MYTH BUSTING? No pain, no gain
This seems to be the war cry in many gyms. Usually espoused by big muscled bros. Pushing yourself and testing your limits is fine. But needing to feel the pain to ensure a decent workout is not needed. Dr. Brian Parr, Associate Professor in the Department of Exercise and Sports Science at the University of South Carolina Aiken, sums it up:
“The idea that exercise should hurt is simply wrong — muscle pain during or following exercise usually suggests an injury.”
This myth has been debunked many times, including by the best in the business MythBusters.
Health experts advise that your workout should be challenging, but you should stop as soon as you experience pain.
