Caitlin Clark makes WNBA history AGAIN as Indiana Fever star strengthens Rookie of the Year claims against rival Angel Reese
ver star Caitlin Clark has accomplished something no rookie has ever done before in the history of the league.
Clark dropped 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists in an 83-78 victory over the New York Liberty.
That marked the first time in the WNBA's history that a rookie has recorded a triple-double.
The No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft was one rebound shy of a triple-double two games ago in an 88-82 road victory over the Phoenix Mercury.
Clark had 11 points in the first quarter, making 3 of 4 from 3-point range. She topped double figures in assists in the third quarter and passed the 10-rebound mark in the fourth
Clark had a three-point play and Kelsey Mitchell followed with a 3-pointer to tie the game at 75 with 2:31 to go.
Clark hit a 3-pointer and followed with a layup to spark Indiana to an 8-0 run to begin the game. She turned a steal into a 3-pointer to give the Fever their biggest lead at 24-12 with 3:04 left in the quarter.
Clark's turnaround fadeaway jumper gave the Fever a 31-20 lead with 7:48 left in the second quarter. Jones scored the final five points in a 12-0 run from there and the Liberty took their first lead.

Diana Taurasi 'reality is coming' quotes about Caitlin Clark resurface after USA Olympic gold medal winner loses AGAIN to the WNBA rookie
What was initially believed to be sage advice from one of the greatest to ever play the game of women's basketball has taken on a tinge of redemption for Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.
It all centers around comments made by Diana Taurasi earlier this year, where she cautioned fans to not push high expectations onto rookies because of the adjustments they'd have to make at the pro level after playing in college for so long.
'Reality is coming, there's levels to this thing,' she told Scott Van Pelt on SportsCenter, when asked about rookies - including Clark - jumping to the pros.
'And that's just life, we all went through it... You look superhuman playing against some 18-year-olds but you're going to come [play] with some grown women that have been playing professional basketball for a long time,' Taurasi added.
'Not saying it's not gonna translate, because when you're great at what you do, you're just gonna get better,' she continued. 'But there is gonna be a transition period, where you're gonna have to give yourself some grace as a rookie.'
Comments Diana Taurasi made about transitions to the WNBA have come back after Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever defeated the Phoenix Mercury on Friday evening
Some believe Taurasi's initial comments were intended as a slight against Clark
Many took that as some form of a slight against Clark, who has gone on to transition well in her rookie season after some period of adjustment to start her Indiana Fever career.
The latest chapter of that adjustment came on Friday night - where Clark and the Fever beat Taurasi's Phoenix Mercury for the third time this year in a season sweep.
Phoenix put up an inspired comeback, but just couldn't break their deficit to the Fever as they lost 98-89.
Clark was a major reason for that - dropping 29 points and ten assists on an 8-of-16 shooting line, including going 4-11 from 3-point range.
It was a strong performance for a Fever team - which should have been expected, considering they were coming back from a lengthy break as they took on a Mercury team who had three Olympians on their roster and had just played the night before.
Still, many were quick to throw the comments back at Taurasi (16 points, four rebounds, three assists) after the Mercury loss.
It was led by Barstool Sports' main account, which wrote, 'Diana Taurasi hasn't beaten Caitlin Clark yet this year with Team USA [in the All-Star Game] or the Phoenix Mercury. Reality is tough.'
' how's that reality treating you?,' wrote one person.
Another wrote, 'I love how poorly this has aged for DT (no age pun intended).'
But many more took a more level approach to Taurasi's comments - saying that she was right, while praising Clark for her transition to becoming a quality pro player for her age.
'I'll be honest. I did not see a season sweep in the cards. Didn't think DT was off base with what she said. Maybe Clark is more gifted than we all first thought,' wrote one quote tweet.
'In general, this is normally a factual statement. There are “levels”, and most of the time leveling up means a difficult transition period. But Caitlin Clark is just different. Can’t fault Taurasi for what she said, it would be accurate 99% of the time. Caitlin Clark is just different,' said another.
Another wrote, 'She (Taurasi) wasn't wrong And we saw [what] happened Just that [Clark] transition period was like a flash. So fast!!'

Caitlin Clark’s Haters Owe Her A Huge Apology After Seeing This Mind-Blowing NBA Finals vs. WNBA Stat
As if the drop in viewership and rating for Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals was not enough, the attendance also fell short compared to the one at Caitlin Clark’s game the following day.
CP recently shared a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) comparing the number of attendees at the first game between the NBA finalists Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics to the WNBA game between the Indiana Fever and the Washington Mystics.
Looking at the Celtics’ history, one can imagine the massive fan following the franchise has gained over the years. On the other hand, there is Mavs star Luka Doncic, whose fanbase is also increasing. However, they attracted only 19,156 fans at the TD Garden, whereas 20,333 fans turned up at the Capital One Arena to get a glimpse of the Fever rookie, which shows the fan base Clark has built and the impact she has on them.
For the past 17 years, no such number of attendants has been recorded in a WNBA game. With her skills and mindset, Clark keeps impressing everyone.

Fans are all saying the same thing as NBA 2K25 releases first look at Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese in video game
Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese will see their stars continue to rise next month when the latest NBA 2K5 video game is released.
The WNBA stars are going to feature in the game, released in early September, and the creators ramped up the anticipation by revealing a first look at the duo in the gaming world.
But fans were more impressed by Reese's resemblance than Clark's as the reactions swept across social media on Wednesday.
'Angel looks good but they got CC looking like a potato,' one fan said in the responses.
Another wrote in agreement: 'They did Caitlin so dirty.'
A different follower said: 'That's the best in game pic you came up with? Not very good.'
The responses were far more positive about Reese - with most fans replying to say how impressed they were with the resemblance to the Chicago Sky player in real life.
'This is actually really good,' said one fan, as another wrote: 'This is spot on, not going to lie.'
The WNBA resumes on Thursday after a four-week hiatus to coincide with the Olympics.
Reese and the Sky kick the season off again in Chicago against Phoenix Mercury, with Clark and Indiana Fever playing Mercury the next day.
Both Clark and Reese are locked in a battle to be named Rookie of the Year. Fever are seventh in the standings on 11-15 and Sky are a place behind on 10-14.
The two rookies have been credited with driving a surge of interest in the women's game.
They were rivals at college with Clark at Iowa and Reese at LSU and in this year's Draft in New York, Clark was picked first and Reese seventh.
They played together, however, in the recent All-Star game before the season took a break.
Reese and Clark will return to being on opposing teams in August 30 in Chicago, when Sky host the Fever.

Caitlin Clark may have not taken part in the 2024 Olympics. She did, however, go galavanting across the United States, gracing multiple high-profile events to remind the masses of just what they were missing while the WNBA was on hiatus.

The Fever guard has been bombarded with basketball responsibilities since last fall, first leading Iowa to a national championship appearance, then setting her sights on the W and her new franchise, the Indiana Fever.

With her presence not requested in Paris, Clark set sail for a host of prominent cities stateside, including New York City. She also chummed it up with various luminaries, from country music star Jordan Davis to Yankees supernova Aaron Judge. Oh, and did we mention there were goats?

Here's what you need to know about Clark's whereabouts throughout the Olympic break.

Caitlin Clark's Olympic break
Clark did a little bit of everything during her time out of the spotlight, lending her presence to a series of fun festivities.

She started things off with a flourish, appearing at Davis' concert in Indianapolis alongside teammate Lexie Hull on July 31. The duo made quite the impression on their hometown crowd, even showing off their vocal chops as Davis crooned his signature tune, "Buy Dirt."
