FIRST ANNIVERSARY MESSAGE TO THE PEOPLE OF IKONO-INI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY BY RT. HON. EMMANUEL UKPONG-UDO (PHD)

My dear brothers and Sister,

Today marks the first anniversary of my second term in office as your representative in the National Assembly and so I wish to use this medium to express my profound gratitude to you today.
Despite the intense opposition and legal battles that followed my re-election, your steadfast faith has been a beacon of strength and encouragement, guiding our collective journey towards progress and development.

Over the past 12 months, therefore, I have consciously stayed true to myself and my conscience in keeping to my promise of bringing home to Ikono and Ini people, what is due to them within my sphere of influence and capacity. Your unwavering support, trust, and belief in my vision have been the cornerstone of our shared achievements over the past year.
While it is not my place to enunciate the strides we have been able to make within these past 12 months, I will only say, in all humility, that I have attempted to make positive impacts on the lives of as many of our people in every life-enhancing sector, even beyond the ambit of my campaign promises.

Some of the significant strides we have made together include:
The construction of assembly halls and classroom blocks in several schools has provided a conducive learning environment for our children, laying a solid foundation for their future.
We have enhanced security and improved the quality of life by installing solar-powered street lights across the constituency, ensuring our streets are well-lit and safe. We have also established civic centres that serve as hubs for community activities and engagements, fostering unity and collaboration among our people.

Through various grants, we have empowered individuals, businesses, and organizations, including places of worship, enabling them to thrive and contribute to our communityโ€™s growth. In times of illness, bereavement, and celebration, we have continued to provide financial aid, showing that we stand by each other through thick and thin. We have distributed vehicles, minibuses, motorcycles, tricycles, generators, and other household items to ease the burden on needy families and enhance their quality of life. Our commitment to health is unwavering. We have continued the free healthcare programme for pregnant women and their newborn babies, ensuring they receive the care they need.

Recognizing the hardships faced by some of our families, especially in the current economic climate, we have provided palliatives to the very needy, ensuring no one is left behind. As a long-term measure, we have facilitated new employment opportunities and facilitated new appointments, opening doors for our youth and capable individuals to serve and lead. In our commitment to education, we have awarded scholarships to indigent students in secondary and tertiary institutions, paving the way for their academic and professional success.
I have lent my voice โ€“ in assent and in dissent โ€“ with those of my colleagues in legislating over issues that are of local and remote concern to all Nigerians. I have sponsored, co-sponsored and contributed to various motions and bills on critical issues that have a direct bearing on our day-to-day existence.

It has not been all smooth sailing as we have met with several challenges over the past two years. We are grateful to God almighty for the Grace to surmount them as they come. My motivation is that these challenges are for a good cause - the betterment of the Ikono-Ini people. These achievements are a testament to what we can accomplish when we work together. Your continued support and collaboration are vital as we move forward, striving to build an even brighter future for Ikono-Ini. Let me use this opportunity to specially invite you all to our Thanksgiving and Empowerment Ceremony which will come up between the 27th and 29th of June 2024.

Thank you for the privilege to serve you. Let us continue to unite, work hard, and reach new heights of development and prosperity. I remain very open to suggestions, contributions and ideas even as I solicit the cooperation of all and sundry in our collective efforts to better our lot as a people.

God bless us all,

Rt. Hon. Emmanuel E. Ukpong-udo (PhD)

AKSG TO RE-WRITE OWN TOURISM NARRATIVES
----Says 1914 Amalgation relics are in Ikot Abasi not Zungeru

As Akwa Ibom State Government gets set to re-write its own tourism narratives, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Sir Charles Udoh, has said, the 1914 Amalgation relics are in Ikot Abasi LGA of the State and not in Zungeru.

The Commissioner said the need to re-write all contentious tourism stories of the State is geared at placing Akwa Ibom State in its rightful position as the Tourism capital of Nigeria.

Already, the State government is drumming home the Tourism story that, the 1914 amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorates of Nigeria by Federick Lord Lugard was in Ikot Abasi LGA of the State and not in Zungeru, Niger State, as erroneously documented by nonโ€state actors.

Sir Charles Udoh said, this is based on the fact that, the relics of the epochal history such as the old Amalgation House, old typewriter, archaic telephone and other surviving materials are all seen in Ikot Abasi close to the sea which Lord Lugard ferried through to Akwa Ibom.

The Commissioner made this position known, Thursday, in Uyo, while welcoming the newly posted Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Grace Akpan, to his Ministry.

Sir Charles Udoh who introduced the new Permanent Secretary to all headquarters staff of the Ministry, disclosed that, another narrative that must be changed is the 1929 Women War, which took place in Ikot Abasi, but has been erroneously captured in history books over the years, as the "Aba Women Riot".

Regretting that, these false tourism stories have been widely accepted for decades now across the globe, the State Tourism Commissioner intimated that, momentum is high towards changing all contentious Tourism narratives about the State and called on all hands to be on deck, in this regard.

Udoh emphasized that, it is only Akwa Ibom people that can best tell their own story and called on all indigenes to brace up to join the government to change the tourism narratives of the State positively for posterity and generations yet unborn.

He expressed with optimism that, the new Permanent Secretary will bring her wealth of experience and expertise to bear in the attainment of the envisaged goal of changing the tourism
narratives of the state adding that, her posting to the Ministry is apt and timely.

Emphasizing that, he can attest to the passion, dedication and hardwork of Mrs. Grace Akpan, having worked with her previously as the then Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Sir Charles Udoh, called on all staff to give the new Permanent Secretary the needed cooperation, support and assistance to enable her discharge the functions of her new office creditably.

In her response, the new Permanent Secretary, Mrs Grace Akpan, expressed appreciation to the Honourable Commissioner, Sir Charles Udoh, for taking out time to welcome her to the Ministry and pledged to work assiduously with him and the entire staff to push ahead the factual and true tourism narratives of the State.

Present at the occasion were Heads of Directorates and Units of the Ministry, including: the Director of Administration, Mr. Mfon Udokang and the Director of Marketing/Logistics, Mr. Mfon Essang, among others.

๐™”๐™ค๐™ช๐™ง ๐™€๐™ญ๐™˜๐™š๐™ก๐™ก๐™š๐™ฃ๐™˜๐™ฎ,

On behalf of the good people of Ikono-Ini Federal Constituency, it is with great pleasure that I extend my heartfelt congratulations to you on the successful completion of your first year in office. Your administration's commitment to the development and welfare of our beloved state has been evident through the numerous giant strides you have taken in this short period.
Your visionary leadership has brought significant progress in education, healthcare, infrastructure, economic development and various other sectors. The people of Ikono-Ini and indeed the entire state have witnessed remarkable improvements that have positively impacted their lives. We are particularly appreciative of your efforts in promoting peace, security, and unity within the state, which are essential for sustainable development.

While celebrating your achievements, I must also address a matter of concern that has affected the development of Ikono Local Government Area. It is with a heavy heart that I apologize for the unfortunate actions of certain individuals within the political class in Ikono Local Government who, in the past, have connived to frustrate development projects in our constituency. A notable case in reference is the 21.5 km Urua Naira-Ikot Ayan-Nung Ukim road project in Ikono Local Government Area.
This crucial road project, which has been awarded twice by the two preceding administrations, has faced undue setbacks due to the unscrupulous actions of some individuals, who went behind the scenes to extort monies from the contractors, thereby stalling progress and denying our people the benefits of a completed road which would have been listed as one of the projects for your commissioning within your one (1) year in office. This betrayal of public trust is unacceptable, and I share in the disappointment and displeasure of our constituents over this matter.

Your Excellency, I humbly ask you to forgive those who have acted against the interests of our community. Despite these setbacks, I have unwavering faith in your administration's commitment to ensuring that no part of our state is left behind in the journey towards development. In line with your drive to complete abandoned roads and projects across the state, I earnestly request that you prioritize the completion of the Urua Naira road in Ikono Local Government Area. Completing this project will not only enhance economic activities and improve the quality of life for our people but also restore their faith in your governmentโ€™s dedication to their welfare.

Your intervention in this matter will be deeply appreciated and will stand as a testament to your inclusive and compassionate leadership.
Once again, congratulations on your successful first year in office. The people of Ikono-Ini Federal Constituency stand with you and support your vision for a greater Akwa Ibom State. May your tenure be marked by unprecedented achievements and may our state continue to thrive under your leadership.

Yours sincerely,

Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-udo (PhD)

Other Ministries who presented Governments plans to the media, were the Ministry of Commerce and Industries and the Ministry of Lands and Housing.

Governor Eno who acknowledged the media as one of the agents of development, called for their continual support and engagement, which he said he will be briefing them on quarterly bases.

Appraising Governor Umo Eno's milestone achievement in Infrastructural development, peaceful coherent across political divide, the Chairman of NUJ, Akwa Ibom State chapter, Mr. Amos Etuk, gleefully, thanked the Governor for his achievements under one year in office. He pleaded for a greater partnership with the government as long as he is intentionally serving the people of Akwa Ibom State.

Mr. Etuk sought the Governor's support to complete the Model Conference Hall at the NUJ Center.

BREAKING! Uyo Senatorial District Takes The Lead, Endorses Gov. Umo Eno for 2nd Term

โ€ฆApplauds Tinubu, Akpabio For Harmonious Relationship with Eno

In a significant political development, critical stakeholders in Uyo Senatorial District have taken the lead by unanimously endorsing Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State for a second term in office.

The political leaders under the aegis of the Akwa Ibom North East Consultative Forum, the apex sociopolitical organization in Uyo Senatorial District, revealed that the confidence vote in the Governor and endorsement for his mandatory seven more years as the State Chief Executive followed a thorough assessment of the governor's performance in his first year in office.

According to them, this period has been marked by significant achievements across various sectors, with notable progress in education, agriculture, road infrastructure, youth development, healthcare, security, and many other areas as enshrined in the ARISE Agenda.

Leader of the Forum, who is also the Political Leader of Uyo Senatorial District, Senator Effiong Bob, while addressing the stakeholders and Newsmen, who converged on his Uyo abode on Monday, specifically eulogized Governor Umo Eno's visionary leadership, his commitment to good governance, and his dedication to the welfare of Akwa Ibom people.

He emphasized that the Governor has earned the support of all citizens and residents, and therefore, will be re-elected, just like his predecessors - Obong Victor Attah, Chief Godswill Akpabio, and Mr. Udom Emmanuel - who all served eight unbroken years as Governors.

"In the area of road infrastructure, numerous projects such as the newly inaugurated 3.3km Idua road, the intervention work at collapsed area of Afia Nsit Road both in Eket, the just inaugurated 160m span Nto Ide Ikot Amba Bridge with 800m Approach road in Obot Akara, the newly commissioned Paul Ekpo Crescent , Emmanuel Ekon Avenue, Obot Emem Street, the commissioning of the reconstructed section of Atiku Abubakar road with walkways, drainage systems solar street lights, with flood control tunnel as well as the Afaha Ube Road, including the Akpan Andem Market in Uyo road, to mention but a few, are all eloquent testimonials to the Governorโ€™s midas touch in the area road infrastructure.

"In the area of Youth and Manpower development, the governor through the Ibom leadership and Entrepreneurial Development Centre, trained and doled out seed capital to over 800 youths and entrepreneurs as a strategic attempt of fanning the embers of enterprise development. In Healthcare delivery, the governor has already built, equipped new model healthcare centres and reconstructed existing one, inaugurated them and handed these facilities to our people for us. In Security management which is one of the pillars of his ARISE agenda, our visionary leader and Governor, apart from donating utility vehicles to security agencies in the state, has provided the needed support for these agencies to help maintain peace and security in our state. The Governor has also envisioned and launched the IBOM COMMUNITY watch to bolster the job done by existing security agencies.

"In Education, the totally reconstructed, remodeled and inaugurated Christ the King, and Ewet Primary Schools projects, the opening of the flagship Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre and constitution of the schoolโ€™s Governing Council, the training of Principals of Public Secondary Schools by UK Education officials, frequent grants to students, donation of school uniforms and sandals to students, among others are some of the very strategic investments Pastor Umo Eno has made in this sector that has earned him the applause and admiration of all Akwa Ibomites.

"Today, the songs of mourning that was becoming permanent in the mouths of retirees in Akwa Ibom on account of unsettled backlog of gratuities have been swiftly replaced with songs of thanksgiving and gratitude owing to the Governorโ€™s swift intervention in clearing the backlog of these gratuities, the former member representing Nigeria in the ECOWAS parliament highlighted.

However, based on the aforementioned achievements and more, the stakeholders, in a motion moved by Hon. Paul Ekpo, member representing Etinan/Nsit Ubium/Nsit Ibom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, and seconded by Rt. Hon. KufreAbasi Edidem, Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, passed a unanimous vote of confidence in Governor Umo Eno.

The stakeholders observed that Uyo Senatorial District has consistently demonstrated goodwill by supporting other senatorial districts in their rotational tenure as governor.

Emphasizing the spirit of reciprocity, the they asserted that it was now the turn of Uyo Senatorial District to receive support from other districts, assuring that the remaining seven years of Pastor Eno will be a period of unprecedented prosperity for Akwa Ibomites, marked by sustained transformation and development.

Meanwhile, the forum took the opportunity to applaud President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio for their exemplary display of bipartisan cooperation and harmonious relationship with Governor Umo Eno, despite belonging to a different political party.

The Stakeholders noted that this remarkable collaboration will undoubtedly yield significant development and progress for both Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria as a whole, setting a shining example of unity and productive governance.

The event was attended by a diverse range of prominent figures, including Obong T.O. Akpan, Deputy Leader of the Akwa Ibom North East Consultative Forum; Obong (Dr) Ekaette Ebong Okon, Secretary General; Hon Lawrence Udosen, Deputy State Chairman of PDP and Rt Hon KufreAbasi Edidem, Deputy Speaker of AKHA.

Others include: Obong Paul Ekpo, Member representing Etinan Federal Constituency; Barr Ime Okon, representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency, Chairman of SUBEB; Rt Hon Anietie Etuk, Hon Ibanga Brownson; Rt Hon Otobong Bob, Deputy Leader of the State House of Assembly; and other members of AKHA from the district.
