Our owner and primary author, E.M. Storm-Smith, is a mother, wife, attorney, former engineer, and started writing purely for herself. A lifelong love of books drove her passion to create something that was all her own. Several years into the journey of writing books about characters she loved, E.M. decided to take her passions to the world and see what happened. The result was Storm Haus Publishing. Today is the start of black history month in America. As a WT woman, I have had a lot of unlearning to do in my adult life.

The black and POC friends in our lives are not our personal teachers and gurus. And they are especially NOT our therapists to unpack the generational trauma that racism leaves on us all. Some POC in your life may have the inclination and the emotional capacity to have conversations with you about it all, but you gotta do the work by yourself.

So here are some of the books I’ve read that have given me perspective on the experiences and exploitation of black Americans.

Do you have an artist that you just adore? For me it’s 💞 I’ve always been fascinated with his use of color and irregular shapes. His works are amazing.

This is a painting of one of his paintings from the perspective of someone looking at it in a gallery. It hangs in the GRAND BOHEMIAN CHARLOTTE hotel and is absolutely breathtaking.

💖 Hello! I write Epic Fantasy, swashbuckling Historical Romance, and best-selling Pride&Prejudice retellings.

Currently, I’m working on my next epic fantasy series (this one begins in the desert), as well as a brand new Austenesque duology (with plenty of swashbuckling and romance built in).
