Thank you to the people that have reached out to us this evening! The park was hit by 80mph winds and received total damage to 15 structures! Thankfully all the animals are safe and accounted for! The ones that received damage to their enclosures have been moved to a safe secure area while we rebuild their enclosures.

People have asked how that can help. We are accepting donations to rebuild the structures we lost. Approximately $50k in replacement cost.

The park will be closed until August 30th.

Heads up today…. Looks like we’re not quite down with the rain after this morning.

There will be two rounds of rain today. First round will be this morning and will not be severe. The best potential for severe storms will occur late this afternoon and evening. Main threats are large hail, damaging wind gusts, and brief heavy downpours. Remain weather aware if you have outdoor plans this evening.

‼️ THURSDAY — SLIGHT RISK ‼️

⏰ TIMING: Thursday afternoon/evening. As early as 3pm…. As late as 9pm. We have one model that puts storms right over JOPLIN at 6pm.

⚠️ THREATS: Large damaging hail and damaging wind.

🤷🏼‍♀️ UNCERTAINTY: We have an anticipated non-severe round in the morning that is possible and there is a question about it whether or not those storms will work our atmosphere over enough so that we don’t have severe weather at all in the afternoon evening. Lots of questions still. Meteorologist Brett Scott is working to iron out those details and will have more info TONIGHT at 4, 6, &10.

Two years today. ❤️‍🩹 The morning my dad went to the hospital for the very last time, we thought the news would be he was going to be transferred to hospice care. I was walking my dogs, praying about what was the inevitable, and my phone buzzed with a notification from my Google Photos app. It had automatically generated this for me, and I knew what was about to happen instead. A few minutes after I got home from the dog walk, my mom had told me my dad passed. I’ve held onto this for two years now, but thought I’d finally share it. Hug your dads, especially if you have a really, really good one ❤️

HOLY MOLY. I live near the Route 66 drive-in theater… And I’ve never ever seen it like this. It’s backed up all the way almost to the highway. They must be showing something good! (Spoiler alert: They’re showing Twisters 🌪️)

The ball fields in Landreth Park reportedly flooded this morning. Waters have receded already but you can see the debris line and estimate just how much the water rose over the roadway and onto this parking lot. That’s the thing about flash flooding that makes it so dangerous… it rises quickly and then recedes just as quickly.

Morning assessment - Grateful this is our only “damage.” Our home was tornado warned last night just outside Carthage city limits, and the neighbors seem to have some very minor damage, as well.
