Tuve la oportunidad de ver despegar un helicóptero. Ayer cubrí el 20 aniversario de Native Air, una empresa que brinda servicios médicos aéreos en el área de White Sands, y espera continuar por 20 años más.

Friends, I share my first live story for Telemundo 48 El Paso.

Many thanks to this great team for their support. I am very excited to return to where it all started and report for El Paso and Ciudad Juárez, but most of all, as the reporter for Las Cruces, New Mexico.

I spoke to residents of the Gateway Hotel yesterday after having less than 24 hours to vacate the building. Many of them without knowing where to go.

I spent the past year traveling across the country and photographing what I saw along the way. I swam in the middle of the Arizona desert, braved historic blizzards in rural Iowa. I ran through the decorated halls of the U.S. Capitol, and became a part of the noise in New York City. But I found no greater beauty than watching the wind blow through the wheat of Oklahoma’s rolling hills.

In 2005, my family and I settled in Oklahoma. For 20 years, I prayed for the day I’d pack my bags and leave the state. But when I returned home in August, I couldn’t stop staring at her pink and purple skies. I couldn’t get enough of the petrichor or the sightings of a Scissortail. I spent 20 years wishing I could leave, but when it came down to it, I didn’t want to.

I left Oklahoma last week to embark on a new journey. And I’m excited to share with you all what that is. But Oklahoma will always hold a special place in my heart for giving me and my family a chance at the American dream. Oklahoma, you’re enchanting, but you don’t get the credit you deserve.

Pasé el año pasado viajando atraves del país y fotografiando lo que veía en el camino. Nadé en medio del desierto de Arizona y enfrenté tormentas
invernales en Iowa. Corrí por los pasillos del Capitolio de los Estados Unidos y formé parte del ruido en Nueva York. Pero no encontré mayor belleza que ver el viento soplar entre el trigo de Oklahoma.

En 2005, mi familia y yo nos establecimos en este estado. Durante 20 años, oré por el día en que empacaría las maletas y dejaría el estado. Pero cuando regresé a casa en agosto, no podía dejar de admirar sus cielos rosados y morados. Pasé 20 años deseando poder irme, pero al final no quise.

Dejé Oklahoma la semana pasada para embarcarme en un nuevo capítulo. Y estoy emocionado de compartir con todos ustedes de qué se trata. Pero Oklahoma siempre tendrá un lugar especial en mi corazón por brindar a mí y a mi familia la oportunidad de alcanzar el sueño americano. Oklahoma, eres encantador, pero no recibes el crédito que mereces.

My time in New York City was more than what I dreamed of.

I’m eternally grateful for the team at for teaching me everything they know. Thank you to for this opportunity and all others I took advantage of as an undergraduate student. And to my mentors: it truly takes a village.

I couldn’t have asked for a better way to close out this chapter in my life.

Mass shooting at a grocery store in Fordyce, AR. A total of 9 people were shot, 2 dead.

The shooter was critically injured and arrested.

*UPDATED INFORMATION ON NUMBER OF VICTIMS IN FORDYCE SHOOTING INCIDENT; MEDIA BRIEFING SCHEDULED*

At approximately 11:30 a.m. today, Arkansas State Police (ASP) responded to a shooting incident at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce. A total of nine individuals were shot.

Seven of the shooting victims were civilians, with two fatalities.

One law enforcement officer was also shot and has non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooter was critically injured after being shot by law enforcement and has been taken into custody.

ASP will hold a briefing at 3:30 p.m. today in the parking lot of Relyance Bank located at 610 West 4th Street in Fordyce.

I was the first in my family to bring home a bachelor’s degree from a four year university yesterday.

I am the product of hard workers with blistered hands and scarred bodies whose blood and sweat glows richer than all of earth’s gold. I walked across that stage draped in generations of struggles. Statistics said I couldn’t and yet I did.

Washington, D.C. was more than what I asked for. Here are some highlights of the past 9 months living in the nations capital.

Interning with at and introduced me to some of the brightest, most passionate, and talented journalists in our industry. I’m overwhelmed by their support and encouragement— they become a home away from home.

I leave with complete understanding of my worth as a Bilingual, multi-skilled, Latino journalist. Seeing WRC and Telemundo 44’s collaboration to improve storytelling in our Latino communities gave me a newfound mission and hope for our profession. I’ll be searching for the same leadership and dedication in my next chapter.

Thinking of the city

Washington, D.C. feels like political tug-a-war as democrats and republicans fail to find common ground various issues. @katcrumbacher and I sat down with @governorkevinstitt to talk about his recent meeting with @potus during the National Governors Association Winter Meeting. I wish people would’ve told me that I’d meet Oklahomans everywhere I traveled to. For example, meet Jesse Kern, a caucus leader with an interesting connection to the Sooner state. Story for @gaylordnews_ for its coverage of the 2024 Iowa Caucus.

A vibrant Latino community in Iowa is having trouble engaging in this year’s election cycle, saying they feel used. The Latino community is restless and Democrats are nervous. Iowa has been nothing but a violent snow globe, but this story was too important to not brave subzero temperatures and tons of snow.

D.C. has become a home away from home.

Congress recently passed a stopgap (CR) bill after weeks of debate, avoiding a government shutdown. While congress members went home for Thanksgiving, military personnel tell their worry isn’t taking a break. Whether it’s a CR or a shutdown, there are still huge implications to the military.
