The National Weather Service in Bismarck has issued a
* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Wells County in south central North Dakota North central Kidder County in south central North Dakota
* Until 200 PM CDT.
* At 1257 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 6 miles southeast of Hurdsfield, or 27 miles south of Harvey, moving northeast at 25 mph.
HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports that construction flagger, 71-year-old James Wipf, of Fessenden, was injured in a crash near Wing, April 19 at 12:25 p.m.
According to the report, 81-year-old Dale Olson, from Wing, was traveling northbound on Highway 14 about 10 miles north of Wing. He had slowly passed a semi that was unloading materials for an upcoming construction project. Olson didn’t see a flagger’s pick-up that was parked on the northbound shoulder of the road with its amber lights on, slightly on the roadway.
Wipf was standing outside the driver-side door of his pickup, using a sign to slow down vehicles traveling southbound. Olson struck the back of Wipf’s vehicle which then struck Wipf who was pushed into the southbound lane. Olson’s pickup ended up in the east ditch. Wipf was transported to Sanford Hospital in Bismarck with serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.

Body and Vehicle of Missing Lloyd Liken Found in Wells County

A missing 81-year-old’s body was found in rural Wells County yesterday during a farmer’s check of his fields. The body was of Bismarck, ND man Lloyd Liken. He has been missing since November 16, 2023.

Bismarck Police Detectives were notified of Liken being located a little before 3:30pm yesterday. We were notified that a farmer from the area was checking fields in the early afternoon and found Liken’s vehicle, about 30 miles North of Steele. Liken was located near his vehicle deceased.

Liken was missing since November 16, 2023, and was last since driving Southbound on Highway 83 in the early morning hours of November 17, 2023. No foul play is suspected.

A winter storm will move into the region late Saturday. Snow and blowing snow develop Saturday night, continuing through Sunday before gradually diminishing Monday. Travel will be adversely affected by this storm.

⚠️ Heads up southwest and south central North Dakota! ⚠️ An area of rain and freezing rain has developed across this morning, and is moving northeast. A light glaze of ice is possible through the morning, mainly in south central North Dakota where temperatures are below freezing. ACCIDENT REPORT: An injury crash occurred this morning, Feb. 9 on ND Hwy 200 approximately two miles east of the Hwy 52 junction.
According to a press release from the ND Highway Patrol, at 10:15 a.m., Feb. 9, a Chevy Silverado pick-up truck, driven by 44 year old Eric Hvinden of Maddock, rear ended a Kenworth semi-truck and trailer driven by Kenneth Risovi of Harvey. Hvinden suffered non-life threatening injuries. Risovi was not injured.
According to the ND Highway Patrol, the semi-truck entered Hwy 200 from 45th Ave NE and was driving westbound on Hwy 200. The Silverado was also westbound. The driver of the Silverado failed to see the slower moving Kenworth semi-truck and rear ended the
trailer of the Kenworth.
Hvinden was charged with driving under suspended license and open container of alcohol.
This crash remains under investigation by
the ND Highway Patrol.

BREAKING NEWS: According to Wells County Sheriff Chris Kluth, a semi truck hauling cattle lost control and rolled on its side on hwy 200 this morning approximately 1.5 miles west of the Hwy 52/200 junction, 4 miles east of Bowdon. Traffic is being detoured while law enforcement, ambulance, fire and rescue teams manage the scene. “The roads are very icy this morning causing treacherous driving conditions. Icy roads were a factor in this accident,” Kluth said.
