Nyesom Wike’s wife Eberechi promoted to Appeal Court as Ariwoola approves 22 new judges

Out of the 89 judges considered for promotion due to the retirement of senior jurists, only 22 were chosen for the open positions.

Eberechi Suzette Wike, who is married to FCT minister Nyesom Wike, has moved up from the Rivers High Court to the Court of Appeal.

Out of 89 judges nominated for promotion after some senior jurists retired, only 22 were chosen to take up the vacant positions.

Chief Justice of Nigeria Kayode Ariwoola endorsed Ms Wike's name and 21 others on the priority list submitted to President Tinubu for selection. Mr. Ariwoola signed the document with the code FJSC/01/2024 on April 2, 2024.

A recent roster displayed the selection of 22 judges for the Court of Appeal with the new appointees chosen from both state and federal high court judges across all six geopolitical zones.

Justices Polycarp Tema Kwahar, Ruqayat Ayoola, Eneche Eleojo, Asmara Akanbi Yusuf, Abdullahi Muhammad Liman, and Abdu Dogo were selected to represent the North-Central region.

The only person appointed from the North East is Justice Fadahu Umaru,who is from Borno state, Ishaq Mohammed Sani of Kaduna state, Zainab Bage Abubakar of Kebbi State, and Abdulaziz M. Ankara of Zamfara State are the authorized justices for the North-West region.

Recently suggested judges from the South-East region are Nnamdi Okwy Dimga Victoria from Abia, Toochukwu Nwoye from Anambra, Henry Aja-Onu Njoku from Ebonyi, Donatus Uwaezuoke Okorowo from Enugu, and Ngozika N Okaisabor from Imo.

Justices Ntong Festus Ntong of Akwa-Ibom State, Nehizena Idemudia Afolabi (Edo) and Mrs Nyesom-Wike of Rivers State were suggested for promotion in the South-South region.

Justices Lateef Babajide Lawal-Akapo of Lagos State, Abiodun Azeem Akinyemi of O State, Oyewumi Oyejoju Oyebiola of Oyo State, and Bayo Ademola Taiwo of Oyo State were selected for promotion in the South-West region.
