Field Day Family Farm is a sustainable commercial produce operation entering its 24th year. Over a 9-10 month season, the farm runs a C.S.A. serving just under 100 families, 2-3 farmers markets, and supplies 10-15 stores and restaurants in the Louisville, KY area. The farm's 30 acres of ground are a part of one of Louisville's and Jefferson County's oldest farms and could, perhaps, best be described as both urban farm and rural oasis in what is otherwise an increasingly commercial and highly suburban environment. Shares include vegetable, occasional fruit, dried beans, and minimally processed items. CSA shares come weekly with 6 seasonal items inspired mostly by Mother Nature and partly by farmer (and sometime restauranteur), Ivor Chodkowski for optimal seasonal preparations. Ivor's (mostly) weekly emails, describe seasonal items and suggests tips and techniques and occasional recipes. Boxes are more full by volume (think greens) in spring and fall and more full by weight (think tomatoes) in summer. Many, if not all, of the same specialty items the farm delivers to Louisville area restaurants, come in the farm's CSA boxes. Field Day Family Farm has three season lengths, including 34, 29, and 24 weeks, at 21.03, 23.10, and 25.65 per week, respectively. Boxes begin in May and end in November and December. Pickups are on Tuesdays, 5-8 pm in Crescent Hill and the Highlands, and at the farm 4:30 pm until the next morning. As needed for distribution of production and harvest, they occasionally offer Friday farm or Saturday market pick up. The farm has a long-term and ongoing relationship with The Food Literacy Project which the farm hosts and whose mission is ""youth transforming their communities through food, farming and the land."" They believe the transformative mission of the FLP is a natural fit for the farm whose efforts in agriculture are wide ranging and in support of equitable development of the local food economy more generally.
