GOVERNOR ODODO URGES UNITY AND RESILIENCE AT EASTER

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has felicitated with Christians in the state on the occasion this year's Easter celebration urging the people to remain united and resilient in the face of economic challenges.

Governor Ododo in his message to the people of the state noted that the promises of renewal and hope that is associated with Easter will usher in greater prosperity for the people of the state.

This is contained in a press statement made available to journalists in Lokoja by the governor special adviser on media, Ismail Isah

The Governor assured the people that their sacrifices and prayers for the success of the leadership of the state will ensure a brighter future for all citizens of the state.

"As we gather in families and communities across the state to celebrate Easter, let us dwell on the values of renewal, hope, and unity that define us as citizens of one state.

“Just as the resurrection of Jesus Christ symbolizes new beginnings and the triumph of light over darkness, let us embrace the opportunity to renew our commitment to building a brighter future for our beloved state as exemplified by the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR)." Governor Ododo stated.

The Governor acknowledged the impact of the prevailing economic situation in the state and noted that government has been ramping up efforts to ameliorate the situation.

Recounting his efforts so far, Governor Ododo said:

"It is evident that the rise in the prices of essential commodities and insecurity have brought new set of challenges, but through it all, our team has shown remarkable resilience and dedication to serve our people to the best of our abilities.

On the 20th of February this year, we flagged off the first quarterly distribution of food palliatives across the 239 wards of the 21 local government areas in the state.

A few days ago, we started receiving consignments from the federal government grains intervention to cushion the effect of the economic hardship being experienced by our people.

We shall soon commence the distribution of the grains throughout the state ahead of the farming season as we did with the first quarterly food palliative which will also continue in the second quarter in a few weeks from now and until we get over the shocks of the current economic downturn.”

Governor Ododo urged the people to remain resilient in the face of trials, stressing that the state is set to witness further consolidation of the progressive path to greater prosperity despite the current economic situation.

“As we navigate the challenges of this time, let us remember the power of unity in overcoming our adversity. Let us stand together as one people, irrespective of our differences, and work hand in hand towards a shared vision of progress and prosperity for the people of our dear state.

“There is need for us to embrace compassion, forgiveness, and new beginnings that underpin the celebration of Easter which is a powerful reminder of the strength of the human spirit. Hence, as Kogites, we must learn to be resilient and persevere even in the face difficulties. Together, we shall prevail." Governor Ododo assured.

The Governor therefore prayed that the Easter celebration will bring about joy and renewal for every Kogite as he encouraged the people to extend friendship and compassion to those in need in the spirit of Easter, stressing that everyone has a part to play in the collective efforts to achieve a more peaceful and prosperous Kogi State.

EASTER CELEBRATION. LET LOVE LEAD, AND FORGIVE ONE ANOTHER AS WE MARK THE DEATH AND RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST. SWS TELLS CHRISTIANS.

The International President of Standup For Women Society (SWS) Barr. Deborah Ijadele-Adetona felicitates with Christians in Nigeria on Easter.

In a statement made public by the Association's Public Relations Officer, Lib. Billie Nwogu, Deborah said that Easter is the reason why believers are called Christians.

The international President urged Christians across the country to celebrate by expressing the characteristics of Jesus Christ who loved, presented himself as the sacrificial lamb, died, buried, and resurrected for mankind's justification.

"As we mark the day, let the unconditional love, forgiveness, sacrifice, and empathy as demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ be revealed through you" She added.

Barr. Ijadele-Adetona, noted that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ taught us the price tag he placed on mankind which cannot be quantified by any most expensive diamond or gold.

She called Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for the leaders across the country saying, it is the only way to express our sincere love and support to them because to lead any group of persons is not as easy as some persons think.

Deborah encouraged Christians to practice invaluable lessons such as forgiveness, selflessness, and perseverance.

"During this economic hardship, I know this phase will give way for good time because Jesus Christ triumphed over the wicked and darkness of this world.

“As we go through this moment that is hard on the people, let us be motivated by this act of unconditional love and reach out to less privileged and venerable ones who are seen around us.

SWS international President added that if we can sincerely do to others what Jesus did on earth, then Nigeria and the world at large will be a better and united place for all.

DO NOT DENIGRATE NIGERIA IN YOUR SERMONS; PRAY FOR THE NATION INSTEAD, PRESIDENT TINUBU APPEALS TO RELIGIOUS LEADERS:

President Bola Tinubu has called on religious leaders to refrain from vilifying or denigrating the nation in their sermons.

Speaking during Ramadan Iftar with traditional rulers and religious leaders at the State House on Thursday in Abuja, the President emphasized the important role of religious leaders in shaping public opinion and fostering a sense of unity among citizens.

He urged the leaders to be more constructive in their criticism of those in elective positions.

This is contained in a statement made available to the public by the Special Adviser to the President, on Media & Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale

President Tinubu also declared that his administration is determined to turn Nigeria’s challenges into prosperity.

He reiterated that no terrorist can defeat the collective will of Nigerians, no matter how hard they try to prey on innocent citizens.

He urged traditional and religious leaders to forge a strong bond with the government to defeat terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality in the country.

''Yesterday in Abuja, I attended the burial of the 17 soldiers killed in action at Okuama, Delta State. I saw their pregnant wives and little kids.

''The love of the nation is in your hands. Pray for our country. Educate our children. The sermons we preach to the members of our churches and mosques are important.

''Do not condemn your own nation. As a Yoruba man and as our fathers will say, ‘no matter how slippery the bottom of your child is, you must leave the beads there.’

''Leave the beads there. This is your country; do not condemn it in sermons, do not abuse the nation. Leadership is meant for changes.

''Yes, this leader is bad, fine. Wait until the next election to change him, but do not condemn your country. Do not curse Nigeria. This is a beautiful land.

The President, who acknowledged the birthday wishes and goodwill extended to him on the occasion, reminded the leaders that his birthday on March 29, 2024, coincided with Good Friday.

''I have earned the honour of having my birthday fall on Good Friday, and I pray that on this Maundy Thursday, you all shall return to your homes safely. May God guide and keep you and your families in good health, and lift your spirits,'' the President prayed.

Different speakers at the dinner expressed gratitude for the opportunity to come together in the spirit of Ramadan to share a meal with the President and renew the bonds of friendship that unite the nation.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima emphasized the pivotal roles of religious and traditional rulers in promoting peace and unity, urging them to continue to ‘‘build bridges that transcend ethnic and religious divides.’’

The Vice-President expressed delight that the nation’s economy is on a rebound, noting the strengthening of the naira against the dollar.

''The President means well for the nation, and he has continued to redefine the meaning and concept of modern leadership.

''For many years, fuel subsidy was an albatross. The President took a bold decision from day one, and he hit the ground running. Now the economy is turning the corner," the Vice-President said.

Speaking on behalf of the Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, assured the President of the unwavering support of traditional rulers, and commended the government's efforts to address the hike in food prices and the security challenges.

''You are not alone, Mr. President. The prices of food items and goods are gradually coming down. You are doing your best on security, and we cannot allow you to do it alone. We will join hands to support your vision to the betterment of our nation,'' the Ooni said.

Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, Emir of Zazzau, speaking on behalf of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), highlighted the significance of Ramadan as a period of reflection, empathy, and unity.

On the security situation in the country, the Emir of Zazzau, who represented the Sultan of Sokoto and President General, NSCIA, expressed optimism that the country will return to peace and stability.

''I am happy to see representatives of Muslim and Christian communities in this room. I pray God Almighty blesses the President for him to do more to take the country to the Promised Land,'' the Emir prayed.

Apostle Samson Fatokun, General Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), noted that the Ramadan dinner with religious and traditional leaders, coincided with Maundy Thursday, the Thursday before Easter, observed in commemoration of Jesus Christ's institution of the Eucharist during the Last Supper.

The General Secretary, who delivered the address of CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, commended President Tinubu for fostering a harmonious relationship between the State and the Church.

''We are encouraged that your administration has shown great determination in tackling the challenges of kidnapping and banditry and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this dastardly act.

''We shall continue to show our support to your administration so that you can execute your noble intention for the nation,'' CAN General Secretary said.

KOGI POLITICS: SDP/APC ALLEGED AFFIDAVIT FORGERY: DRAMA, AS SDP WITNESS CONTRADICTS SELF BEFORE TRIBUNAL

The testimony of a witness of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) at the Election Petition Tribunal on the Kogi governorship election went awry on Thursday as the witness’ statement before the Tribunal contradicted the documents submitted.

The petitioners had delved away from BVAS after their star witness claimed he was not in Kogi State during the said election, and alleged that the All Progressives Congress candidate, now the Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, forged his age declaration affidavit.

The witness, one Dan Musa Williams from the FCT High Court, in Abuja, who had said the document did not emanate from the Court, upon cross-examination, could not substantiate his claims.

When asked whether he checked the record of the registry to ascertain that it was a forged document, he said he just looked at the date, being a Saturday, and concluded that it could not have been from them.

It was, however, found that the “declaration of age” affidavit was sworn in Okene, Kogi State, and not in FCT, but the witness claimed that a lawyer forwarded the one he was talking about to him.

Confusion, however, set in when the witness claimed that he also concluded that the affidavit submitted by the APC candidate was fake because it did not have the name and picture of the deponent on it.

At this point, the attention of the SDP witness was drawn to the fact that the affidavit with INEC, which he also annexed, had both the picture of the deponent and name, and that it was sworn in Okene and not FCT.

The contradictions between what the witness said in court and the documents he (the same witness) presented to the court, seemed to have damaged his testimony beyond repair, as he could not give further defence after the discrepancies were pointed out.

The sitting was adjourned to March 30, 2024, for continuation of the hearing.

Pius Akubo, SAN, represented the petitioners, while Kanu Agabi SAN, JB Daudu SAN, and DC Denwigwe SAN represented the Respondents.

WE MUST TREAT KIDNAPPERS EQUALLY AS TERRORISTS SAYS, NIGERIA'S PRESIDENT, TINUBU.

In a press release issued by the State House, President Bola Tinubu has firmly denounced the scourge of kidnapping in Nigeria, advocating for the treatment of kidnappers as terrorists. The President made this assertion during a Ramadan dinner with members of the Federal judiciary, emphasizing the need to confront and eradicate the cowardly acts of kidnapping that have plagued the nation.

President Tinubu declared, ''We must treat kidnappers as terrorists. They are cowardly. They have been degraded. They look for soft targets. They go to schools kidnap children and cause disaffection. We must treat them equally as terrorists in order to get rid of them, and I promise you we will get rid of them.''

The President's remarks were made in the presence of esteemed judicial officers, including Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, and former CJNs, Justice Mahmud Mohammed and Justice Walter Onnoghen. The gathering also witnessed discussions on the welfare and working conditions of judicial officers, with President Tinubu reaffirming his commitment to implementing necessary reforms to enhance their well-being.

Expressing gratitude to the judiciary for their dedicated service, President Tinubu acknowledged their pivotal role in upholding the integrity of the judicial system. He pledged continued support and collaboration to steer Nigeria towards a brighter future.

In response, Chief Justice Ariwoola commended President Tinubu for his leadership and dedication to judicial reforms, offering prayers for the success of his administration. Similarly, Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, lauded the President's efforts in addressing the stagnant state of judges' salaries and emoluments, expressing appreciation for his decisive action.

The press release, issued by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), highlights President Tinubu's unwavering commitment to combatting crime and advancing the welfare of judicial officers in Nigeria.
