The first day is school is around the corner!

I was a teacher not too long ago, and around this time of the year I started to get ready and excited to meet them.

Another mommies kid! The ones I’d get to sing and dance with. The ones I’d teach to read.

The ones I didn’t have at home just yet but wished to some day meet.

I wanted to teach them all I could about this beautiful and magical world.

Now I know how hard mom life is, how hard it is to let go.

To wonder who that teacher will be. How much she will impact her heart, feelings, and believes

Will she be as loving as I was with those other kids? I just wanted you to know there are teachers with a heart full of love & passion for teaching.

With imaginations to make the best of every lesson.

Life is not meant for us to do it all alone, so whether you are homeschooling or sending your kids off to school, find yourself a mommy group where you can learn to teach together.

Or make this year’s teacher your new friend. It’s really simple, offered to sharpen the pencil for her. Simple acts of kindness what will make her day to day with your little love run smoother.

A couple of weeks ago, while on a beach vacation, I uploaded this pic to my stories. I referenced the iconic (in my head) Friends episode where they go to Barbados and Monica's hair is frizzy and out of control because of the humidity. Most of my friends and I shared a laugh. A few of them kindly complimented my wild locks. But there was one comment that really got me thinking.

A friend mentioned how she has straight hair and has always wanted curly hair. "Isn't that funny how women are?" It is! It seems like we're always chasing after that which we don't have. Growing up, I always wanted straight, non-poofy hair. I was borderline embarrassed by how my hair just wouldn't stay put (unless I tamed it with copious amounts of hair gel and mousse).

It was so much unnecessary work. For what? To fit into what I somehow learned to perceive as beautiful and desirable. But life, with all its twists and turns, has gently guided me toward a more profound truth.

Straight hair is beautiful. Curly hair is beautiful. So is short hair. And the same goes for long hair. Black hair is beautiful. So is the gray hair that's lost its melanin. And so is every color in between. You get where I'm going with this.

I've learned that it takes courage to stand tall in the face of societal pressures and own ourselves without shame. It's truly liberating to free ourselves from the self-imposed chains of self-doubt and the futile pursuit of perceived perfection that will never truly satisfy us. Not until we make the choice to cherish and celebrate ourselves. No ifs, ands, or buts.

Our own narratives find so much more depth and meaning when we acknowledge and embrace the entirety of our being. The good, the bad, the great, the messy.
So, my friends, let us love on our uniqueness, our quirks, and our idiosyncrasies.

Let us revel and celebrate each other for who we are. Unfiltered.

Has there ever been a piece of advice that you received from a more seasoned mother that you scoffed at? For me it was advice to wake up early and get tasks done before the baby wakes up. I am not a morning person. At the beginning of the summer, after school let out, I found myself struggling to find balance in my life. So... I begrudgingly became a morning person. Here are some lessons I’ve learned.

Dear little boys, you are enough for mommy.

From the day I announced my second pregnancy, the question always was: do you hope it's a little girl?

The excitement we felt after finding out our second child would be a boy was always met with questions. But don't you want a girl? I'd laugh it off and simply respond, all we want is a healthy baby.

I know the question is always light-hearted, but it always makes me wonder. Why is it perceived that a mommy with multiple kids of the same gender is never enough?
You never know what a mom has been through to make motherhood a reality. That beautiful baby growing inside her is enough.

On July 18th, 2022, our second beautiful boy came into this world healthy and perfect as could be. Yet my excitement was met with comments of: will you try again?

Dear little boys, your silly giggles and toothy smiles are enough. Your little hands reaching up for me is enough. The gentle sound of your breath as you sleep on me is enough. The twinkle in your beautiful big brown eyes is enough.

Dear little boys, your monster truck mud pits, dino roaring, baseball bat swinging, and summertime water fights will always be more than enough for Mommy.

Mariana is a stay-at-home mom to three beautiful kids who keep her on her toes and fill her days with love and laughter. She is from Sonora, Mexico, and has been married for 13 years to her amazing husband. Since then, they have happily been residing here in El Paso. Mariana loves getting creative at home, whether trying out new projects with the little ones or finding simple habits for more joyful motherhood. Every day is an adventure, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

In addition to being a full-time mom, Mariana helps to manage two side businesses with her wonderful husband. Together, they built the apparel brand and owned a charming Airbnb in Ruidoso, New Mexico .
