Dr. Dre is set to headline this weekend’s Super Bowl so we thought it was an appropriate time to share an experience our very own Greg Geitzenauer had with the music icon. At Track Record studios in North Hollywood in the early-mid 90’s, Greg recalls being the only staff engineer who liked hip-hop, so when Dre booked the studio to work on instrumental and augmented mixes of songs from his recently released “The Chronic” for the upcoming tour, the studio manager put him on the session.

The sessions happened simultaneously with the release of the “Nuthin’ But A ‘G’ Thang” single which triggered a stream of calls to the studio looking to get interviews with Dre and his protege, Snoop Dogg. Greg was even present when an early version of “Gin & Juice” popped into being. And ask Greg about his trip to Toys R Us with Snoop sometime.

Dr. Dre’s step brother, Warren G, was a frequent attendee of the sessions and asked Greg if he would engineer a demo track that led Greg to working on the album “Regulate… G Funk Era.” That session was the beginning of Greg’s 5 year relationship with Warren as an artist and producer.
