1911 .45 ACP AND 25-2 MODEL OF 1989 .45 ACP REVOLVER: Celebrated my 82nd birthday at the shooting range. I was pretty well pleased with the results even with my aging macular degeneration in my shooting eye. I shot with both eyes open and kept all but a few in the 10-ring. I have always enjoyed target shooting about as much I enjoy photography... and fishing....and squirrel hunting. I've never owned a 1911 .45 automatic before but with the help of Elke Allen at Allen't Gun Shop I was able to select and order one that fit my hand perfectly and is really a lot of fun to shoot. Looking forward to the next time. :)

THE MATING GAME: title of a movie? Yes, but that's not what this is. The waterfowl are playing the mating game now for real. The female mallard will take off and tease the males into chasing her. She will lead them on a merry chase off and on over several days until she decides she is ready to mate. By that time she has determined which one is the fittest and has the most stamina. This is the one which will pass on its genetic makeup to her ducklings and, hopefully, give them the best chance for survival into adulthood and then migration. It also gives us the best opportunity for ducks in flight photography. :)

GBH IS STILL HANGING AROUND: but when we went to Lib Pk late this afternoon it was 63F. A black cloud rolled in, the wind picked up and by the time we hurried back to the car it was 52F. A mile late at DQ for burgers and ice cream it was in the 40s. That was a sudden and dramatic change. BTW, I made this picture a couple of days ago. I selected it to work on not because it was a good picture but because it was a real challenge trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Everything was in the same reflectance range and blended together. Call it an etude. 😎

GUESS WHO SHOWED UP AT THE POND: We went down to Lib Pk to walk around The Pond and get some exercise today and to see what all the critters are doing. The waterfowl are all restless and moving around a lot. Good chance for some BIF shots if one is patient. You never know where or when. Didn't see Red-Shoulders today which is unusual but we were pleased to find a GBH had returned. I hope he is planning to spend the summer this time. Last year they were scarce for some reason. Anyway, I want to welcome him back with this post.

RED-SHOULDERED HAWK AT THE POND: Did a morning walk at The Pond by myself this morning for the first time since last November. It really felt good. The sun was bright and warm and lot of folks were out walking and jogging.
Old Red-Shoulder took off and circled right over my head until he was almost out of sight. Then he set flaps for a sharp glide toward the woods beside the North Slough and went screeeee, screeeeee all the way to his landing spot. I suspect his sweetie was waiting for him but I did't see her. I was a fine morning experience.

RED SHOULDERED HAWK AT THE POND: I posted this a few minutes ago as a Cooper's Hawk but I believe that was incorrect. Upon further study I'm doing it over as a Red Shouldered Hawk. To start with, the body seems to be heavier than a Cooper's Hawk. But the thing I remember that really set me off is that a mature Cooper's Hawk had red eyes. This one has black eyes. The tail seems to be shorter than a Cooper's Hawk. There are other distinguishing features but I almost always have to study my pictures when I get home before I feel relatively confident to make a call. :) Anyway, a pair of them are frequenting Liberty Park and might nest nearby this season.

MR. (?) COOPER: I think the Cooper's Hawks might nest at Liberty Park, or somewhere nearby, this season. I frequently see the pair of them when I am there. They seem to be acclimating to the presence of people with cameras very well. This one took some time and gave me several good poses today.
They are not aware, and frankly could care less, that they will get a name change sometime in the next several months. It has been deemed politically incorrect for birds to have any human name as part of their own name. I think about 60 North American birds will be affected initially if anyone can agree about what the new names will be. I'm calling BS on this. :)

SCREWED UP FB: I'm not posting this picture because I think it's good. I just want to see if it will show up somewhere on FB and if I can manage that site and link all of my 2022 pictures to it. SCREWED UP FB!!! What is all this crap that is popping up on this page. Where is it coming from? I used to only see my friends posts here.

12/13/2022

Still trying to figure out what happened to FB. I can pull up my site with all of my pictures and friends on it but I can't post to it. My posts go to this crappy new site. Is this it? Have I lost everything in my old site? Can I not connect the two? Even if I can connect them this new system is BS.

WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO MY 2022 FB POSTS? WHERE ARE ALL MY BIRD PICTURES? WHO THE HECK SCREWED UP FB LIKE THIS? I WANT MY OLD FB BACK!!!

REBUILT MY HOLLYWOOD SET: This "diorama set" is only about 2 1/2 x 3 feet on an old piece of plywood. I collected roots, old limbs, weeds and plants from our fencerow and arranged them on the board. Looks like a picture made in the natural habitat now.
