Please keep Rolland’s family in your prayers. Rolland brought our Brookings Radio family together when he owned Three Eagles Communications. He was also instrumental in getting the SDSU college radio station going, now known as KSDJ. His brother Jim and wife Ardis reside in Brookings. Rolland was a great broadcaster, mentor and friend. We will miss him dearly!!!

08/01/2024

While the Lake Preston Fire Department and the Kingsbury County Sheriff’s Office were out storm watching on the evening of Wednesday, July 31st, a call came in requesting assistance for a female victim who was found on the shore of Lake Henry. The DeSmet Ambulance was dispatched. A second victim was then located on the shore near her. CPR was performed and they were transported to the hospital. After many life-saving steps were performed, both females did not survive. It is believed they were in the lake on their personal flotation devices when the wind picked up and they were overcome by the waves. Names of the out of state victims are not being released at this time.

A huge thank you to all of those who helped during this tragedy…DeSmet Ambulance and first responders, Lake Preston Fire, DeSmet hospital staff, and volunteers.

Photos and report by Brookings Radio’s Bryan Waltz.

This is Sue and Dennis…they had their deck and gazebo ripped from their camping spot just north of Dollar General on Lake Poinsett. Part of the metal gazebo is wrapped around the tree to the left and the deck was thrown over a hundred yards away landing in the campground driveway. They were not at the campground at the time of the storm.
