Enjoying a Ready to Learn Neighborhood meeting with our partner, Parents as Teachers of Hamilton County, in the great city of St. Louis!
Collaborating with educators across the country to build quality resources for kids and caregivers around the new PBS KIDS show, Lyla in the Loop. The show's innovators were even there to hear our feedback and recommendations!

Itβs π Earth Day, a great time to tell you about some recent changes at WTCI PBS. We are grateful to have been chosen as one of the nonprofits to receive a GoodUse grant for sustainability upgrades through Southface Institute. Big thanks to Southface for helping us responsibly sustain our work!

There is nothing better than cooking a meal and being able to share it with those you love. It is also a great way to share in traditons. Thank you Calvin Donaldson Elementary for inviting us to you show of learning night. Their students impressed us with the work they have completed in the classrom and were able to show us some of what they learn at home by sharing a recipe that is special to them and that they enjoy making with their loved ones.

Last night our Manager of Educational Content, Robyn Stringellow graduated from the Arts Build Holmberg Arts Leadership Institute. She joins Emily Compton and Bob Culkeen as fellow WTCI Alumni. The Holmberg Arts Leadership Institute is designed for residents of the greater Chattanooga area who share a passion for advancing and engaging with the arts in our community. The Holmberg Institute provides many opportunities for networking and strengthens individual talents and skills needed to serve as volunteers, board members and fundraisers. Congrats to the class of 2024!
Assistant Principal Johnson of Hixson Elementary School shares a simplified version of her favorite dish: tacos! Food is a great way to bring friends and family together.

We had so much fun at Hixson Elementary School last week. We work with students on helping them create "family artifacts" of a recipe that they hold dear. Students were able to step it out by writing out the ingredients and instructions to the recipe. Then they were able to picture their recipes by drawing the finished product. Next the students created their own chef bio, and finally were able to put it all together by recording their favorite family recipe on their very own "Chef Show" using our mobile green screen studio. What fun we had last night at Carver Community Center for our March Ready To Learn event. Children and families were able to learn more about the design process and coding using If, then statements and learning about cause and effect with our good friends the Work It Out Wombats. We were so glad to be able to host BIG Futures program last night. We were able to showcase all of the career possibilities within public media while learning some media literacy skills along the way. Bigs and Littles then got the chance to put together their own video showcasing what they learned.

We had so much fun at East Chattanooga Community Center Friday! We were able to enjoy a dlicious meal while watching Molly of Denali prepare one of her favorite Alaskan dishes. After dinner students and their families were able to create their own family traditions by sharing recipes that they love to create together. The students were even able to create their own "cooking show" to share their recipes and demonstrate functional literacy. Did you know that Chattanooga is the home of the Medal of Honor, or that Tennessee has more Medal of Honor recipients than any other state? That is part of the reason we are called The Volunteer State. Thank you to Charles H. Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center onal Medal of Honor Heritage Center for hosting us this morning. What a beautiful center that tells the story of some very incredible people. The volunteers and staff also have some amazing stories to share as well.
