UPCOMING DETOUR/CLOSURE ALERT!

On Thursday, February 10 beginning at 8 a.m., US 287 northbound traffic west of Childress will be detoured until 5 p.m.

Those traveling west of Childress on US 287 will be detoured to US 83 north to SH 256 west to Memphis. Message board and flagger crews will be set up at the US 287 and US 83 intersection directing traffic to this detour.

Another message board and flagger crew will be set up north of Childress alerting traffic of the closure/detour on US 287.

Additional flaggers will be in place at the construction zone at the US 83 Red River Bridge in lieu of temporary traffic signals in order to coordinate the increase in northbound traffic volume.

The purpose of the detour is to allow TxDOT crews to make permanent repairs to a recent pavement failure on the bridge approach in the one-lane construction zone at Baylor Creek. While inconvenient for travelers, this closure and detour is necessary to ensure the safety of the traveling public by making the necessary repairs on US 287 at the Baylor Creek Bridge.

Brine spraying operations will take place across the Childress District beginning today in anticipation of another round of winter weather. Be sure and reduce your speed when approaching our crews to allow them plenty of room to do their job.

TxDOT crews in Childress will have the southbound driving lane of US 287 west of Walmart closed for repair work. The lane is expected to reopen by the end of the day. Be work zone aware if traveling through the area. Reduce your speed, limit distractions and look out for workers.
