Weather station set up and ready to go for today’s hurricane landfall.

I have sensors outside, inside, and a wind gauge all relaying data back to me on my screen.

Definitely recommend La Crosse Technologies.

I’ll be adding a rainfall gauge next.

We didn't have a great pass last night of the International Space Station, but we were able to get what we could.

I'm expecting some much better passes and I'll pass along the images I get on here.

This is just really awesome, getting images from the ISS.

Once considered a nerdy basement hobby, lo-fi transmissions from ordinary folks save lives during wildfires, hurricanes, and other climate disasters.

Well, tonight I think I got my “furthest away” contact.

From here in SE Texas, I made contact with a station just south of Perth, Australia at a distance of 10.5K miles away.

The only way I would topple that is if I got a contact off in the ocean somewhere, or perhaps if I’m counting it down to the smallest distance possible, maybe a little closer to Perth, itself.

I checked out the furthest distance from me where people live, and it listed Perth. Picked up a couple other Aussie stations as well.

Edit: This was done via digi modes on 40 meters.

For those with scanners or radios capable of listening or operating on amateur radio frequencies, the Hurricane Watch Net has been activated and you will be able to hear reports and current conditions should other means become unavailable.

During the day, the frequency you can find them at, is 14.325 MHz, this is on the 20-meter band, and can be heard by going into upper sideband mode.

When day time propagation wanes, the net is moved to 40 meters, at 7.268 MHz, on lower sideband.

I will be on this net from time to time reporting as well. My call sign is AB5WX (Alpha Bravo Five Whiskey X-Ray).
