SDSU FB…Pierre Strong rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns and South Dakota State cruised past Youngstown State 47-16. Chris Oladokun threw for 260 yards and started the game with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Zach Heins on South Dakota State’s first possession. Pierre made the lead 14-0 when he scored from the 5-yard line nine plays after a Youngstown State three-and-out. Mitch Davidson completed six of seven passes for 111 yards for the Penguins with a pair of touchdowns to Bryce Oliver. Oliver made three catches for 78 yards.

SUMMIT XC...The South Dakota State men's cross country team continued its Summit League dominance Saturday at Holland Hall, winning its league-record sixth consecutive conference title.
Gabe Peters claimed the men's Summit League individual title in the 8,000-meter race, clocking a winning time of 24 minutes, 33.25 seconds, which is the fifth-fastest 8K time in league history. Peters also earned all-Summit League recognition for the fifth time.
Adding to the Jackrabbits' six finishers in the top seven spots included Ben Olson, who followed just behind Peters with a time of 24:38.24 for second and Max Selbach took third in 24:39.74.
The next trio of runners included Tom Breuckman, a four-time All-Summit League runner, for fifth place with a time of 24:53.92. Joseph Minor-Williams finished in 24:58.28 for sixth and Daniel Burkhalter took seventh in 25:00.25.

Leah Hansen repeated as individual champion and South Dakota State claimed its second women's team title in a row by the narrowest of margins at the Summit League Cross Country Championships Saturday at Holland Hall.
A sophomore from Willmar, Minnesota, Hansen crossed the finish line in the 6,000-meter race in 21 minutes, 3.78 seconds to lead three Jackrabbits to top-six finishes. Cailee Peterson finished in fourth place with a time of 21:37.03 and Anna Donnay followed close behind for a sixth-place finish in 21:44.61.
The next Jackrabbit runners crossed the finish line in a pack with Oksana Johnson in the lead, taking 21st place in 22:41.90. Caitlin Bright followed just behind in 23rd place with a time of 22:41.90. Kayla Christopherson took 24th in 22:47.29 and Bailey Dergan finished in 25th in 22:48.21.
Jessica Christoffer claimed 30th in 23:02.70 and Nicole Greyer rounded out the Jackrabbit runners for 39th place with a time of 23:19.01.
SDSU's 55 points edged NDSU by one point to earn the women's second straight team title.

SDSU SOCCER...Two second-half goals lifted South Dakota State (15-2-1, 6-1-1 SUMMIT) past Omaha (8-7-2, 5-3-0 SUMMIT) on a beautiful Friday evening at Caniglia Field. Avery Murdzek turned in the game-winner in the 80th minute on what might be the Jacks' goal of the year to give SDSU a 2-1 victory over the Mavericks.
Teani Arakawa scored her fifth goal of the season in the contest while the go-ahead goal marked Murdzek's sixth of the year and second in the last three games. Maya Hansen, Adalaide Kline and Kayla Anderson all registered an assist in the winning effort.
Netminder Jocelyn Tanner (11-2-1) made four saves in the victory for the Jacks

SDSU EQUESTRIAN...The South Dakota State equestrian team wrapped up a successful week of home action Friday with a 15-1 victory over Minnesota Crookston in head-to-head competition at the DeHaan Equestrian Center. The Jackrabbits swept three of the four events en route to the victory.
SDSU won all eight matchups in the Western discipline on Thursday, then earned victories in seven of the eight jumping seat matchups in Friday competition. Shelby Cochran earned Most Outstanding Performer honors in horsemanship with a score of 75, with Isabelle Riggs taking home MOP accolades in reining with a score of 73.5.
Other winners in reining for the Jackrabbits were Kasey Bogie (73), Amelia Nelson (72.5) and Natalie Gydesen (71).

The Jacks wrapped up the first half of the MVFC season last Saturday with a 26-17 Hobo Day loss to Northern Iowa. SDSU coach John Stiegelmeier says the morale of the team is still high even after two straight losses.
The number thirteen Jacks, will travel to Youngstown State this Saturday. Coach John Stiegelmeier talks about the Penguins:

SDSU XC...The South Dakota State University cross country teams begin championship racing season Saturday by competing at the 2021 Summit League Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The event is set to kick off with the men's 8,000-meter race at 10 a.m., followed by the women's 6K race at 11 a.m. The championships will be held at Holland Hall in Tulsa.
The Jackrabbit men's team will be in search of its sixth consecutive Summit League title and and 10th overall. The SDSU women also will look to defend their team title from a season ago, while Jackrabbit sophomore Leah Hansen will attempt to repeat as the women's individual champion.
Another team title by the SDSU men would better the league's longest streak of five consecutive men's team titles by Southern Utah from 1997-2001.

CASTLEWOOD FB...Castlewood will travel to Herreid/Selby Area in the quarterfinal round of the Class 9A playoffs on Thursday night.
The Warriors defeated Kadoka Area 42-20 in their opening-round game last week: Castlewood has been struggling with injuries this year says Coach Doug Ruesink:
Despite the injuries, Castlewood has put together a 6-3 record. Those three losses are against Hamlin, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland, and De Smet. Coach Ruesink says it's been an up and down year.

DeSMET FB...Number three seeded De Smet will host the five seed Warner in the quarterfinal round of the Class 9A football playoffs this Thursday.
De Smet, ranked number one in the final Class 9A Broadcaster Poll, rolled Britton-Hecla in the opening round last Thursday 62-12.
The Bulldogs are 9-0 coming into this week. One of the strengths of this years squad is the defense which has five shutouts on the season:

SELLAND...South Dakota State's Myah Selland has been named to the watch list for the Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year Award by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
Selland is one of 20 watch list candidates. She was also named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year watch list and tabbed as the Summit League's Preseason Player of the Year earlier this month.

SDSU GOLF…
SDSU women's golf placed 10th at the Clash at Boulder Creek Tuesday to wrap up the fall season. Freshman Shakira-Ann Kuys had the best placing of the Jackrabbits, finishing tied for 17th place.
Kuys followed up her opening round of +5 with a pair of even rounds for a 221 (+5) final score. Mia Seeman was one shot behind her teammate and finished 24th.
Lani Potter was the third-highest State finisher. She was +8 and tied for 28th place.
Hester Sicking finished the Clash +21 and Piper Stubbs was +30. As a team, the Jacks posted a 904 (+40).

The SDSU men's golf team wrapped up the fall portion of its 2021-22 schedule Tuesday with a seventh-place finish at the Battle at Black Creek. The Jacks put together their best event to par of the fall season, turning in a +5 final scorecard.
Jack Tanner and Jonah Dohrer led the Jackrabbits with matching 219 (+3) final totals. The pair finished tied for 22nd place.
Liam Georgiadis and Matthew Schaefer also had matching scores. At 221 (+5), the duo was tied for 36th overall.
Will Frazier rounded out the Jackrabbit squad. He carded his best 18 holes of the week in the last round with a 68 (-4) to jump 28 spots in the standings in finish tied for 54th.

SDSU WBB…The South Dakota State women's basketball team will host St. Cloud State Wednesday night in exhibition action at Frost Arena.
SDSU is coming off a 21-4 season that ended in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The team returns 13 members of last season's squad, including all five starters and First-Team All-Summit selections Myah Selland, Tylee Irwin and Paiton Burckhard. The trio was recently named to the All-Summit League Preseason First Team with Selland being tabbed as the Preseason Player of the Year. The Jackrabbits were picked to finish second in the Summit League's Preseason Poll after winning the regular season title a season ago.
St. Cloud State went 12-6 last season and 7-3 in the NSIC's North Division action. The Huskies were the No. 2 seed in the NSIC postseason tournament and finished runner-up. They return their All-America Honorable Mention Tori Wortz, who averaged 14.7 points per game last season.
The Jacks and the Huskies will tip-off at 7 p.m.

SDSU GOLF... The SDSU men's golf team played 36 holes Monday at the Battle at Black Creek and sit seventh with one round remaining. Jack Tanner is four-under-par and tied for sixth place.
Tanner shot even par in the first round of the day and jumped 16 spots on the leaderboard after going four-under in round two. The junior tallied seven birdies in round two and is three shots off the top of the lead.
Jonah Dohrer had the next best score for the Jacks. He is only two strokes behind Tanner, tied for 15th with a 142 (-2) scorecard. Liam Georgiadis is tied for 28th place at +1, Matthew Schaefer is tied for 50th (+4) and Will Frazier is tied for 82nd (+12).

SDSU women's golf slipped to 11th place Tuesday after the second round of the Clash at Boulder Creek. Shakira-Ann Kuys had an even par finish on Tuesday's 18 holes to lead the Jackrabbits.
Kuys' overall score of 149 (77-72) has her in a tie for 21st on the leaderboard. Mia Seeman continues to pace the Jacks in th e overall standings despite a +6 day Tuesday. The senior is tied for 13th place at +4 and is only one shot off fifth place.
The Jackrabbit team holds a 612 (300-312) total score after needing 12 more shots than Monday's round.
Lani Potter is +10 overall, Hester Sicking is +17 and Piper Stubbs is +25.
Mia Seeman is the second most successful player on par 4 holes. She is averaging 3.95 strokes per par-4 hole at the event. SDSU has 22 total birdies at the event, the fifth highest total.

SDSU FB…Theo Day threw for 232 yards and a touchdown, Matthew Cook made four field goals, including a career-long 55-yarder, and Northern Iowa beat South Dakota State 26-17. Day was intercepted by Graham Spalding with 4:09 remaining in the fourth quarter but SDSU couldn’t capitalize as Cole Frahm missed a 47-yard field goal. UNI went three-and-out, but Bryce Flater sealed it with a quarterback sack. Day was 11 of 21 with an interception for Northern Iowa (4-3, 2-2 Missouri Valley Football Conference). Isaiah Weston caught four passes for 125 yards and a score, and Bradrick Shaw rushed for a touchdown.

STATE CHEER….Sioux Valley dominated the Cheer title for the program’s 15th crown, beating Dakota Valley 283.5 to 214. Winner Area (212), Deubrook Area (209) and Dell Rapids St. Mary (209) rounded out the top five.
Dakota Valley continued its dominance of Class A competitive dance, edging Beresford to win a 12th consecutive state title in the South Dakota State Competitive Cheer & Dance Championships, Friday in Brandon.
Dakota Valley scored 277 overall, a half-point ahead of newcomer Beresford (276.5). Tea Area (262.5), Winner Area
SDSU VB…South Dakota State hosted South Dakota Friday night at Frost Arena and fell 3-1 (14-25, 25-14, 15-25, 22-25) to the Coyotes. The Jackrabbits move to 12-9 on the season and 4-6 in Summit League contests. Crystal Burk registered a double-double, her 10th of the season, notching 17 kills to go with 12 digs. Stitt was just behind with 16 kills and had nine digs. The pair were also the most efficient Jackrabbits with Burk hitting at a .325 clip and Stitt just behind at .316. Tatum Pickar had 17 digs and Ella Thompson took part in four blocks, both team highs. Jasmine Weidemann tallied 37 assists and an ace serve. Stitt and Pickar added two assist apiece.
SELLAND...South Dakota State's Myah Selland has been named to the 2022 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Watch List.
Selland, a finalist for the award in 2021, was one of 25 women named to the 2022 watch list. She was picked as the Summit League Preseason Player of the Year earlier this month.
Selland led the Summit last season with 19.2 points per game and ranked third in assists per game (3.8), field goal percentage (.515) and assist/turnover ratio (1/5) on her way to WBCA Honorable Mention All-America accolades. She scored 15-plus points in 19 games and 20-plus points on six occasions.
