Did you know that today, October 2, is the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's birth? And one year ago today was the grand opening of the Eternal Gandhi Museum Houston?

It's true and we’re honored to share that Solid Light has received a Silver Telly Award for the one-of-a-kind museum's orientation film! “From our very first collaboration with the Eternal Gandhi Museum, we knew the journey we were about to embark on was something very special,” says Solid Light Owner and CEO, Cynthia Torp.

This immersive film brings Gandhi’s legacy of peace and nonviolence to life and we couldn’t be prouder of our team and our collaboration with the museum.

Every part of The Dot Experience must be tested and prototyped, even the parts that might seem boring at first glance! In this photo, the screws embedded in the black board are being tested for durability based on the way they've been affixed. It's important that exhibits are durable so many visitors can enjoy them for years to come!

Follow this page for more updates as we continue to test, prototype, and create The Dot Experience!

Solid Light could not design and build the world's most accessible museum alongside client American Printing House for the Blind without the input and lived experiences offered by community members like Austin. Thank you for your guidance, trust, and support!

"The prototyping process, for me, has been a lot of fun. I have never been a part of planning a museum before, so that was something cool. Learning what it takes to create a museum was eye-opening. We discussed different types of flooring and the types of navigational systems that should be offered. I also loved learning about Helen Keller beyond her experiences with Anne Sullivan. To me, prototyping the exhibits helps make The Dot Experience accessible and inclusive for everyone."

"Being a part of the prototype testing team for The Dot Experience has been very rewarding! I have been so happy to provide input as American Printing House for the Blind and Solid Light work toward creating this unique and first of its kind museum gallery project! It promises to set a high standard of excellence in welcoming people of all disabilities and ages to experience hands-on education...This means so much to me personally as someone who became blind four years ago and is learning to live successfully as a blind person myself."

Mary Rickert is part of the inclusive prototyping team providing feedback to Solid Light about various aspects and features of The Dot Experience to ensure accessibility and inclusivity. In this photo, Mary is sitting in front of an AFB Foundation Writer as she speaks to a Solid Light team member.

On Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Solid Light is providing a look behind-the-scenes as we work towards creating more inclusive experiences. In partnership with client American Printing House for the Blind and invaluable insights from our community-based Inclusive Prototyping Focus Group (IFPG), together we are setting new standards in experience design with The Dot Experience. Our recent prototyping session evaluated the "Orientation Station", an essential navigational hub designed to ensure all visitors can orient themselves and learn how to fully engage with the museum the moment they walk in the door.

Are you at and interested in hearing more about our work at The Dot Experience? Join us as speakers from Solid Light and APH talk all things IPFG, designing, and building the world's most accessible museum during our session, "Beyond the Basics: An Inclusive Design Case Study" at 2:00pm on Friday, May 17.
