Thought I'd share this because I'm very proud of it. It was a long time ago back in '88 I believe, but the mayor of Cincinnati Charlie luken (his signature has faded a bit) and vice mayor Peter Strauss at the time proclaimed a day by George Day because of the positive stories we were doing and how we work to uplift the spirits of the community and highlight unsung heroes.

Art is in the eye of the beholder, so behold the lawn of Deloris Flum of Dent Ohio. Met her back in 1980 something......

This is about a week late but you know what they say. We met Buddy Woods back in 1980 something as he was tracing across the country bound for NYC's Time Square. He had a simple message as old as time. I tried googling him but found nothing. If you guys have any luck please let me know. Thanks Cincinnati By George

I remember we did a story on that flying saucer shaped house over in the woods in Covington that you undoubted have heard about by now....but after that we got a call about I guy building a real flying saucer with his teenager. Granted it only got an inch or so above the ground but this storty was about 25 years ago...I wonder.......????

Old Carl calls himself a "cinder sniffer". That is those that love the era of romance when steam driven trains ruled the rails. So he made himself a small reminder of the era.

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of man???? 10 words that kept people on the edge of their seats almost 100 years ago! Back in 1980 something we met a man who collected pretty much everything he could about "The Shadow" .Wonder what this collection is worth now? By the way, Who knows??? The Shadow knows...

Back in 1980 something a couple of Cincy mom's opened up a survival school for young kids! Not cabin in the woods type stuff but a class to prepare kids for the cruel world that lies ahead. Funny and sad that these days survival school for them would mean how to hide from a gunman....but the 80's was a gentler time in Cincinnati as I guess it was everywhere.

Curt Zaban is/was homeless. Homeless in the 80's. By now my guess is ole Curt has passed on. Yet Curt has a talent that gave him most joy when he shared it with others..... Whoda thought?

Here's one from 1989 I think. We visited the Las Vegas Neon Boneyard. This was long before they had put together the Neon Museum that operates today. Back then all of the old Vegas historic signs were just piled in the back of the Vegas YESCO sign company....rotting in the desert heat. Sorry but I dont have the original tape to post only this link from YouTube, so click through the ad at the beginning.

George Ciccarone takes us on a tour of the famed Las Vegas Neon boneyard. Where the Vegas glitter goes to die.

Thanks to my old WKRC TV director Curtis Mitchell who dug this up somewhere lol.https://youtu.be/GqOXg2Do794

Local 12 news report catching up with a few people he had interviewed over the previous year and a half or so. Anchor Terry Jessup intro.

We met Ron Vance back in 1980 something. He was a youth minister at the Western Hills Church of Christ, and he is still there all these years later! Videographer Brad Jones and I soon learned he had a divine hobby. Ya see, when we met him he had some "pennies from heaven" that proved, in God he Trusts.

Ray Ridge, who we met in 1980 something collects records,...but not only for what's on them, but for the records themselves. The evolution of the phonograph record is something few know. Like paper records from war time that were sold by paper boys in the 40's... All sorts of stories at least I was never aware of. Some even works of art. Lets take a sentimental and informative journey with Ray Ridge of Amelia Ohio.

Some people don't like it when dog hair and such get on their sweaters,. But not this lady.....She thrives on it!....And here's why...🐶

I loved doing stories like this. Pure Americana. Anyone can start a business in this great land of ours and I guess this next story proves that! A couple of guys, a well fed horse, a shovel and a dream.....Welcome to The Turd Factory.

Back in 1980 something we heard of a local woman who made look-a-like dolls. She's no diva, but at $700 each (1980's money) she does want to "thank all of the little people".

01/20/2022

It was 1980something when we met Jim Newton of Hamilton Ohio. Jim a former newspaperman has collected some of the most memorable newspaper headlines of out time. That is if our time was 1668 to 1980something. Here ya go, ripped from yesteryears news...

Nothing is sadder than having to let go of your dreams. Wally who we met in 1980 something said he had farming in his blood. Only his family took a different road as did he. However he never let go and he discovered late in life that he could live his dream after all...."little by little".

Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it,. Right? Well that could be said of this medical doctor. It was in 1980 something we met Dr. Maxwell who showed us his collection of medical quackery from days gone by and as you will see, that it where it should stay.

Worth another look on this Christmas Eve. These kids were from the St. Ursula Villa Grade School. All now well into their 40's. The girl who played Mary is now a doctors. Time flies but the message of this story stands still.

For all of us who love out pets, especially during Christmas! I look back some 40 years to a "Santa Pet Portrait" photographer.

Granted this is a dumb story, especially by todays standards. If was simple and sweet and filled a hole in our newscast but I posed it because it gives us a glimpse into us and what was important almost 40 years ago. Simple stories about our neighbors that manty times gave them well over looked and overdue kudos. Here is the "Santa" lady.

This was always one of my favorites. Charlie the Spoon Fed Goldfish. Sure we love Charlie the carnival goldfish that grew to about 15 pounds, but his owner Inga Meckle who daily would climb into Charlies pond with a heepin' helpin' of mash potatoes, and of course, a spoon.

After this aired Inga and Charlie were booked on the ole Tonight Show with Johnnie Carson who loved them both. I think you will too.

Long before social media, word processors and the "unfriend" button Katy Schuddie saw a ninhe. She knew there were so called Greeting Cards but what if you wanted to send a "different" message. Well then, Katy is your lady...BTW that thing she is using is called "a typewriter."

We met Richard Raymond back in 1980 something. What makes Richard a story worth telling? Well he's an award winning composer, he's only 16,.....and he can't hear a thing.

Cincinnati, ByGeorge

I had the honor, opportunity and the best time of my life as a Feature Reporter at WKRC-TV . There I did my "By George" stories from 1979 to '89 and our segment won 13 Emmy Awards for Storytelling. During that time with the help of brilliant videographer Brad Jones and opera singer/researcher Maria Picciano, I had the true pleasure of telling the stories of thousands who, as I always described, should be making headlines but don't. They were all very unusual, and stepped to the beat of a different drummer. Most were eccentric, in a good way and all had dreams of making their mark in this small corner of the world.

In early 2018 I got a call from an engineer friend of mine, Greg Hanson. He discovered in a dusty backroom hours and of my old stories that were never saved. He shipped them to me and they ended up here. I hope to provide update on all these folk. Some I'm sure you will remember, some you will meet for the first time. All as I found you won't ever forget. Love to hear your thoughts an comments. Thank you again all you Cincinnatians for welcoming me and my "wonderfully crazy people" into your homes nightly...and here we go again.
