Labor Day weekend event serves as fundraiser for Cayden Baelz
The event on August 31, kicks off at noon with lots of food and drinks, live music and activities. There will also be a silent auction, from noon to 6 p.m. with more than 100 items up for bidding, and a raffle for timeshares to Florida and Gatlinburg, with the big drawing happening at 7 p.m.

Rex. F. Brown, 91, of Corydon, died Monday, August 26, 2024, at The Willows Assisted Living near Corydon. He was born May 26, 1933, near Corydon, to the late Herschel Craig Brown and Hazel Mae Lang Brown. He was a farmer, was a retired machinist at International Harvester in Louisville, was formerly employed with the Town of Corydon Water Department, attended Heidelberg Church near Corydon, was a member of the Old Capitol Saddle Club, and was U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Charles M. Brown.
Survivors include his daughter, Lisa D. Klein (Robert); his grandchildren, Brooke Deis (Michael) and Taylor Klein (Ashley); and his great grandchildren, Bradley, Blake and Bennett Deis.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon. Pastor Chuck Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Heidelberg Cemetery near Corydon. Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, Texas 75284-0692 or at www.heart.org.
The Indian Creek Trail is poised to get a splash of color, creativity, and community spirit with a proposed mural under the S.R. 337 bridge between Harrison County Community Services and the YMCA. π¨
The design and theme of the mural will be shaped through a community engagement session on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 2-4 p.m. at Harrison County Arts (113 E Beaver St. in Corydon). Members of the community are invited to attend and share their ideas and insights for the muralβs design.

HCCF awards local organizations $63k in grants π΅
The Harrison County Community Foundation recently announced three grant awards totaling over $63,000 going to support of local nonprofit organizations. The grants aim to support a diverse range of programs that provide early childhood education, recreation activities, and historical preservation.

One Community, an organization aiming to help the homeless veteran community in Harrison County, is one step closer to its organizers goal after receiving funding from this yearβs Samtec Cares event.
βMike and I say this all the time, this is not our projectβthis is Godβs project," One Community President Sean Davis said. "He just allows us to play in it. We just get to watch him make all of this magic happen in this whole thing.β

***Road Closure Update***
Whiskey Run Rd
A reminder that the closure for the BR #21 project on Whiskey Run Rd is scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 3rd. The closure is located approximately 500-ft west of Indian Bluff Rd and is expected to last up to 45 calendar days. The detour route has not changed from what was previously posted and is attached again below.
The Harrison County Community Foundation (HCCF) Board of Directors recently announced it would be awarding a $350,000 grant to the Town of Corydon for the construction of an 8,000-square-foot concrete all-wheels skatepark and fingerboard table. πΉ
The skatepark will be located on the former Gerdon Auto property between East Chestnut Street and Little Indian Creek on the east side of town. It will be adjacent to the new playground and restrooms which was part of the Rice Island extension project. The development of the skatepark is a grassroots effort initiated by Sam Miller and Gary Graves, local skaters who recognized the need and drove the project.

As fans descended upon Salem High School for the start of the 2024 edition of Friday Night Lights, the opposing benches were filled with two different sets of energy.

Falls of the Ohio State Park will host its annual Digging the Past event on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guests can explore fossils, minerals, and archaeology with a variety of free programs and games behind the parkβs Interpretive Center. Admission to the museum gallery is $7 for all during this event.

The River Cities Concert Band will be playing a free concert for the community of Corydon on August 24 at 7 p.m., on the east lawn of Corydon Presbyterian Church. This will be the first one in Corydon since before the pandemic and the hope is to restart the tradition and offer more next summer. π·πΊπ»
