These are the results of how Faculty Senate members voted for the Curriculum Committee’s recommendations to adopt the Title 5 minimum requirements to obtain an associate degree. This would in turn remove PE, lifelong learning, and multicultural requirements. The next step will be presenting this recommendation to the DCCC meeting on Thursday, May 9. After over two hours of student, faculty and senate commentaries, Faculty Senate voted 17-16 to approve the Curriculum Committee’s recommendation that removes local requirements to obtain an associate degree.

Leonor Cadena is one of two instructors traveling with students to Seville, Spain in spring 2023 after delays related to COVID-19. Cadena has 16 years of experience in traveling with students abroad, accompanying students on educational tours to countries including Australia, Italy, and Thailand. Until 2018, she relied on third-party companies such as Explorica and EF Tours to conduct her trips abroad. A semester in Florence, Italy marked her first time with Fullerton College’s Study Abroad Program. Applications for the Study Abroad program to Seville are due Oct. 17, 2022. Fullerton Union High School hosted a celebration of life for Brigman and Marvin Owens, two local legends who died within weeks of each other this summer. Family, friends, former teammates, and members of the community came together at Fullerton Union High School on Sept. 25 to pay tribute to their accomplishments. Fullerton women's soccer hosted their second Orange Empire Conference match of the season against Santiago Canyon College on Friday, Sept. 30 with a 3-0 loss The Hornets have been struggling to get wins this season, winning only two games during regular play. Their last game was a 2-0 loss at Cypress College (5-1-1, 1-1) on Tuesday, for their Orange Empire Conference opener. Hornets Volleyball won their second Orange Empire Conference match 3-0 against the Golden West Rustlers on Wednesday, putting the Hornets in a three-way tie for third place in the conference alongside the Rustlers and the Chargers. The Hornets bounced back from their last game, a 3-0 loss against Saddleback College. At the Sept. 29 Faculty Senate meeting, Interim President Monte Perez announced the suspension of the vaccine mandate at Fullerton College as of Jan. 1, 2023. The resolution for a Districtwide end to the mandate was approved at the NOCCCD board meeting on Sept. 27. The vaccination mandate had been in effect since Aug. 24, 2021, when the Board of Trustees directed the district to ensure that all employees and students over the age of five who enter the facilities or come on campus were fully vaccinated. Regular, on-site testing was an alternative given for those with religious or medical exemptions as defined by law. These regulations will stay in effect through the end of the calendar year. At the Sept. 29, meeting, a NOCE LEAP adjunct faculty member expressed support for the mandate's end to allow more of her students to attend classes. Other members of the NOCCCD community agreed. Dressing for success and making a good first impression is a must-have for job seekers, but it can be a challenge for college students on a budget. The Hanger Career Closet held its Grand Opening on Tuesday, giving students a solution by offering professional outfits for free. Students from all majors may obtain up to six items per semester. The items are free of charge and students can keep all the items. Students enrolled in at least 0.5 units are eligible and will have six points associated with their student number at the beginning of the semester. They can earn an additional four points by bringing in fellow students for a total of 10 points per semester. As the Fall semester nears the one-third mark, one group of students recently reflected on getting out from behind computer screens and experiencing campus life as Fullerton College emerges from the pandemic — even as COVID-19 remains a worry in the background. An inspirational alum, colorful Mexican crafts, and tasty treats were highlights of a pair of events at Fullerton College on Thursday celebrating Hispanic heritage and educational achievement. The Fullerton College campus is buzzing with energy as Hornets are once again filling halls, classrooms, and the quad. Events such as Club Rush and spaces like the Art Gallery can once more be experienced face to face. Student headcount stood at just over 18,000 as of the third week of classes, according to the Office of Institutional Effectiveness. Up approximately 1,500 students from the spring of this year. This is the first time since fall 2020 that enrollment has not declined from the previous semester. After a small win streak of two games, the Hornets hoped to extend it while playing on their home turf against the Oxnard Condors but ended in a 1-1 draw. Sophomore midfielder Ceasar Zamora received his second yellow card of the game for a high kick which endangered the opposing player, bringing the home team down to 10 men with five minutes left in the game. After years of construction and delays, the Fullerton College Starbucks is expected to open in time for the Pumpkin Spice drink season, with the opening date set for Monday, October 3. The building used to be home to The Stinger’s Café, located a convenient distance from the 700 building. Students and staff could grab a quick bite and cup of coffee in their break time. Fullerton College’s art gallery opened its doors on Thursday, Sept. 8, to showcase a faculty art exhibition with its theme surrounding earth, air, fire, and water. The exhibition, located in the 1000 building on campus, welcomes all who are interested in viewing sculptures, paintings, videos and more. The faculty exhibition will be open from Sept. 8 through Oct. 10, Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4p.m. or by appointment.
