The Colorado Office of Film, Television and Media (COFTM) launched the Film Exposure Program in rural Colorado for the 22-23 school year. This initiative collaborates with high schools, local public libraries, and film professionals to provide high school students with an in-depth educational exposure program in narrative filmmaking. The program has completed its second year with a total of 6 different locations across rural Colorado. In celebration, students will be able to attend a private screening of their finished film at the Mesa County Public Library.

Mountainfilm will run from the 23rd to the 27th of this year in Telluride, Colorado. In addition to screening leading independent documentary films from around the world, the festival includes a speaker series focusing on contemporary issues, art and photography exhibits, early morning coffee talks, outdoor programs, a book-signing party, an ice cream social, student programs, and a closing picnic/awards ceremony. The Office of Film, television, and Media serves to develop the local Colorado industry. The film industry is only one of many creative industries hoping to thrive in Colorado. In honor of this, COFTM is supporting the Colorado Creative Industries Summit. This year the summit will be held in Pueblo Colorado from May 9th through 10th. The Creative Industries Summit is the annual event for Colorado creatives to connect, learn, and be inspired. More than 300 creative stakeholders from over 60 Colorado cities and towns attend the summit.

"The Holly" has secured its place among 167 documentaries vying for recognition in the Oscars Doc Race. Colorado extended an incentive to support the film's production in July 2014. Qualifying for a $20,817 incentive, the project not only achieved artistic success but also made a significant economic impact, estimated at $37,434.17.

The commission, led by Emmy Award Winning Filmmaker Julie Speer Jackson, will work to develop the local media ecosystem by offering opportunities for professional development through networking events, workshops, and crew and vendor databases specific to the community.

A documentary demonstrating the power of modern youth apprenticeship programs to create new career pathways will air on PBS12 this week. The half-hour film, Tomorrow’s Talent Today, was produced with support from the Colorado Office of Film, Television and Media (COFTM), the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) and CareerWise Colorado, and highlights the experiences of two CareerWise Colorado apprentices at Pinnacol Assurance.
The film highlights the success of modern apprenticeship programs as state leaders launch new programs to foster the development of innovative workforce training programs. It will air on PBS12 on June 21, 2023 at noon, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. and June 25 at 1 p.m. with streaming available soon after. A preview of Tomorrow’s Talent Today is available upon request. GRANT ALERT: The Summer Grant of the Roy W. Dean Film Grants is now accepting entries. Awarded by top-rated 501(c)3 non-profit From the Heart Productions, the grant seeks unique films that make a contribution to society. Deadline for grant submissions is June 30th, 2023.

The grant is open to documentaries, narrative features, short films and web series budgeted at $500,000 or less. Films can be at any stage of production. Students are welcome to apply.

Winner of the Roy W. Dean Film Grant for Summer will receive $3,500 and thousands more in donated film products and services including $1,295.00 Scholarship to Writers Boot Camp, $500 in grip, lighting or expendables from Filmtools, a 30% Discount by Jerry Deaton for Music Post Production Services at AudioKut , $750 in Grant Writing Services from Karen Everett of New Doc Editing, and more from many heartfelt donors.
