100 Black Men recently cited financial reasons and returned Capitol back over to the state's control. Capitol teachers said they were supposed to be paid on Friday, but that money is missing.

HUD has agreed to pay $62 million dollars to settle discrimination claims to about 1300 African American homeowners whose homes were damaged/destroyed by Katrina.

St Tammany Parish, 22nd Judicial District Court Judge censured because he failed to remove himself from friends contentious divorce proceeding, going on vacation with the husband and awarding custody to husband contrary to law. Judge says the whole ordeal cost him his friendship. He's sorry. He learned a lot. He won't do it again.

A 70 year old woman with severe heart pain was seen and sent home by ER doc who concluded (wrongly) that she was suffering from heartburn. U.S. District Judge Eldon Fallon in New Orleans is presiding over more than 10,000 claims by residents blaming damage to their homes on Chinese drywall, which was used in construction throughout Florida and the Gulf Coast. A proposed $55 million settlement of claims in Florida requires his approval. Hopefully, pending cases in Louisiana will soon be settled as well.

In April 2011, the Alexandria VA Medical Center was closed for about 4 hours due to an anthrax scare. Some patients were hurriedly transferred to other facilities with no time to collect their belongings. One patient has filed suit in federal court because the hospital incinerated his most treasured possessions for no reason at all.

Sad news from Shreveport- Jay Greenleaf, an attorney for Anderson Oil & Gas, died on Tuesday. Officials believe he was struck by a bolt of lightning as he played golf at East Ridge Country Club.

Hot Coffee" is a documentary film which seeks to explain America's zeal for tort reform since the verdict in the McDonald's hot coffee case and challenges the viewer to re-examine the widely held notion that frivolous lawsuits and jackpot justice have taken over the courts. The film makes its debut on Monday, June 27th at 9 p.m., only on HBO.

A Jefferson Parish jury awarded a total of $361,645 to a plaintiff who waited six months to treat a pre-existing cervical disc injury which was aggravated in a minor collision. A civilian worker suffered permanent head/neck injuries from an unprovoked punch in the face. His attacker (who worked for another company) argued he reached to touch his shoulder in a playful manner and slipped. By trial, plaintiff agreed it was an accident and moved forward against the attacker's employer only who defended that the attack was intentional. Jefferson Parish verdict for the plaintiff $1,895,442.
