𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐄𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬! 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐊𝐢𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞

The National Kidney Awareness Week, celebrated annually during the first week of September, gives us a chance to be informed about the importance of taking care of our kidney health by raising awareness about kidney disease.

The kidneys are tiny bean-shaped organs that play a crucial role in the body by filtering wastes and excess fluids through their functional units, the nephrons. They filter the blood and balance electrolytes to ensure the proper function of other organs. They also maintain blood osmolarity, ultimately regulating blood pressure.

As remarkable as the kidneys are, data obtained from the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) reveals that approximately 120 Filipinos per million develop chronic renal failure every year. This translates to roughly one Filipino developing the disease every hour. This further emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about this vital organ, as renal diseases are the 7th leading cause of mortality in our country.

Let's all take a moment to appreciate all the hard work our kidneys have done for us. Take care of your kidneys by consuming foods that won't harm them and only those benefit your kidney health. As much as we enjoy joking about selling our kidneys, let's embrace and take care of the only pair we have.

𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐂𝐎𝐍 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐚𝐧 𝐎𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐘 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒-𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓

As another academic year begins, the College of Nursing (CON) has prepared a series of events for the freshmen. Along with these was the Oath-Taking Ceremony for the CON Organizations, which helped formally start the new academic year.

The ceremony took place last Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Six (6) organizations, namely the Knightingale Society (KS), Unang Hakbang (UH), Lydians United Nursing Giocoso Singers (LUNGS), Pacemaker All-Stars (PMAS), Red Cross Youth Council (RCYC), and The Nurses' Notes (NN), participated in the event, alongside the CON Local Student Council (CON LSC) of the college, which spearheaded the program.

The event began with opening remarks from the Program Chair of the College of Nursing, Mrs. Mart Juaresa C. Yambao, RN, MAN, who warmly welcomed the new officers and expressed her trust in their ability to lead their respective organizations and the CON community. The chairpersons, officers, and their respective advisers from each organization attended the ceremony. During the program, the chairpersons presented their plans and projects for the college for this academic year and introduced the new batch of officers who will lead each organization.

For the key part of the ceremony, the oath-taking, Ms. Gwyne Shenette Karylle Noscal, CON Ambassador of the Office of Student Organization and Activities (OSOA), led the formal local oath-taking of the organizations, including the LSC of the college.

The ceremony concluded with a closing speech by one of the CON LSC advisers, Ms. Josefina C. Reyes, RN, MAN. She expressed that may every organization would unite together, avoiding the idea of competition. To kick off the new academic year with a bang, the local student councils of the College of Nursing (CON), College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT), College of Industrial Technology (CIT), and College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP), came together to organize a concert titled “Dulo't Dulo: Kahit Saan, Bahagi Ka ng Malay, Malaya at Mapagpalayang Pamantasan." Held on August 27, 2024 (Tuesday), in front of the BulSU Activity Center, the event brought together students from across the campus for a day of music, fun, and celebration.

The afternoon began with a formal tone as the National Anthem and BulSu Hymn were sung, setting the stage for what would soon be an exhilarating program. Once the official opening concluded, the energy immediately surged with the first performance of the day by the CBR Band from CIT. Their dynamic set got the crowd buzzing, and the mood was lifted even higher by some icebreaker activities that kept the excitement going.

Next up, representing CON, the LUNGS Band took the stage and showcased their musical talents, captivating the audience with their performance. The momentum continued to build as the Pacemaker All Stars wowed the crowd with a dazzling dance performance that brought the energy to another level.

Following CON’s showcase, the spotlight shifted to CSSP with a powerful performance by the Black Keys. Their vibrant tunes had the crowd on their feet, and the energy didn't wane as CICT followed up with two standout acts—the CTRL+S Band and the Concord Band—both of which delivered electrifying performances that kept the audience engaged.

Then came the concert’s big surprise: the introduction of the special guest, Like Le Jade (Mx. Jolo Miranda - BulSU Drag Superstar 2023). Anticipation filled the air as the popular act started their first song. Just as the crowd was getting into the groove, suspense was built when the performance was briefly interrupted, making way for a captivating set by the CSSP Band. Finally, Le Jade returned to the stage to finish their performance, much to the delight of the enthusiastic audience.

As the concert drew to a close, the master of ceremonies, Migo Villavicencio (from CSSP), took the mic to deliver heartfelt closing remarks. He thanked everyone for attending and contributing to the success of the event. The concert wrapped up with a photo opportunity, capturing the smiles and memories of a fantastic day.

Last August 27, 2024 (Tuesday), the BulSU - CON LSC hosted a vibrant organization fair at Pimentel Grounds, featuring the different student organizations within the College of Nursing (CON). The event also supported nursing students who own small businesses by offering them a platform to showcase their products.

Various organizations prepared different tricks to persuade the students to join their organizations. The said event was then visited by the CON students, especially the freshmen who are encouraged to be members of the different organizations of the college.

It was also a successful day for the small business owners as their products were enjoyed and sold to the CON students and also to different students of the BulSU community.|| Patricia Mae Talao, NN

Kilala siya bilang isang dakilang propagandista na matapang na nilabanan ang mga prayleng espanyol gamit ang kaniyang husay sa pagsusulat noong panahon ng kanilang pananakop gamit ang Pen Name na “Plaridel”. Siya rin ang nagtatag ng Diariong Tagalog at nagsilbing editor ng “La Solidaridad”.

Sa paggunita natin ng kaniyang kaarawan ay kasabay rin nito ang pag-alala natin sa kaniyang pinakitang tapang para sa mahal na bayan.

“Mariin po naming pinabubulaanan ang mga balitang ito. Ang lahat ng mga nabanggit na insidente ay walang batayan at likha lamang ng mga indibidwal o grupo na naglalayong magdulot ng takot sa ating mga kababayan, lalo na sa mga magulang at estudyante dito sa Probinsya ng Bulacan,” ani ng pulisya sa kanilang pahayag.

Gayun pa man, patuloy pa rin ang imbestigasyon ng pulisya tungkol sa mga nasabing insidente at sa pinagmulan ng mga impormasyong ito. Kaugnay nito, hinihikayat rin ang bawat isa na maging responsable at suriing mabuti ang mga impormasyon at balitang kumakalat sa social media.

Bulacan State University (BulSU) College of Nursing (CON) hosted its 19th Capping, Pinning, and Candle Lighting (CPCL) Ceremony last August 23, 2024, at Valencia Hall, Bulacan State University with a theme: “Flames Aglow, Hearts Alight: Igniting the Voice of Resilience in Future Nurses.”

The event began with a procession of second-year students from the Malolos and San Rafael campuses, together with their parents, CON faculty members, university administrators, and guests.

Rev. Fr. Howard John P. Tarrayo opened the ceremony with a mass, emphasizing that nursing is not just a profession; it is an act of service fueled by love rather than any cost of money.

BulSU-CON Dean Magdalena D. Soyosa, MAN, RN, presented the level 2 students who were to receive their caps and pins. In her speech, she highlighted that the cap and pin are not just recognizing the achievements of the students, but also igniting their voice for leadership and advocacy for those in need.

Dr. Eduardo G. Valcos, Campus Dean of San Rafael Campus delivered BulSU President Dr. Teody San Andres congratulatory message. In his message he expressed his inspirational thoughts to the students, stating, “Excellence in the nursing profession is not only measured by skills and knowledge but by strength of heart and compassion for others.”

Guest speaker Dr. Elmer D. Bondoc, National President of the Philippine Nurses Association Inc., left a message for the students reminding them to serve the country first before seeking for better opportunities abroad, citing the critical shortage of nurses in the Philippines. He emphasized that "Philippine healthcare will die without nurses."

This was followed by the entrance of Ms. Jancel G. Dave of BSN 4E, this year’s lady with a lamp, and the founder of Modern Nursing, Florence Nightingale, followed by the imposition of caps and pins.

Afterward, level 2 students spearheaded by Mrs. Jane Marie Sumodlayon, MAN, RN Faculty of BulSU-CON, while their lamps lighted by Ms. Dave took an oath as they recited the nightingale’s pledge.

Acknowledgments were delivered by the Overall Faculty and Student Chairman of this year’s CPCL, Mr. Xymon Concepcion, and the Program Chair of BulSU-CON, Mrs. Mart Juaresa C. Yambao, MAN, RN. They thanked all the people behind the success of this event.

As the finale, a same-day edit video was played, and closing remarks from Mr. Mark Ronald De Leon, MAN, RN, were delivered.

𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐀 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦: 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞

From the child looking across the horizon, a brewing excitement gleams - a proof of undying passion and chasing one’s dreams and aspirations.

Stepping into the world of college felt like stepping a foot into a whole new world. New places and faces. With trembling knees and a mind filled with uncertainties under the banner of “College Student”, which is a testament of a new journey.

A leap of faith is needed to start new conversations with people you barely know. Scared and somehow intimidated, the first few days are all about knowing others and making yourself comfortable. It is a joyous affair once you have got a sense of what college really is. It could be a muddy trek through our lives, whereas it tarnishes our self-esteem and challenges our pride; yet it could also be rewarding as if you are taking a walk beside a calm shore brimming with joy and continuously attaining goals.

Failure is a part of the journey; it leaves a sting of disappointment but it opens a chance to reclaim a part of ourselves and learn from our mistakes. College might not always be as successful and an “easy” journey as what we have in highschool, but the knowledge and bonds we once forged is something we own as our treasure. Here, we learn and gather knowledge that we will need in the near future. The experiences we have and the people we meet along the way teach us invaluable lessons that help us map out our journey.

Graduating from high school feels like a dream you have just woken up into. It passes so fast that you feel like you did not even catched a breath and prepare for what comes next. Armed with prayers, maybe some stationeries, a push from oneself and, near-adulting pressure, we step into a new horizon of aspirations that started from childish dreams.

Feeling loss on the path of life we have chosen is encompassed in each voyage. It will be a long journey; it will be tiring and draining. But here’s the thing - dreams, even the smallest ones, deserve a fighting chance and undying hope of achieving.

🍂 𝐃𝐚𝐰𝐧 🍂

Do not expect biodiversity in a pond
stricken by extreme drought
For one cannot fish on an empty pond.

In the commencement of time marks rebirth,
stagnancy is what we avert
Shattered glasses can't be reformed immediately,
It needs heat and some effort to configure it back.

Just like what we would always do,
a pinch of pain is necessary to foster ourselves
and to get back in the game.

Through that, we'd weather the storm,
wake up on the gloomiest of mornings,
rise through our exhausted bodies
on the most challenging of terrain
and in the darkest of nights.

Little did we know, through trials and betrayals,
we achieved a renaissance,
brought out a remarkable talent in you.

Your resilience has an outcome,
have patience, courage, and a little bit of pixie dust.

All will be well,
in time.

Today marks the 41st anniversary of the death of senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. He was known as a senator who stood against the dictatorship of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

As we commemorate his death, may we also remember his sacrifices to regain our democracy. May his legacy motivate us to persist in defending our democracy and freedom for our country.

𝐁𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨-𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦

Bulacan State University (BulSU) has proposed zero-based grading system, aiming to enhance fairness and transparency in student evaluations. In this new system, students will receive grades that accurately reflect their academic performance, with professors recording the actual grades earned rather than using transmuted scores. This approach seeks to motivate students by ensuring that every task directly contributes to their final grade, thereby minimizing grade inflation and providing a true measure of students' achievements.

Despite this new system, BulSU also assured that considerations will be made for working students and marginalized students, allowing for flexibility in project submissions when valid reasons are provided. Importantly, the university confirmed that the criteria for awarding Latin honors will remain unchanged under the new grading system.
