#24 years of flooding on a major road
Bye to flooding along Aba Road
The Aba road in the capital city of Umuahia has a peculiar problem each time it rains.
That problem is flooding.
Residents experience high flooding once there are raindrops, between the Post Office roundabout and the Federal Medical Center Junction.
This has been for close to two decades, as the drainages along this road were blocked by debris over the years...until now that disilting is ongoing on that stretch of the road...
This drainages were last cleared 24 years ago, testifies one of the personnels, disilting Aba Road in the capital city of Umuahia...

Continuous rainfall has led to severe flooding in Germany. Farmers have also been hit hard. They are desperately trying to salvage what they can from the harvest.
Dirk Reinecke from Winsen in Lower Saxony is one of them. He has been working non-stop for days helping other farmers to seal off dykes from the floods and save his own harvest with limited success. "I still have a hectare of potatoes in the ground, for example, which I haven't even been able to harvest yet, they are lost. The damage already amounts to around 6,500 euros. On top of that, there are around 5,000 euros for the soaked 20 hectares of grain that I have incurred so far," says Reinecke. "I'm 58 years old, I've never experienced a flood like this before."
The Lower Saxony Farmers' Association assumes that almost every one of the 35,000 farms is affected by the flooding of their fields or damage caused by water. Several hundred thousand hectares of arable land and grassland are said to be flooded.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz travelled to the affected areas and pledged help. The floods have dealt many German farmers a second blow in a very short space of time. Most recently, the German government had planned to abolish tax concessions for agricultural diesel, and axe tax exemptions for agricultural and forestry vehicles. However, it now wants to withdraw some planned cuts to subsidies for farmers. According to the government, the motor vehicle tax exemption for agriculture won’t be axed.
