We did it Accoladians! Got that second one and hoping for a third soon! This national award is equivalent to a Pulitzer Prize (only no money). The last time we won one was for issues published in the 2004-2005 school year.

Check out our Fun Friday Acco activity from Sept. 29. The staff learned a valuable object lesson of understanding what it means to meet deadlines on their assignments so they don't "drop the ball" and affect the publishing process. Be sure to check out the video. You'll love it!

Does anyone remember the Lancer Handbook? The Accolade's next "Did You Know?" feature is about the origins of that resource. Back in 2001 when I (Tommy Li) first started teaching here,, teachers would pass out hard copies on the first day of school during Period 2 and go over parts of it, like the attendance policy. If anyone knows its origins (i.e. how it came about; what you remember students did with it), please email me at [email protected]. Thanks so much.

It's been awhile since our last post, but we finally had a chance to update all of you about our recent honor from the National Scholastic Press Association [NSPA]. A few days after the Labor Day holiday weekend, the NSPA released its Pacemaker finalists, and we were among the finalists! On Friday, Sept. 8, Accolade adviser Tommy Li surprised the staff with a treat so we could all celebrate our 5th Pacemaker finalist award. Here's a video of the surprise celebration. (We'll find out on Nov. 4, 2023, if we end up winning our SECOND Pacemaker award. )
