We are saddened to hear about the passing of Morrie Maurer this past weekend at age 72. May his memory forever be a blessing.

His daughter Whitney and son-in-law Evan had a baby girl February 21, 2024 and named her Millie after him.

An email from Congregation Beth-El Zedeck said the following: Funeral services will be private. A public memorial service will occur at a later date.
He is survived by his wife, Janis (Jan); children Douglas Maurer, Heather Maurer, and Whitney (Evan) Kleymeyer; and mother, Eleanor Maurer.

This powerful photo was taken by Rachel Posner 92 years ago in Kiel, Germany. Rachel and her husband, Rabbi Akiva Posner, lived across from their city's N**i Party headquarters.

On the back of the photograph, Rachel wrote the following:
"Chanukah 5692
'Death to Judah'
So the flag says
'Judah will live forever'
So the light answers"

The Posner family fled Germany in 1933 and immigrated to pre-state Israel in 1934. Today, the menorah lives at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem — except during Hanukkah, when Rabbi Akiva and Rachel's grandchildren and great-grandchildren bring it home to light.

We had the best time at this Indiana History Center event last year because we also got to see the outstanding Eva Kor exhibit and all of the other temporary and permanent exhibits.
Also the gift shop is open whenever the Indiana History Center is open and there are some nice Hanukkah gifts for sale. J.C.

This weekend, Hooverwood Living Board Member Dr. Louis M. Profeta will be traveling to Israel to be stationed at a major trauma center south of the Lebanon border. Join us in sending him prayers and well wishes for safe travels and a safe return. Thank you, Dr. Profeta, for your selfless service to others! You are such an inspiration.

In typical Dr. Profeta fashion, he asked for nothing for himself on this journey. Instead, he asked for others to help take care of and support the wonderful staff at St. Vincent who are helping cover his shifts back home while he is away.

Hooverwood will be dropping off thank you notes and goodies to the St. Vincent team on Friday, November 3rd. Anyone who would like to join us in showing our appreciation is more than welcome to leave items and notes at the Hooverwood front desk before Friday to be included in the drop.
