Metaverse Artist Talk by Claudia Hart
Artist Info:
Claudia Hart emerged as part of a generation of 90s intermedia artists examining issues of identity and representation. Since the late 90s when she began working with 3D animation, Hart embraced these same concepts, but now focusing on the impact of computing and simulations technologies. She was an early adopter of virtual imaging, using 3D animation to make media installations and projections, and later as they were invented, other forms of VR, AR and objects produced by computer-driven production machines. At the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she is a Professor, she developed a pedagogic program based on her practice - Experimental 3D - the first dedicated solely to teaching simulations technologies in an art-school context.
Hart’s works are widely exhibited and collected by galleries and museums including the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Metropolitan Museum. Her work has been shown at the New Museum, produced at the Eyebeam Center for Art + Technology, where she was an honorary fellow in 2013-14, at Pioneer Works, NY, where she a technology resident in 2018, and at the Center for New Music and Audio Technology, UC California, Berkeley where she is currently a Fellow.

Come to the VR WSPark tomorrow for the Media Artist Claudia Hart’s Metaverse Artist Talk: “How to Build a Metaverse: A Doll’s Story” this Saturday, 4/30 from 2 - 3pm EST! Please join us with the Youtube Live link: https://youtu.be/AwCevZoerSE
The one-hour long artist talk will go in-depth about Claudia’s work “The doll”. The event is hosted by Snow Yunxue Fu - artist and co-hosted by the Dslcollection. Inspired by the visionary architects of the 18th Century, New York media artist Claudia Hart proposes her Dolls world as an imaginary non-site. The Dolls immersive world was culled by Hart from an early 2015 work, a projection-mapped media ballet for live dancers
Event Description:
Inspired by the philosophical idea of the “eternal return” – the notion that history endlessly renews itself through a process of decadence, decay and rebirth. Hart has been working with this theme - about the basic process of history - for the past twenty years, though her ideas seem particularly relevant at the current moment, as the world watches with horror while the Covid-19 pandemic, the climate crises, wars and the rise of autocracies seem to implode democracy. In this talk, Hart traces her Dolls world as it it has been reframed over the years through emerging virtual realities, from her first dancers through multi channel projections, augmented realities, virtual realities, printed sculptures and finally in 2022, to the Metaverse as a rental property to be sold as real-estate in the form of an NFT. This is a story of renewal, as The Dolls rides again (and again).
* The video is from Claudia Hart’s metaverse project
