Since it appears that more folks than our inner circle are Liking this page, thought we'd provide a bit of context.
The Eight Six Five is a new project, mainly a website, dedicated to showcasing the positive pockets of Knoxville. We'll have a monthly podcast that will be a roundtable discussion on our fair city. We'll be sponsoring different First Friday galleries. In general, we'll be reporting on all things Knoxville. Currently, there are 17 folks that have offered to help out and write. We hope to have a new article every day of the work week (Monday-Friday), covering a multitude of subjects ranging from art to music to concerts to non-profits to transfers to wellness to DIY'ers to pets to community awareness to etc to etc to etc. Also aim to have at least one video feature month. The goal of the site is to marry great article content to good photography.
Because of the expense of podcasting equipment and hosting, we're doing a Kickstarter for $2,000 (which, once the Kickstarter is up, you'll be able to see the Reward levels). All money donated will be accounted for on the website, at a special link, where any one who donates can see how we spend every dime. The intention is not to make any money with this site. Anything sold (as in t-shirts) I plan on taking the money from that, picking a local non-profit, and donating the full amount.
The podcasting equipment, hosting and other fees are what's making me reach out to the community. Originally I was going to fund all aspects, but had many a friend saying they'd like to pitch in. Kickstarter is a great format to help bring folks together. Which is, at it's core, what The Eight Six Five is all about.
