In observance of Juneteenth, the library and many other city departments will be closed on June 19th.

This day commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and celebrates freedom and the contributions of Black communities to our nation’s history and culture. We encourage everyone to take this time to reflect, learn, and participate in events that honor the significance of this day.

We will resume regular business hours on June 20th.

Happy Birthday Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge!! Look for a feature on the refuge and more excursions in Sunday’s News & Eagle.

It’s our 92nd birthday!

Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge was established on March 26, 1930, as a breeding ground, feeding area and stopover for migratory birds. 315 species of birds have been observed here. The refuge is designated as an Important Bird Area, a site on the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network, a National Natural Landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior, and critical habitat for endangered Whooping Cranes.

Col. Eileen Collins graduated Undergraduate Pilot Training at Vance Air Force Base in 1978.
