‘Look at my husband’s lovely cagoule!’ – should I become a hype partner like Travis Kelce?
From Taylor Swift to Zendaya, a host of famous women have boyfriends who are unashamedly joyful in cheerleading their partner’s success. Maybe I could learn a thing or two …
Should we hype our partners? Elle magazine’s celebration of the “hype boyfriend” has me wondering. These cheerleaders for their other halves are a wholesome flipside to “wife guys” (performatively uxorious men showing off their fidelity and general greatness). Travis Kelce is one, for his proud support for Taylor Swift; so is the actor Barry Keoghan, for the pop star and actor Sabrina Carpenter. Tom Holland, “the original hype boyfriend”, is singled out for several years’ worth of celebrating Zendaya’s ascent to global superstardom, accompanying her to events and posting a picture of her Met Gala outfit “captioned with love-heart-eye emojis”, says Elle. “A masterclass in hype from afar.”
I agree there is something “unashamedly joyful” about men not merely at ease with, but delighted by, their partners’ accomplishments. Having read the poet Maggie Smith on how her husband’s discomfort with her success contributed to their marriage ending, hype boyfriends are a heartening corrective.
The American writer Kathryn Jezer-Morton recently considered the hype co-parent, too, explaining how she realised her husband “has made it a habit to build me up in my children’s esteem”. Jezer-Morton felt ambivalent at first about “playing into a vaguely patriarchal form of mother-worship”, but realised it works: her kids started to treat her more considerately. Reciprocating for her male co-parent felt odd initially – “a loaded act in this era where domestic equality is contested on a granular daily basis” – but she wrote: “I wish I’d done it sooner.”
Bigging up the person you bicker with about bins doesn’t come naturally to many of us, I think. We are proud of our partners, but it’s not the British way to gush about them to others and even less to their faces; it feels over the top – a bit fake, even. Do we need to get over that? Because if I have learned one thing in all my years of getting relationships horribly wrong, it’s that people can’t read your mind. Sometimes, it’s transformative to say the stuff that feels bleeding obvious. I am planning to introduce a touch of spousal hype into my life (but, sorry, no love-heart-eye emoji for his orange cagoule)

Brittany and Patrick Mahomes' secret date with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce amid baby news
It's been a busy few weeks for Brittany and Patrick Mahomes. Not only have the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and his wife been on an extended vacation in Europe, but they also announced they're expecting their third child.
Rather than rest ahead of the arrival of their baby, the Mahomes have been super busy, visiting Portugal and Switzerland, Spain and The Netherlands – as well as a period spent in London, attending Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, country star Morgan Wallen's Hyde Park show and watching the tennis at Wimbledon.
Patrick and Brittany, who announced Brittany's pregnancy this week, also made time for a double date with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
Travis and Patrick are teammates on the Kansas City Chiefs, and Brittany and Taylor have grown close through their partners, with pregnant Brittany sharing photos of her and the musician cosying up.

Brittany buried the photos in a carousel of photos from her and Patrick's time in London, captioning the collection: "London & Amsterdam, a time was had."

While it's unclear where they went on their triple date, the six of them appeared to have a brilliant time, with Taylor donning a long summer dress for the occasion, while Travis, Patrick and Brittany went for more lowkey outfits, comprising of coordinating loose-fitting shirts and trousers.
Brittany and Taylor's friendship
Brittany has fast become a member of Taylor's girl squad since they met in September 2023.
The mother-of-two joined Taylor, Sophie Turner, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds for dinner in New York City, and she and 34-year-old Taylor have since spent a lot of time together at Chiefs games and on double dates with their men.

Travis Kelce spotted wearing garda Public Order Unit cap with girlfriend Taylor Swift
It’s not the first time he has been spotted wearing a souvenir from his trip to Ireland
Travis Kelce has been spotted wearing a garda cap in a snap with his girlfriend Taylor Swift.
The American football star sported the branded cap which matches that of those worn by An Garda Síochána’s Public Order Unit.
The image shows the 34-year-old posing with his arms around Taylor as they pose with his teammates, Patrick Mahomes and Summit Hogue as well as their significant others while on a night out in Amsterdam.
Travis and his pals joined Taylor in Amsterdam for the Netherlands leg of the Eras Tour which took place from July 4 to July 6.
Prior to that, he arrived in Dublin for the final night of the Irish leg of the tour, making his way to the VIP tent mid-way through Taylor’s set on night 3.
He landed in Ireland and was escorted straight to the Aviva Stadium to catch the rest of his girlfriend’s performance.
Stevie Nicks and Julia Roberts were also in attendance at the third Dublin concert.
Afterwards, Stevie Nicks joined the couple, as well as Eras tour opening band Paramore, and the rest of the touring crew in speakeasy bar The Hacienda.
It’s not the first time he has been spotted wearing a souvenir from his trip to Ireland.
While recording his podcast New Heights with his brother, fellow American footballer, Jason Kelce, sported an Irish rugby jersey.
“I believe it is the Irish national team. It might be rugby or is it football?” he remarked.
Further discussing his trip to the Emerald Isle he said he enjoyed a pint of Guinness, which he likened to a “beer milkshake”.
"Ireland was fun. It was a good time,” he said, adding that he had a “blast” at The Hacienda.
“We played some snooker… it was fun. Leave it at that. It was an absolute blast. Got to hang out in a pub, have some Guinness on draft over there basically just beer milkshakes, delicious.
"And I had my new favourite dessert shot, which is a Baby Guinness. I call it a dessert shot because it was literally, I think Baileys, Guinness and like maybe a whiskey in there… It’s like a little shooter… it’s like ‘’hmmm that’s delicious’.”

Taylor Swift's friend Gracie Abrams announces UK and European leg for her tour The Secret of Us after opening on the Eras Tour
Gracie Abrams has announced on Monday that she is set to hit the road around the UK and Europe for her The Secret Of Us tour.
The Grammy-nominated singer, 24, who is good friends with Taylor Swift, is set to take to the stage in an 18-date run.
She will be kicking off her shows in Madrid on February 9 before heading to other European cities including Lisbon, Amsterdam, Berlin and Hamburg.
The star, who recently opened the Eras Tour, will then perform in the UK cities; Nottingham, London, Manchester, Cardiff and Dublin before wrapping in Glasgow.
Fans who pre-ordered the new album on her official store will get the chance to buy tickets during a presale that begins July 17 at 10am. General ticket sale will later be released July 19 at 10am.
The European dates follow Gracie's sold-out North American dates, which will kick off on September 5 in Portland, OR.
Due to high demand for her North American leg, Gracie added five extra dates to her tour in New York City and Los Angeles.
Following her North American dates of The Secret of Us Tour, Gracie will rejoin Taylor on the Eras Tour as direct support for the second North American leg.
Last year, Gracie joined Taylor for over 30 shows across the U.S. before performing a limited run of sold-out acoustic shows with Aaron Dessner in NYC, Nashville and LA.
Gracie, who has been friends with the Cruel Summer songstress since 2022, recently made a surprise appearance on the Eras Tour to perform the pairs song 'us' at Wembley Stadium.
The Close To You singer has also previously supported Olivia Rodrigo on tour in 2022.
Earlier this year, Gracie shared a video of Taylor putting out a blaze with a fire extinguisher in her $50million New York City apartment.
The You Belong With Me star was seen looking shocked as she showered her lavish kitchen in extinguisher fumes after a candle fell over - starting a small fire.
Taylor - clad in a white dress - was seen picking up the extinguisher as the baffled star said: 'What do I do about this!' I think we're gonna die!'
The Sparks Fly hitmaker was filmed fumbling with the extinguisher as she said: 'I don't know, b***h.'
She then sprayed the extinguisher which left her in disbelief as the entire room was coated in white fumes - leaving her cats shocked.

Taylor's chic outfit clocked in at over $1,900 (not including shoes or jewelry). Meanwhile Brittany went all out with an eye-watering $12,000 look.
The Bad Blood singer showed off her toned arms in a stylish blue dress from Vivienne Westwood, retailing for $1,010. She teamed the outfit with a heart-shaped leather purse from the designer for $930.
Meanwhile expectant mother Brittany stayed comfortable in a pair of black $7,800 Prada pajamas. Like Taylor, she matched her purse to her outfit, wearing a $4,200 Prada sequined handbag.
Taylor's boyfriend Travis looked handsome in a tan button up shirt and matching pants, which he paired with white sneakers.

Since then, the Chiefs won their third Super Bowl in the last five years, all while Brittany and Taylor cheered on from some of the priciest seats in sports. The precise locations of Brittany's Instagram pictures aren't obvious from the scenery, but other shots in the post show Brittany with her children Sterling and Bronze in London.
The date of the photos also remains a mystery as Kelce spent the weekend in a celebrity golf tournament near Lake Tahoe.

After Amsterdam, Taylor then moves on to Zurich and Milan, before venturing into Germany in the middle of July.
Meanwhile Patrick and Brittany are busy with family, after she recently revealed that they are expecting another child.
In a heartwarming video on Instagram, Brittany revealed she is pregnant again after showing off her baby scans alongside Patrick and their two children; daughter Sterling Skye, three, and son Patrick 'Bronze' Lavon Mahomes III, one.

Brittany, who married the Chiefs quarterback in 2022 after a decade together, gave birth to their second child less than two years ago.

Bills OC Joe Brady hoping for 'little bit of everything' from Curtis Samuel: 'His versatility will be an asset'
A multi-tooled dual threat able to line up at a plethora of spots, wide receiver Curtis Samuel’s stock was never higher than after the 2020 season.
Samuel posted 1,051 scrimmage yards with the Carolina Panthers and was bound for free agency, where he found a lucrative new deal with Washington. However, he has yet to rediscover his 2020 form, but there's reason to believe he could as a member of the Buffalo Bills.
Samuel's finest season thus far came in his only year with Joe Brady as his offensive coordinator.
Year 2 is on the way.
"So excited to get Curtis back," Brady said recently on the Centered On Buffalo Podcast with Eric Wood. "You know, I only had him for one year. He kind of just did this (points up) the whole year."
In that one year, Samuel was fed that ball like no other season in his seven NFL campaigns. His 77 receptions, 851 receiving yards, 41 carries and 200 rushing yards still stand as tops in his career.
"Hopefully, a little bit of everything," Brady said of what fans can expect to see from Samuel.

It's official: Brittany Mahomes, Patrick Mahomes, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are the new romantics.
Case in point: The Kansas City Chiefs squad took an adorable photo to commemorate a recent double date they went on while in Amsterdam for the "Cruel Summer" singer's Eras Tour earlier this month.
In one photo from their enchanted night out, Taylor rocked a Vivienne Westwood dress and heart-shaped bag with tan heels while she pulled Brittany—clad in a chic black pajama set—close to her. Behind them, Travis smiled for the cameras while wearing a tan matching pants and shirt set. Patrick, opting to keep in casual in a brown sweater, draped an arm around his NFL teammate's shoulder.
And that wasn't the only moment from the outing that was captured. Brittany also shared another girls-only snap, in which Taylor planted a kiss on the former soccer player's head while she flashed a wide grin.
Alongside the cozy shots, Brittany captioned her July 15 Instagram post, "London & Amsterdam, a time was had."
Brittany documented other parts of her Amsterdam trip with Patrick as well. She previously shared videos of them dancing the night away at Taylor's July 6 concert in the European city alongside Travis.

Taylor Swift Thanks Milan for Having Her ‘Favorite Crowds Ever’ After Eras Tour Shows
The latest Eras Tour shows marked a new highlight for Taylor Swift. Following her two concerts in Milan, the 34-year-old pop star took to Instagram Monday (July 15) to gush about the crowds at San Siro Stadium — which she went as far as calling some of her career favorites.
“WOW. MILAN,” Swift began her post. “Those were truly 2 of my favorite crowds ever. The passion and generosity you showed us… it was a dream come true to perform for you.”
The “Anti-Hero” singer also shared a carousel of photos from her back-to-back performances in Italy, including one snap of a brand new Fearless era dress that she debuted at her first Milan show Saturday (July 13). “Grazi mille!!” she added. “We’ll be back!! 🇮🇹 🫶”
Swift’s tenure in the city was full of memorable moments, with the acoustic sections including mashups of “The 1″ and “Wonderland,” “I Almost Do” and “The Moment I Knew,” “Mr. Perfectly Fine” and “Red” as well as “Getaway Car” with “Out of the Woods.” The shows had a couple hilarious blips, though, with the 14-time Grammy winner at one point swallowing a bug on stage.
“I knew it would happen, ’cause there’s so many bugs here tonight,” she told the laughing crowd. “I just need to cough a little bit.”
At another point, Swift’s iconic flower-painted piano suffered a malfunction that necessitated a crew member joining her on the stage to investigate its interior. “You know what, we finally broke it,” she joked. “We have finally broken this thing.”
Luckily, she and her helper were able to get the keyboard back into playing condition. “I did it!” she squealed with a grin after successfully closing its top.
Swift is next slated to perform three consecutive shows in Gelsenkirchen, Germany July 17-20, after which she’ll travel through Hamburg and Munich. Once the European leg of her Eras trek is over, she’ll return to the U.S. and Canada for one final victory lap in November and December.

Taylor Swift Fans Melt at the 'Happiness on Her Face' in Response to Fan Project at Eras Tour
The singer appeared amazed by the coordinated fan project on display at a show in Milan.
Taylor Swift’s fans were touched to see the pop superstar’s emotional reaction to a sweet project that concertgoers pulled off during one of her recent Eras Tour shows in Milan, Italy.
Swift, 34, was onstage during her first of two consecutive nights at Milan’s San Siro Stadium on Saturday, July 13, when fans unveiled their surprise for her. As she performed “Enchanted” during the Speak Now section of her performance, fan-captured footage showed her begin to look around as dozens of fans near the stage began holding up signs.
In one clip shared by a fan named Antonio on TikTok, the project’s wide spread could be seen as the person filming looked down on the stage from afar as fans all over began holding up signs. Another clip shared by a Swiftie on Instagram captured what they described as the “happiness on her face” as the “Cruel Summer” songstress absorbed the message replicated on each sign.
As the TikToker explained, the signs all read, “We are enchanted to meet you after 13 years,” a gesture referencing the 13 years that passed between Swift’s last tour stop in Milan and her Saturday show.
In close-up footage of Swift’s reaction, the “Fortnight” songstress could be seen mouthing, “Oh my god. They’re everywhere,” as she looked around and took in the sheer number of coordinated fan signs.
When she finished her performance of the song, Swift beamed at the crowd and mouthed, “Thank you.”
“The thank you at the end brought tears to my eyes😭,” a TikToker wrote in a comment added to one video as another agreed, writing, “That 'Thank you' at the end - streaming 😭😭.”
“Milan really pulled it out the bag last night!❤️With this, the chant and also the crowd were SO loud! ❤️❤️❤️well done,” one TikToker praised.
“Great job gave me goosebumps watching her reaction,” another TikToker applauded.
“I about died when she mouthed ‘ they're everywhere’. Milan crowd, YOU WON!!” one fan declared.
Another fan who agreed about the Milan crowd’s success wrote, “um Milan wins for the arguments everyone has about what concert was best.” They added that it had been a “magical night” for Swift and her fans alike, writing, “that is the sweetest thing I've ever seen a fan base do.”
