Earlier yesterday, Team Women Livelihood Empowerment Initiative (WOLEI), a pet project of the wife of the executive chairman of Mkpat Enin LGA, Mrs. Vivian Anieokpon Ekpo, welcomed distinguished guests, comprising of state actors on campaigns against child abuse, to Elder Joe Udobia Hall of Mkpat Enin Local Government Council, for
official marking of the 2022 World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse.
The World Day celebration which was a Mecca of sort for children's right activists was however in line with the United Nations call and declaration of November 18th as the World Day for the Prevention and Healing of Child from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence.
Speaking at the event, Wife of Mkpat Enin Council boss and founder of Women Livelihood Empowerment Initiative(WOLEI), Mrs. Vivian Ekpo, noted that the new World Day which is aimed at bringing global visibility to the trauma of child sexual abuse, remains a testament to the government's willingness to take drastic actions in a fight against child abuse up to the grassroot level.
According to her, here in Mkpat Enin, as a responsive government, we have taken right steps in drawing attention to the menace pervading our society and also articulate avenues through which we can reduce child abuse, which is by rejecting a culture of silence which gears towards protecting the offenders and expose our children to further harm.
The Child's Right advocate, however noted that according to World Health Organization (WHO) flagship report, millions of children experience sexual violence each year, hence, the need to
promote the World Day, adding that though building a better society may be both sacrosanct and tedious, but by collaborative efforts through increased awareness, outlay of government actions against Child abuse offenders etc, can help Prevent and protect our children while bringing healing to the survivors.
According to her, It is against this backdrop that her office through the NGO, Women Likelihood Empowerment Initiative (WOLEI) came to put up an advocacy talk show to help orientate, advice, inform and educate members of the society from all strata about the dangers of the societal ills of child abuse.
However, after hours of robust discussion which cuts across thematic topics such good parenting, child psychology, attention, parent/child discussion, dangers of girldchild mutilation etc, the high point of the event was the presentation of a simplified version of the book; The Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law 2022 and African Charter on the Protection of Child's Right by the State Coordinator, Child Protection Network, Mrs. Florence Bsssey, and Secretary, Ms. Edidiong Enang.
The event which was a Mecca of sort for Mkpat Enin children's Right Advocates had in attendance the secretary of Mkpat Enin Local Government Council, Princess Eno Ekanem, Deputy Leader of Mkpat Enin legislative Council, Hon.
