PRESIDENT KIIR MEETS DELEGATION FROM WORLD BANK TO DISCUSS DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday met with a delegation from World Bank led by Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa Region, Victoria Kwakwa to discuss development projects, programs and peace agreement.

The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Honorable Dier Tong Ngor noted that World Bank has been funding various projects in the fields of agriculture, energy, infrastructure as well as Economic empowerment programs for women.

Hon. Dier Tong Ngor said the government is committed to implementation of the Roadmap, adding that it will continue building strong partnership with the World Bank.

Victoria Kwakwa asserted that World Bank is commited to funding projects and programs to support South Sudan address its full potential.

Kwakwa also said South Sudan has enormous assets to achieve rapid economic growth and development for all the people.

She further revealed that International Finance Corporation, IFC a member of World Bank will facilitate private investment to help the country achieve peace dividend.

“It’s not only just about me, it’s [about] all my ancestors and all those people who helped me get to this place.”

Camille Friend is a third-generation hairstylist from Tempe, Arizona, who has been nominated for an Oscar for her work on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Camille grew up in her family’s salon and she knew she wanted to become a hairstylist from a very young age.

"Me and my cousins, we would shampoo each other’s hair. It’s something I’ve always loved. It’s glamorous, you can fix people and alter their appearance."

Camille has worked on several Marvel movies – including Captain America – but when she was offered to work on Black Panther, she hesitated.

“I wanted to do Avengers, because I wanted to do the biggest movie in Marvel. And then Samuel L. Jackson said to me: ‘Camille, [Black Panther] is going to be the biggest movie Marvel ever had! Girl, you gotta go over there and do that movie!’. So I went over there, like Samuel L. Jackson said, and did that movie, and it’s something that changed my life.”

Coming back to the set to film the Black Panther sequel was tough for Camille. She and the cast were grieving the death of lead actor Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020.

“[Black Panther director] Ryan Coogler took all the department heads to Chadwick’s funeral site to have our own service. We had drummers there. We all needed that, because when I first got there, I was really having a hard time getting past it. Once we had that moment, it was like, 'OK, we’re back to work.'”

The new movie centres around two strong and powerful women - Queen Ramonda, played by Angela Bassett, and her daughter Shuri, played by Letitia Wright. After T’Challa’s death, the destiny of the fictional country of Wakanda is in their hands. Camille says the hairstyles she created for them played a crucial role in the story telling.

Bandit attack in Kenya leaves South Sudanese student dead, other hospitalised

A deadly bandit attack took place along the Kitale-Lodwar road on Thurday, leaving one South Sudanese student dead and another hospitalized.

According to witnesses, a vehicle carrying 14 passengers was accosted by armed bandits approximately 5 km from the Kakong center, Turkana South in Kenya. The bandits shot at the vehicle, killing one passenger and injuring another.

The deceased, John Peter Emmanuel, a 23-year-old South Sudanese national and student at Friends School Kamusinga, was shot in the right rib and the bullet exited through the left rib, hitting another passenger, Nyachan Ruach, a South Sudanese female, in the right armpit.

Ruach has been stabilized at the Kakong dispensary and is awaiting referral to the Lodwar County referral hospital with the bullet still lodged in the armpit area.

According to a Kenyan government source in Lodwar, authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to bring the perpetrators to justice.
