In 2023, I earned $243,000 as a contractor in the corporate learning design field. That's not to brag - because I was burnt out and I didn't even enjoy what I did. But I liked the money.

I thought I was smart by ensuring I spread my time over multiple contracts, that way if one ended, I was covered until I found another to fill the gap.

There were plenty of contract jobs, and I was good at what I did. I assumed I could go on like this forever, I was always shoulder tapped and barely had to try to lift a finger to get the next contract.

Then, a change of government saw me lose one of my contracts in the snap of a finger when they closed down the agency I was working at and made over 5000 people redundant in my sector. Suddenly, those easy contracts dried up, friends were unemployed for months, and I had to survive on half the income I was used to. And there were rumours that the organisation I was still working for would also be closed down.

So I decided I that since my cushy contractor income was not guaranteed, I would use the skills and knowledge to create digital products and courses.

I love that I can create digital products and sell them to anyone, anywhere in the world. I may not be able to find a contract easily these days, but I know I can find 100 people a week out of the billions in the world to buy my products.
