Happy , friends! 🐋Calling a blue whale “big” is an understatement. They are positively massive. An adult female can grow to 100 feet long—about the length of a Boeing 737. Blue whales can weigh up to 200 tons (400,000 pounds)! That’s 30 times heavier than an African elephant. In fact, just their tongue can weigh as much as an elephant. Blue whales aren’t just the biggest animals alive in the ocean. They’re not just the biggest animals alive in the world. They are the biggest animals that have ever lived (that we know of, at least). Even the largest dinosaur can’t compare—the Argentinosaurus clocked in at about 220,000 pounds.

Ghost nets aren’t supernatural, but they are legitimately scary. A ghost net is a fishing net that’s been lost or abandoned in the ocean.

Ghost nets make up at least 46 percent of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Those abandoned fishing lines and nets never go away—they just become smaller pieces of plastic. Many people don't understand the sheer immensity of the industrial fishing nets. 😱

But purse seine fishing is one of the many destructive and unsustainable commercial fishing methods that's rapidly emptying the ocean of marine wildlife...to put fish on our plate.

So what can YOU do about it? 🤔

The easiest action is to simply stop eating fish. Many people in the world can't make that choice, they need fish to survive. But for the rest of us, it's a "luxury" the ocean can no longer afford.

And, by 2050, there could be more plastic than fish in the ocean.
