๐“๐ก๐ž ๐๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐งโ€™๐ฌ ๐…๐ฎ๐ž๐ฅ | A shot from a pistol took an exile when he set foot in his motherland for the first time in three years. He became the fuel that made the nation realize the hands shackling the land they swore to protect. The nationโ€™s revolt overpowered the dictator, with no other choice but to flee. At last, the Philippines broke free from the iron hands.
The implementation of the Martial Law enforced the authoritarian dictatorship of the reigning administration, which deprived the Filipinos of freedom. The journalists were silenced for voicing out the truth. Human rights were deprived of the activists who sought to prevail democracy. Tens of thousands of our countrymen faced unjust treatment, all because greed took over the head of the State.
When the Filipino nation took over, no man could pacify them. Not only did they yearn for freedom, but they also demanded justice to heal their wounds and assurance to hear their cries. They have an enkindled passion to fuel their loyalty to their home. They turned things into the new light. The privilege for democratic freedom that our nation enjoys today is attributed to the Filipinoโ€™s hearts that burned every ounce of the fuel to realize its dreams,to be a free nation.

๐๐„๐–๐’ | IIEE TC, UAE aids TSU SC with TESDA Certs, PEC Books

The IIEE TSU SC tapped with their Tarlac Chapter (TC) to get their constituents TESDA certification and training, and with the United Arab Emirates Chapter (UAEC) that donated two sets of Philippine Electrical Code books.

With the help of IIEE TC, 25 students from the EE department enrolled in TESDA Electrical Installation and Maintenance NC2 program in the span of 10 days, IIEE TSU SC Pres Joel Rombaoa said that they learned technical skills that are vital in the field of electrical engineering.

"I've learned a lot about the EIM NC2 program. I have learned some theories that I know are connected with Electrical engineering subjects. Yung 10 days training lahat yun all hands on even babae need dapat kumikilos bawal ang tamad kasi nakikita ng trainors if we are really willing to learn from them. From being safe to proper intallations of wire and switches, proper installation of conduits, and lightings," Rombaoa said.

Meanwhile, IIEE UAEC donated two sets of Philippine Electrical Code books containing both Part 1 and 2 which will be beneficial for 4th year students in the BSEE programs.

The books will be available to be borrowed in the library, according to IIEE TSU SC Adviser Engr. Maan B. Florendo. She also said that the COE now mulls signing a memorandum of agreement with IIEE UAEC for possible collaboration in research and extension program.

Looking forward, the IIEE TSU SC intends to remain close to its professional chapters to further benefit from programs like these which are all significant in both the academic and professional growth of its constituents.

Dormers can now conduct online classes in their homes instead of their dormitories as the implementation of online classes changed from one day a week to one week a month, addressing concerns about the former policy not being effective enough to enhance work-life balance for students and faculties alike.

The Alternative Work Schedule will set the first week of each remaining month for this semester for online classes. The remaining week for August will be for information dissemination and class orientation for the newly implemented policy.

After two years, Dr. Miriam S. Galvez of the EE/ECE department has again taken the helm as the Dean of the College of Engineering as part of TSUโ€™s reconstitution that aims to build back previous changes in the universityโ€™s various arms and offices.

Shortly after her return on July 30, Dr. Galvez has already tackled administrative tasks in enrollment: welcoming freshmen and orienting in regards with the newly created TSUโ€™s Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) for the Opt-to-pay in the universal free tertiary education act.

Last Thursday, Galvez welcomed engineering freshmen to their college orientation at the TSU Gymnasium in the morning and spearheaded the Opt-to-Pay IRR orientation at the COE AVR in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the college is prepping up to change the engineering uniform, according to COE SC Gov. Brixter Millo.

From a pure white polo shirt with TSU logo, the new uniform will have maroon-colored collar and sleeves lining that strives to represent the collegeโ€™s motif more prominently.

Millo said that the uniform will only be implemented starting this academic year which would become available around September in TSUโ€™s business center.

He also said that students in higher years are not required to buy these new uniforms, โ€œMas prio[rity] pong ma-implement ang new unif[orm] sa mga freshies pero PWEDE naman daw pong bumili ang mga higher year, 300 pesos po per piece.โ€

Still, white tops are required for engineering freshmen until the new uniform becomes available.

๐๐„๐–๐’ | COE-SC to center on Initiatives for Studes, to address Past Challenges

The COE Student Council (COESC) said that they are prioritizing student-centered projects and activities in their General Plan of Action (GPOA) for the 2024-2025 academic year, and their primary goal is to enhance student well-being and academic success through a range of targeted initiatives.

After reviewing last yearโ€™s plans, they said that they selected all the most viable projects, and allocated their budget accordingly to ensure efficient use of resources.

They have come up with initiatives in their GPOA that emphasize supporting students by providing necessary materials for engineering courses like the COE tool box, raising awareness about important causes like the HIV and AIDS in their COErageous Conversation, and alleviating academic stress with events like the socialization night and TAKBO COE fun run.

Additionally, they will provide transparent financial statements to students through their Project Transparency and Audit initiative, ensuring clear and open communication about financial matters.

Addressing challenges faced by the previous council, including issues with misplaced documents that led to missed activities, newly appointed Governor Brixter Millo assured that they have developed backup plans to prevent similar problems.

Millo stated in a virtual interview with The Stentorian, โ€œItโ€™s essential for us to anticipate potential issues and prepare accordingly. Our goal is to successfully implement these projects and activities for the benefit of our fellow students.โ€

The COESC aims to execute, if not a hundred, about 80 to 90 percent of the projects outlined in their GPOA, striving to maximize student engagement and enjoyment, for as said by Millo, they believe that the students deserve these initiatives.

๐๐„๐–๐’ | TSU-C with COE Studes wins 2 Golds at TICC โ€˜24

Five COE students participated in the Tarlac State University Choraleโ€™s (TSU-C) historic win after bagging two gold medals at the Taipei International Choral Competition 2024.

Competing against 55 groups from Taiwan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and the Philippines, TSU-C secured gold medals in both the Musica Sacra and Contemporary Music categories last July 30 to August 2.

Zyren Cindy Manialong, the section leader of the soprano, and a civil engineering student shared that even though their competitors are good in technical aspects, what made them win is their heart-felt performances that moved the audiences.

โ€œItโ€™s a collaborative effort between all the members, we listen to each other because in that way we can learn from each other, and also, two things that we, engineering students contributed are our voice and presenceโ€ Manialong said.

They won Musica Sacra with their performances of โ€œAma Mi,โ€ โ€œEternidad,โ€ and โ€œSanto Sanctus,โ€ arranged by Gilbert Dispo, Jeremiah Calinsang, and Chino Toledo, while their Contemporary Music gold came from their rendition of โ€œAwit Panginoonโ€, and โ€œKa Isa Niyan,โ€ arranged by Robin Estrada and Nilo Alcala, and โ€œDaluyong,โ€ written by Joey Vargas and arranged by Ily Matthew Maniano.

While they did not win the Grand Prix in which they qualified after winning two golds, the team is still grateful for their achievements and experiences.

The TSU-C COE students who contributed to this success are Princess Erica De Veyra, Maria Viktoria Tagadtad, Ian Rigiaron De Jesus, Febbie Manalang, and Zyren Cindy Manialong.
