Since 2004, Dr. J has curated a musical experience focused on adventurous new, alternative, indie, local and Dayton music not heard on most radio stations.
The show began as ‘The School of Rock with Dr. J & Mrs. Dr. J’ and focused on the origins of the post-punk and alternative music that was once known as ‘College Rock.’ How did the indie music of the ‘70s and ‘80s lay a foundation for the indie music of the 1990s and beyond? These questions were part of a long tradition. Dr. J had crafted previous versions of this program at other radio stations (notably KUMM in Morris, Minnesota and WBGU in Bowling Green, Ohio).
After a few years of doing YTAA on WUDR in Dayton, Ohio the program changed focus to explore in even more detail the local, Dayton and Southwest Ohio bands and musicians. The strength of the local music scene led to a change of vision for the program. ‘Support Your Local Music Scene’ which is said at the end of the program each week is not just a throw away tag line, it is the philosophy for this program!
