Gas Prices Continue to Slide Lower
EV charging prices remain parked

Today’s national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.41, down three cents from last week. One year ago, the price was $3.87. The New York State average is $3.54, down two cents from last Monday. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.92. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:

Batavia - $3.58 (up 2 cents from last Monday)
Buffalo - $3.56 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
Elmira - $3.35 (down 2 cents from last Monday)
Ithaca - $3.61 (down 2 cents from last Monday)
Rochester - $3.59 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
Rome - $3.63 (no change from last Monday)
Syracuse - $3.50 (down 3 cents from last Monday)
Watertown - $3.55 (down 3 cents from last Monday)

Falling by three cents since last week, the national average for a gallon of gas is back to the June price level. Summer is wrapping up soon, and so far, gas prices have barely wobbled. Concerns over Hurricane Debby are over now that the storm has passed, however, we still have a long way to go with hurricane season, so it is too soon to declare that pump prices have started their usual Autumn swoon. This morning, oil prices remain low – between $76 and $79 per barrel. The latest data from the Energy Information

Administration (EIA) shows that gas demand edged slightly higher while production decreased slightly. Tepid gasoline demand and stable oil costs may cause pump prices to slide further down.
When it comes to EV charging, the national and state averages for L2 commercial electricity remain the same as a week ago. Today’s national average for a kilowatt of electricity at an L2 commercial charging station is 34 cents. An estimated 1.2 million AAA members live in households with one or more electric vehicles.

For drivers who use diesel fuel, the national average price for diesel is $3.73, down two cents from last Monday. The New York average is $4.17, down one cent from last Monday.

From the Niagara County Sheriff

On August 16, 2024, The Niagara County
Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received calls
reporting that a vehicle had crashed into the building at
WNY Urology located at 3850 Saunders Settlement Road in the
Town of Cambria.
Patrol responded on scene to find a 2023 Ford Escape had
crashed into the front of the building. The driver was
interviewed, to which he stated that he was pulling into a
parking spot, thought he had the depressed the brake, but
the vehicle went forward. There were no injuries to
personnel inside the business, but the driver and passenger
were transported to Lockport Hospital for evaluation of
minor injuries. The Town of Cambria Building Inspector also
responded to assess the building. There is no damage
estimate available and the business did not have to cease
operations.
