World History facts

1. Nobody in Europe, Asia and Africa smoked to***co until the 16th century. To***co was first grown and smoked by native Americans, mainly for religious experiences.

2. Slavery has been abolished in various societies throughout history, but due to the persistence of forms of slavery and human trafficking in different forms and regions, its complete eradication has not been achieved globally.

3. The first passports were letters written by monarchs for their subject to guarantee safe passage, such as letters by Persian rulers. 🇮🇷

4. France 🇫🇷 was once under foreign rule for 1,100 years, which includes the Roman rule, the invasion of the Franks, Viking invasions and subsequent foreign invasions.

5. Potatoes were first cultivated in Peru 🇵🇪 .

6. The pyramids of Tikal were built during the Classic Period of the Maya civilization, specifically between the 4th and 8th centuries AD. Tikal is an ancient Mayan city located in present-day Guatemala 🇬🇹 , and its pyramids are among the most iconic and impressive structures of the Maya world. The construction of the pyramids at Tikal spanned several centuries, with different rulers contributing to their expansion and architectural grandeur. These pyramids served as ceremonial and religious centers and were integral to the cultural and political life of the ancient Maya.

7. Coca Cola originally used extracts of Kola nuts 🌰, a fruit original domesticated in West Africa (4000-5000 years ago).

8. John Hawkins, a English state-sponsored privateer, originally came to the West African coast to trade in pepper, Ivory, gold and wood, not to capture slaves and sell slaves. On his third voyage in 1567, Hawkins faced difficulties in acquiring desired goods and turned to capturing and enslaving Africans as an alternative means of obtaining valuable commodities. He transported the enslaved Africans to the Spanish colonies in the New World to sell them as slaves. This marked a turning point in his activities, and he began to prioritize the slave trade in subsequent voyages. While Hawkins did initially engage in trade for various goods, including pepper, ivory, gold, and wood, his participation in the slave trade became more prominent and profitable over time. This is the Africa where I was raised.

We did not have silos where seeds were preserved but we preserved seeds using natural means. By hanging the seeds up above the fireplace. They would be there properly preserved till the next planting season.

Fish and meats are equally preserved in the fireplace by hanging the iron gauze known as "ngiga" or locally fabricated basket known as "nkata" above the fireplace where the fire smokes the fish or meat dry.

That's the origin of the saying by our people that "it was the "house -rat" that informed the "bush-rat" that there is meat inside the basket hanged above the fireplace"

There was no cooking gas or kerosene but we utilized nature by cooking our meals with firewood.

The fireplace is kept neat by constant sweeping and by making sure that the Ashes are disposed of every morning and have it dumped at a place specifically prepared for it.

We did not have deep freezers or refrigerators but we preserve our food in different pots and have them close to the fireplace to keep them warm and preserved.

We did not have blowers or electric fan but we made the fire by blowing air into the fireplace with our mouth to ignite the fire or we blow with locally fabricated hand-fan.

THE TWO DAUGHTERS

Moral Story Of The Day.

A woman had two daughters of almost the same age. One had a blooming beautiful look with a healthy glowing skin. But the other looked pale and very malnourished. As it happened, she birthed one of the girls but the other was adopted.

Every weekend, the woman would bring the girls to a restaurant to eat. She would order chicken sandwiches and coconut ice cream for the blooming daughter but the ill-looking daughter got only a bottle of water.

At some point, the waiters in the restaurant noticed this and they became concerned. One morning, they discussed the issue.

"She's mean and wicked to that poor girl... What kind of a mother would treat a child so badly?" one of the waiters professed.

"I think the poor girl was adopted unlike the other, which could explain why she treats them differently. So heartbreaking" another waiter chipped in.

"We are the only ones who could save that child from a toxic mother. She really needs our help" the third waiter said.

The waiters then reported the issue to the restaurant manager who was a former 'child protective services' (CPS) worker. He contacted the police immediately. The police decided to wait until the woman's next visit to the restaurant.

The following weekend, the mother brought her girls to the restaurant as usual. But this time around, she was surprised when some policemen showed up and accused her of child abuse. She was utterly confused.

When the woman understood the situation, she requested the presence of all the waiters. Soon, everyone gathered including the restaurant manager. Then she began to speak.

"All of you have judged me without knowing the whole story... Yes, I have an adopted daughter but you don't even know who among them is the adopted one. Well, I would like to inform you that this sickly-looking girl here is actually the biological daughter. She was born with congenital heart disease, and has been sick all through her life. May I also inform you that she just went through a heart transplant few months ago? Now listen, I usually do not let her eat here because I know how detrimental these fast foods can be to her new heart. Your foods are healthy, but not healthy enough for a young girl with a donor's heart. So, I have taken it upon myself to always make special meals for her. My daughter is bravely fighting her illness and she will come out victorious. So, you all need to know that I love both my daughters so dearly, and I won't treat anyone less favourably".

Moral: Don't accuse a person without full understanding of the situation. Sometimes, the people you accuse or judge are the same people who could prove you wrong and teach you a valuable lesson.

The Richest Man in Babylon is a 1926 book by George S. Clason that dispenses financial advice through a collection of parables set 4,097 years ago in ancient Babylon. The book remains in print almost a century after the parables were originally published, and is regarded as a classic of personal financial advice.

The parables are told by a fictional Babylonian character called Arkad, a poor scribe who became the "richest man in Babylon". Included in Arkad's advice are the "Seven Cures" (or how to generate money and wealth), and the "Five Laws of Gold" (or how to protect and invest wealth). A core part of Arkad's advice is around "paying yourself first", "living within your means", "investing in what you know", the importance of "long-term saving", and "home ownership".

The seven cures are:
1. Start thy purse to fattening. Save money. Put aside 10% of your income every month.
2. Control thy expenditures. Don't spend more than you earn.
3. Make thy gold multiply. Invest your money wisely.
4. Guard thy treasures from loss. Protect your money from risk.
5. Make of thy dwelling a profitable investment. Own your home.

The five laws of gold are:

1. Avoid debt. Debt is a financial trap.
2. Invest for the long term. Don't try to get rich quick.
3. Diversify your investments. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
4. Reinvest your earnings. Let your money make more money.
5. Pay yourself first. Put aside money for your future before you spend anything else.

The Richest Man in Babylon is a timeless classic that offers practical advice on how to build wealth and achieve financial security. The parables are easy to understand and the advice is sound.
