TWO STUDENT JOURNALISTS OF SMIH HAVE GRADUATED IN SHS WITH HONORS AND WITH HIGH HONORS

These two young journalists from Casiguran Technical Vocational School (CTVS) have proven that being a journalist is not a hindrance to making it to the top. They were one of the graduates yesterday, July 14, on the 6th Graduation Rites of CTVS, held in Casiguran Gym.

Harvy A. Ramirez, a STEM student, received the Research and Innovation Award, Capstone Research Life Science Category (2nd placer), and With Honors. The other one is Ma. Denilyn G. Gualvez, a STEM student, also received the Research and Innovation Award, the Leadership Award, the Life and Science Research Category (1st Placer), and high honors.

They had a big contribution in our organization for the past 9 months since we started, Harvy is the Associate Editor of SMIH (English Category) and Denilyn is the Associate Editor (Filipino Category).

The SMIH community congratulates Harvy Afable Ramirez and Ma Denilyn Gualvez on their outstanding accomplishments and wishes them continued success in their future endeavors. Their achievements serve as an inspiration to aspiring scholars, highlighting the importance of hard work, dedication, and a passion for knowledge in the pursuit of excellence. April 25, 2023.
Deped Bicol echoed the Department of Education's (DepEd) memorandum allowing schools within Region 5 to implement modular mode of learning for students due to the risk of heat-related illnesses because of the extreme temperature currently facing our country.

Regional Memorandum 56, s. 2023 dated April 25, 2022 was based on the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warning about the expected increase of temperature within the country. according to PAGASA the heat indexes ranging from 42ºC and 51ºC which may cause danger to the students and school employees if in-person classes are to continue. Among the dangers are heat stroke, heat exhaustion and heat cramps which may pose serious threat towards the students' mental and physical well-being.

Regional Director Gilbert T. Sadsad of Deped Region V addressed the said memo to all Schools Division Superintendents, and School Heads in public and private schools.

Sadsad mentioned in the memo that it is not only to protect the students but the teachers, as well. The said memo also contains details on leniency with students' clothing, and other relevant instructions for implementors of the modular or distance learning modality such as teachers and other Deped personnel.

Casiguran Technical Vocational School conducted several consultation with the General Parents-Teachers Association and Faculty Meetings to discuss the impact of the spike of temperature to students and ways on how the modular classes will be implemented. CTVS will start implementing these said changes to modular classes on May 2, 2023 and wil end up to June 5, 2023.

The Office of Assistant Secretary for Operations (OASPs) of the Department of Education reiterates the authority and responsibility of school heads to suspend classes and implement modular classes in cases of extreme climate conditions to protect the well-being of the students in a memorandum dated April 20, 2023.

Francis Cesar B. Bringas, current Deped Assistant Secretary for Operation released said OASPs memo 2023-077 addressed to all Regional Directors, Schools Divisions Superintendent and School Heads in particular, in accordance with DepEd Order No. 37, s. 2022 which states the guidelines for the suspension of classes and the implementation of modular Distance Learning.

Said Memo is in relation to the report of PAGASA last March 21, 2023 about the beginning of the hot and dry season in which the weather is expected to be much warmer.

The said memo particularly stressed the responsibility and authority of the school heads to suspend face to face classes and implement modular distance learning mode in cases of unfavorable weather and environment.

On the same date of the issuance of the said memorandum, more than a dozen students of Casiguran Technical Vocational School fainted because of the hot weather. Most of those students were rushed to the nearby hospital and were given immediate medical attention.

The Department of Health (DOH) in the Philippines has launched a national mental health crisis hotline to provide immediate assistance to individuals in need of mental health support. The hotline is a free and confidential service available 24/7, which can connect callers to mental health professionals who can provide crisis intervention, counseling, and referrals to local mental health services.

The hotline is staffed by trained mental health professionals who can provide support to callers experiencing mental health crises, including suicidal thoughts, panic attacks, or intense emotions. They can also provide guidance to those who may be struggling with substance abuse, trauma, or other mental health issues.

Sinurpresa ni Naths, Viva Entertainment Artist, ang mga staff ng Student Media Information Hub sa Casiguran Arch, Abril 3, 2023.

Ginulat ng nasabing Viva artist, na isa ring kilalang DJ sa MOR 101.9 Radio, singer at hosts ng ibat ibang programs, ang mga miyembro ng SMIH nang bisitahin nya ang mga ito sa Casiguran Arch kung saan ginaganap ang pictorials ng nasabing pangkat.

"Nagulat ako at the same time sobrang saya kasi hindi ko talaga inexpect na pupunta siya and masaya ako kasi nag effort sila just to meet us." Ani, Jean Irene Ramos, Grade 9 staff ng SMIH.

Ipinaliwanag ng nasabing Artist sa mga na surpresang batang mamahayag ng SMIH na ang kanilang pakay sa pagpunta at pagbisita ay ang makadaupang palad ang kanilang napiling high school na tutulungan at kanyang binigyang diin na pokus ang pagsuporta nila sa edukasyon ng mga mag-aaral gaya ng nasabing grupo.

"magkakaroon ng workshop at mall show sa 25th of April and hopefully maraming mag join sainyo" dagdag pa ng nasabing artist.

Ibinahagi rin ni Tony Japon-Bungcag II, SMIH adviser, ang ilang napagusapan nila ni Naths, at humiling siya na sana ay,

"at least kalahati ng miyembro ng SMIH ay makasama sa workshop at mabigyan ng laptop o desktop ang ating grupo".

Ang SMIH isa sa dalawang grupo ng mga mag aaral sa Sorsogon napili ng Viva Entertainment sa pamamagitan ni Naths upang maging beneficiaryo ng kanilang adbokasiya para sa mga kabataang nag aaral sa high school sa ibat ibang probinsya at lungsod sa buong Pilipinas.

In a recent advisory released by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), a minor sea-level disturbance has been reported in the offshore area of Gigmoto, Catanduanes. According to Tsunami Information No. 1, the disturbance was recorded at 8:54 PM on April 4, 2023.

The magnitude of the sea-level disturbance was measured at 6.6, with a depth of 9 kilometers. The epicenter of the disturbance was located at 13.76°N, 125.51°E in the offshore area of Gigmoto. Despite the relatively low magnitude of the event, PHIVOLCS has issued a tsunami advisory as a precautionary measure.

The agency has urged the public to remain calm and vigilant, and to stay tuned for updates and further information. PHIVOLCS has also advised local authorities in the affected areas to prepare and implement necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the residents.

As of this writing, there have been no reports of damage or casualties resulting from the sea-level disturbance. However, the public is still advised to take all necessary precautions and to heed the advice of local authorities.

PHIVOLCS continues to closely monitor the situation and will provide updates as soon as they become available. The agency has also reminded the public to be always prepared for any natural disasters and to stay informed through reliable sources

Nagdulot ng saya at pag-asa ang ginawang pagbisita ng Viva Entertainment artist na si Naths sa mga estudyante sa Special Program for the Arts (SPA)at Arts and Design ng Sorsogon National High School nitong April 3, 2023 sa Lobby ng Main Building ng nabanggit na paaralan.

Sa isang maiksing programa na ginanap sa looby ng nasabing paaralan ay nag bigay ng dalawang popular na kanta ang nasabing talent na siyang kinagiliwan at ikinakilig ng mga mag-aaral na dumalo. Kanya ring binigyang pag-asa ang mga mag-aaral sa pagsabing ang Viva Entertainment ay nakahandang tumulong sa kanila una na dito ang workshop sa pag-arte, pag-awit, pagsayaw, at pag-host ng mga programa at pamamahayag.

Kaugnay nito ay tumawag si Naths ng isa sa mga dumalo at humiling na magbigay ng on-the-spot report kagaya ng mga ginagawa sa ABS-CBN TV Patrol at buong husay naman itong pinaunlakan ng nasabing mag-aaral.

Sa nasabing pagtitipon ay nagbigay din ng kaunting kaalaman si Tony Japon- Bungcag II, SMIH adviser ukol sa Special Advocacy Program ng Viva na may relasyon sa edukasyon ng mga kabataan.

" Naghahanap talaga ang Viva ng matutulungan grupo ng mga students at ang napili nila ay ang ilang organization sa Casiguran Technical Vocational School at Sorsogon National High School", aniya.

Nabuhay naman ang pag-asa sa puso ng mga g**o at coordinators ng nasabing paaralan ng malaman ang tulong na dadalhin sa kanila ng Viva Entertainment para maibigay ang kanilang pangangailangan sa teatro ng paaralan.

" marami kaming kaylangan na gamit gaya ng lapels para sa coming recitals ng mga bata..pero ang priority namin ay magkaroon ng workshop sila sa acting..." ani pa ng isa sa mga g**o.

Tiniyak ni Naths na makakarating ito sa kanilang management ang kanilang kahilingan na labis naman ikinagalak ng lahat ng nasa pagtitipon.

Matapos ang maigsing programa ay tumuloy ang grupo ng nasabing aktor sa Casiguran, Sorsogon upang makita at makilala naman ang mga mag-aaral na kabilang sa Student Media Information Hub na lahat nag-aaral sa Casiguran Technical Vocational School.

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 struck Catanduanes, a province in the Bicol region of the Philippines, on April 4, 2023, at 08:54 PM local time. The quake's epicenter was located 120 kilometers south-southeast of Gigmoto, and had a depth of 9 kilometers.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the earthquake was felt at various intensities across the region. The instrumentally measured intensities were as follows: Intensity IV in San Jorge, Samar, and Intensity II in Legazpi City, Legaspi, Albay, Daet, Camarines Norte, Sipocot, Iriga City, Pili, Camarines Sur, Kananga, Dulag, Abuyog, Leyte, San Roque, Northern Samar, Bulusan, and Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon. Meanwhile, the reported intensity in Palo, Leyte was II.

Additionally, PHIVOLCS reported that Intensity I was felt in several other areas, including Ragay, Pasacao, Camarines Sur, Quinapondan, Eastern Samar, Palo, Alangalang, Leyte, Monreal, Uson, Masbate, Gumaca, Polillo, Mauban, Guinayangan, Quezon, and Donsol, Sorsogon.

Mayor Minez Hamor of Casiguran Town, Sorsogon Province bared her plans to improve the Arch, a popular landmark in the said town in her message to the SMIH Adviser, March 29, 2023.

Her revelation was a reply to the inquiry about the on-going clean up drive and repainting of the said Arch and the adjacent statue of the Virgin Mary.

With the increasing popularity of the place, the mayor's plan does not only focus on the protection and improvement of the place but also to uplift the economic situation of the vendors and the community in the vicinity.

"Dahil sa Mama Mary and sa Arch natin dumadayo ang mga tao. Since madaming dayo madaming umuusbong na small businesses na nakakatulong sa mga kababayan natin sa pang araw araw nila tulad ng mga nagbebenta ng mga fish ball, siomai, siopao at iba pa."

The improvement of the place is not limited to the repainting of the Arch but also of beautifying the said area to sustain its popularity.

"Within this year malalagyan na ang 11,000 roses, una ito sa buong Sorsogon sa pier sa tabi ng PNP. Inaasahan namin na mas dadami pa ang mga bibisita satin. Ipakita naman natin na maayos tayo.", the Mayor stated.

To protect the said landmarks from vandals and promote security in the place, the Mayor plans to install Close Circuit cameras in the nearby houses.

"In the next few years po sir papalagyan natin ang pabahay ng mga cctv kasabay po yan. Ginawa po yang mga projects natin para maboost ang ating tourism. Pinagastusan at Kailangan ingatan. Sayang ang pera naipundar para dyan na dapat sana nagamit sa ibang bagay.", she added.

SNHS YOUNG ARTISTS SHINE AT A DINNER CONCERT FOR A CAUSE

Arts and Designs Students of Sorsogon National High School dazzled the audience with their performance at the "Babayi asin Byahe nin Obra Art Exhibit and Dinner Concert last night, at the SNHS Main Building Lobby, March 31, 2023.

Led by Maricris Labandoy and Glen Sentes, teachers of said school, the selected A & D students wowed the audience of their first concert with their songs, dances, music and spoken poetry.

Despite the short time to prepare the said Senior High School future artists proved the talents and abilities in front of the audience who supported their maiden performance.

" Almost a week lang ang training namin, pero talagang binigay naman nila ang best nila, " Ms. Labandoy said in an after the concert interview.

Mr. Sentes, her co-director-cum trainer in the said affair clarified that they have conceptualized it to be able to buy needed instruments and hopefully have an Arts and Theatre Hub in the near future.

Mr. Mike Uy, SNHS Principal, lauded the young artists and encouraged them to pursue and persist.

"Don't be afraid to be an artist", he said.

A parent who watched the said concert agree with the words of the principal of the said school.

"Maganda ang outcome tonight, at mag-iimprove pa sila."

Sentes said that due to public demand particularly from other students who missed the paid event, another concert will be done by the said group in with very minimal ticket fee of 20 to 50 pesos. He added that in the upcoming concert, the parents of A & D students and the participants of the said events will no longer pay for their ticket.

Several guests were present during the affair including Jan Aldrin Belisario, President & Founding Creative Director of Dawani Project and Tony Japon-bungcag II, SMIH adviser.

MAGALLANES NHS - SSG SPEARHEADS SCHOOL CLEAN-UP DRIVE

The Magallanes National High School Supreme Students Government spearheaded the school's effort to maintain the cleanliness of school surrounding through a Clean Up Drive last March 17, 2023 at their school campus.

John Raniel Ortega, President of MNHS-SSG, initiated and encouraged the cooperation of other students organization in the said school namely; Science Club, Yes-O, and Barkada Kontra Droga during the said activity.

In a message to SMIH, the MNHS-SSG stated that they hope to inspire future generation to take care of the beautiful environment.

Ms. Celeste Carrascal, SSG Adviser said that the Clean Up Drive continues every Friday after Classes.

DEPED CONDEMNS COMMUNIST TERRORIST ATTACKS IN MASBATE, VOWS TO ENSURE LEARNING CONTINUITY

Masbate Province in the Philippines has been rocked by a spate of terrorist attacks perpetrated by the New People's Army (NPA). The Department of Education (DepEd) has issued a formal statement denouncing these terrorist attacks and assuring the public that learning will continue despite the difficulties.

Mahigit (26) dalampu't anim na mag-aaral mula sa Manlabong National High School ang bumisita sa Casiguran Technical Vocational School kaugnay sa isagawa nilang "Lakbay-Aral" Educational Bench Marking Activity ngayong Marso 21, 2023.

Lulan ng isang modern jeepney, ang mga mag aaral kasama si G. Rolan Nedia, kasalukuyang Principal ng MNHS, ay naglibot sa binisitang paaralan upang makita kung paano ang pagkakaayos ng mga Technology And Vocational Learning laboratory at ang pagtuturo ng ibang TVL teachers sa CTVS.

Ayon sa nasabing principal ay bibisita rin sila sa Gubat National High School pagkatapos nila sa CTVS ng araw ring iyon.

Si G. Nedia ay dating Senior High School Assistant Principal na CTVS at naglingkod din bilang g**o sa nabanggit na paaralan.

SORSOGON NHS WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM REPRESENTING SORSOGON CITY ADVANCES FOR THE UPCOMING BICOL MEET AFTER SUBDUING MASBATE CITY

Sorsogon City Women's Volleyball Team won against Masbate City in the Regional Invitational Cluster Qualifying Meet, 3-0, at Casiguran Central School Covered Court, March 18, 2023.

Sorsogon City showed their intense desire to scrounge the victory, surpassing Masbate City in just three sets, ending with 25-16 in the last set of the thrilling match.

CHAMPIONSHIP MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: SORSOGON PROVINCE CLINCHES THE GOLD AGAINST MASBATE PROVINCE

The scrimmage of the different teams became hot in the Volleyball Men's Category game held at the Central Casiguran Gymnasium this March 18, 2023. Sorsogon Province team did not waver in their struggle against Masbate Province and relentlessly overcame their opponent till the third set of the championship match.

Sorsogon Province crushed their opponent and won with a score of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-19 and claimed the Championship Title in the Volleyball Men's Category game.

CHAMPIONSHIP: SORSOGON CITY'S VILLANUEVA RAGING BULLS DEMOLISH MASBATE PROVINCE'S MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM IN A 107-81 VICTORY

The Villanueva Raging Bulls claimed their throne as they completely destroyed the Masbate Province Men's Basketball Team in the championship match of the Regional Clustered and Invitational Selection Meet 2023 held at Casiguran Gymnasium, March 18, 2023.

Both teams went head-to-head in an intense back-and-forth match in the finals. In the first quarter of the game, Masbate Province seemed to have momentum as they went on an early 16-9 run against the Raging Bulls. The Bulls didn't back down, scoring nine straight points in the last three minutes of the quarter to stop the bleeding. However, Masbate Province answered the Bulls' scoring run as they tallied 6 more points to end the quarter. The first ends 22-18 in favor of Masbate Province.

Entering the second period, Masbate Province still had the momentum as they kept on punishing the Bulls inside the paint, penetrating their opponents interior defense while also grabbing tons of offensive rebounds. In the last 5 minutes of the half, the Raging Bulls once again went blazing hot, as they tallied a 10-2 run to claim the lead to end the second period. The quarter ends 47-45 in favor of the Raging Bulls.

The Villanueva Raging Bulls took over in the last and final quarter as their interior defense adjusted, locking down their opponents and limiting Masbate Province's score to only 3 points while outscoring them by 24 points in the quarter. The intense finals match ends 107-81, in favor of the Raging Bulls.

Kian Gocalin and Rex Gata combined for 57 points as they throttled their team to a finals victory.
