It's safe to say that the WNBA's Olympic break is a welcome sight for Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark.
Over the past nine months, Clark has played an incredible amount of basketball with very little time for a breather. The 22-year-old guard rolled straight from her record-setting senior season at Iowa into her first WNBA season.
After doing her part in Team WNBA's win over Team USA in the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game, she'll have nearly four weeks to rest and recover before WNBA action resumes.
"I honestly can't wait to not touch a basketball for a while," Clark, who dished out 10 assists in the All-Star Game, joked after the contest.
In the immediate aftermath of her exclusion from the U.S. Olympic team, she felt "no disappointment" after the snub. And while she won't go to Paris, the four-week break stretched ahead of her promises its own reward.
Clark will get a well-deserved break from what's best described as a busy year of playing basketball.
Things have essentially been nonstop for Clark since Oct. 15, the date Iowa opened the 2023-24 season with a historic exhibition game. Eight days after Clark's senior season ended on April 7, she was drafted first overall by the Fever. Training camp opened 13 days after the draft.
While USA Basketball's decision to pass on Clark has been viewed as a controversial one, she now has an opportunity to take full advantage of the break. Instead of heading to Europe to begin the Olympic competition in a week, Clark won't play another meaningful game until Aug. 16.
Clark expressed her excitement for "rest and relaxation" again in a social media post after the All-Star Game.

Indiana Fever mocks Angel Reese after overwhelming defeat and shows support for Caitlin Clark

After a month-long hiatus due to the Olympic Games, the WNBA resumed its historic season yesterday with three games. The closest matchup saw the Minnesota Lynx (18-8) secure an 11-point victory over the struggling Washington Mystics (6-20). The other two games were blowouts, with the league-leading New York Liberty (22-4) cruising to a win over the Los Angeles Sparks (6-19) by more than 30 points, and the Phoenix Mercury (14-12), led by Olympic medalist Brittney Griner, defeating the Chicago Sky (10-15) and rookie Angel Reese by 20 points.

Fever's Social Media Team Throws Shade
Although the Indiana Fever didn't play yesterday, their social media team took the opportunity to mock Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark's competition for Rookie of the Year. Reese, along with the entire Sky team, had a rough game despite notching her usual triple-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. In the game against Phoenix Mercury, Reese struggled with her shooting, finishing 4-14 (28.57%) from the field. The official Fever account posted a tweet with the caption, "Caitlin Clark's three-point game? Elite. Our Rookie of the Year can put on a show."

The timing was impeccable, as Reese's Sky team was down by over 20 points at that moment. Fans quickly noticed the jab, commenting with responses like "admin.. CHILLLL" and "mao this new admin bro perfect timing I swear," clearly recognizing the post as a show of support for Clark. Tonight, the Fever will face the same Phoenix Mercury team that handed Reese and the Sky their blowout defeat. It will be interesting to see if the Sky's social media team responds in kind if Mercury manage a win, or if the Fever doubles down on their support for Clark if they come out victorious. The game will test whether the Fever's lack of recent play or Phoenix's back-to-back games with three Olympic medalists, who have not rested, will be the deciding factor.

Sabrina Ionescu hits viral Yusuf Dikec pose after Breanna Stewart's 3 on Liberty's WNBA return

New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu had a new celebration after her teammate, Breanna Stewart, hit a 3-pointer on their return to the WNBA stage after clinching gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Ionescu struck Turkish Olympic silver-medalist shooter Yusuf Dikec's iconic pose after Stewart hit from deep during the Liberty's matchup against the LA Sparks on Thursday.

Dikec's pose went viral after he secured the silver medal in the 10-meter air pistol team event of the Paris Games without the use of special gear while his opponents used special lenses and ear protectors. With one hand in his pants pocket, Dikec catapulted himself into internet fandom by making the feat of clinching an Olympic silver look easy.

Breanna Stewart had a commendable return to the WNBA stage as she led the Liberty to a 103-68 blowout win over the Sparks to kickstart the second half of their 2024 WNBA season. She recorded 27 points, four rebounds and two assists in the game, while Sabrina Ionescu added 18 points, four rebounds, six assists and one steal.

Angel Reese turns down question about unique personal achievement after Sky loss: "Don’t want to hear about no record"
Chicago Sky star Angel Reese was not bothered about a unique personal achievement that she secured during the Sky's 20-point loss against the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday. Visibly frustrated by the loss, Reese turned down a question highlighting her achievement during the postgame interview.
“I don’t want to hear about no record, man," Reese said.
Thursday's game concluded with the Chicago Sky suffering an 85-65 loss at home against the Phoenix Mercury to tipoff the second half of their 2024 WNBA season. Angel Reese led the Sky's losing effort with a double-double performance of 11 points, 15 rebounds, one assist, two steals and a block while shooting 28.6% from the field.
Eight of Reese's 15 rebounds in the game were on the offensive side, which secured her the record for most offensive rebounds in a single season in Sky franchise history. With her sixth offensive rebound in the game, she overtook Sylvia Fowles, who previously held the record at 117.
Angel Reese had also acquired various individual accolades in the first half of her rookie season. Most notably, the star rookie broke the WNBA record for most consecutive double-doubles, which was previously held by Candace Parker at 12. Reese extended the streak to 15 double-doubles before it snapped.

The seventh overall pick of the 2024 WNBA draft was also named the Player of the Month for June and is also in a tight head-to-head running for Rookie of the Year honors alongside Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark. Meanwhile, despite her efforts, the Chicago Sky are currently placed eighth in the league standings with a 10-15 record.

Christie Sides discusses Caitlin Clark's turnover problem
Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark has showcased her exceptional potential in the first half of her debut WNBA season.

Fever head coach Christie Sides praised the young star ahead of the 2024 season restart, highlighting Clark's outstanding court vision and precise passing, which have helped generate open shots for her teammates.

In a recent interview on the "Locked on Women's Basketball" podcast, Sides was asked about Clark's turnovers and how the 22-year-old can reduce her mistakes.

Sides attributed Clark's turnovers to her ongoing adjustment to her new teammates and the lack of familiarity with their playing tendencies.
"It's the reps with her new teammates," Sides noted on the Locked on Women's Basketball podcast.

"Understanding where Aliyah (Boston) is gonna roll to or where Lyss (NaLyssa Smith) is gonna pop to, and also the scheming part of it, where the defense is coming from and making those reads.

"She is making those reads now against the best players in the world."
