Known for its avant garde releases, Not Two was created in 1998 and began by releasing straight-ahead sessions by Polish musicians. Since around 2002, Not Two have recorded almost exclusively avant garde musicians. A host of most significant contemporary jazz players have graced Not Two catalog, including: David Murray, Ken Vandermark, Sonny Simmons, Michael Marcus, Daniel Carter, Gebhard Ullmann,

Steve Swell, Sirone, Anthony Braxton, ROVA, Szilard Mezei , Satoko Fujii, Joe Morris, Mats Gustafsson, Tomas Fujiwara and Taylor Ho Bynum, Joe McPhee, Rodrigo Amado. At the same time Not Two continue to record and release most progressive avant garde players from contemporary jazz scene in Poland. One of the most striking things about the releases on Not Two is the fact that they come packaged in lavish five-inch gatefold cardboard sleeves, laminated and pasted together with crisp and often rather abstract graphics. These are some of the most striking and creative CD that although inspired, by Japanese CD covers, come with a clarity and presence all their own. The growing impact that Not Two is having on the contemporary Jazz and Improvised Music scene, derives from the philosophy, which NotTwo founder Marek Winiarski puts this way: "My philosophy is very simple. I want to release music that I really like, even if I know from the very beginning that I lose money. I feel that especially important is mixing of musicians from various countries and traditions - there is always a chance to get great results".

Norris Sirone Jones (Sirone) is remembered as a pioneering figure in the avant-garde jazz movement of the 1960s. He was known for his innovative and experimental approach to the bass, which often incorporated elements of free jazz and other musical styles. He was a founding member of The New York Art Quartet, one of the first groups to incorporate avant-garde elements into traditional jazz structures. Through his work with the group and his solo projects, Jones helped to shape the sound of avant-garde jazz and influence generations of musicians who followed in his footsteps. Today, he is remembered as a visionary and innovative musician who pushed the boundaries of jazz and helped to shape the direction of modern music. Barry Guy is an English composer, band leader and a bass player whose creative diversity in the fields of Jazz improvisation, solo recitals, chamber and orchestral performance is the outcome both of an unusually varied training and a zest for experimentation, underpinned by a dedication to the double bass and the ideal of musical communication.

In early 1970s Barry founded the London Jazz Composers Orchestra and since then serves as its Artistic Director.

Not Two Records is proud to present two new box-sets documenting Barry's artistic residencies in Kraków in 2018 and 2020.
