Soldier damages Ogun couple car for cautioning him against reckless driving

A couple arriving from the US and heading to Ota, Ogun State had a brawl on the road with a soldier.

Someone must have to pay the price for any change that we seek to see. Just like Eedris Abdulkareem paid a price for something that Nigerian music artistes enjoy today. Nineteen years ago, Eedris Abdulkareem paid the price for the respect and glory Nigerian music artistes enjoy today, at the detriment of his own career which he sacrificed on the alter of his demand for fairness and respect for Nigerian artistes.

In the early 2000s, Eedris was the best, undisputed rapper and biggest new generation music artiste in Nigeria. He was at some point a bigger name than even Tuface. Psquare were still upcoming then. People like Tony Tetuila and Daddy Showkey were on the limelight. And Eedris' only rap threat and challenger in Nigeria was Ruggedman. They both dominated. But Eedris seemed to have upper hand.

But Eedris' career hit the rock the day he had the courage to challenge the unfair treatment & disrespect that Nigerian hiphop artistes were suffering in the hands of show promoters and multinational companies in Nigeria who underrated and underrewarded Nigerian artistes at that time.

How It All Happened:

Eedris Abdulkareem became the first African Rapper to make international news for his clash with 50 Cent in Nigeria in 2004.

50 Cent wanted the airline seat that Eedris was sitting on, saying it was his. Eedris refused, then security removed him (Eedris) from the seat by force. Eedris didn't take that.

Eedris came back with men. The flight was halted.

The problem was caused by the organizers of the event that booked 1st class seats for 50 Cent and his crew but booked economy for the Nigerian musicians. They were also kept waiting onboard for almost 2 hours before 50 Cent showed up. Mind you, it was a musical show that 50 Cent was invited from the US to perform in Nigeria. Eedris Abdulkareem, being the biggest rap artist in Nigeria and an "A List" music artists in Nigeria and Africa at that time was also invited to perform in the music event.

After that altercation on the flight, before 50 Cent left Nigeria, he threatened Eedris not to visit America. However, they later settled years after and became friends. Eedris later apologised to 50Cents in 2007 at the Kora Awards. And they mended the fence. To be honest, 50 Cent was not to blame but the organises who decided to treat Nigerian artistes as if less human than their foreign counterparts.

Even though 50Cent & Eedris reconciled, the big brands and multinational companies refused to let go. They never forgave that action of Eedris, till this day. Immediately after the news of Eedris' fight with 50 Cent went viral, all the big brands and multinational companies operating in Nigeria that usually sign artistes and enter endorsement deals with them CANCELED Eedris Abdulkareem - for challenging the status-quo and demanding equal respect and treatment of Nigerian artistes and their foreign counterparts, by Nigerian based brands. They stopped booking Eedris for shows, they stopped inviting him for musical events, they stopped giving him endorsement deals.

To further make matter worse for himself, Eedris (just like Fals is doing with his music today) decided to start fighting against bad government in Nigeria. This further created more enemies for Eedris, particularly from the political class.

In 2004, Eedris Abdulkareem released a conscious song to pass a message to the president, a song titled Nigeria Jaga Jaga, which means Nigeria is disorganised.

Nigeria's then President Obasanjo criticised him for releasing the song.

It was banned from radio. But that didn't stop Eedris. He criticised the government with his song again andagain, even as recently as in 2012 when he (Eedris) dropped a diss track.

Eedris’ action was apparently born out of the poor manner in which local artists were treated; foreign stars were invited to perform in Nigeria. After this incident, there were improvements, and local artistes/stars started getting co-headline status alongside invited foreign stars after that airplane seat fight/protest of Eedris. But Eedris Abdul Kareem paid the ultimate price as big brands blacklisted him.

Till date, Eedris is still paying for that activism. He paid for it with his own career so that the careers of future Nigerian artistes could live.

Eedris Abdulkareem's "Nigeria Jaga Jaga" has remained timeless, evergreen, a sad reality of Nigeria till this day. Yes, till this very day!

Create new app for sensible people, actor Okon tells Zuckerberg

Nollywood actor, Ime Bishop Umoh popularly known as Okon of Lagos, has penned down a message to C.E.O Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg to create another social media app for sensible people.

The actor made this known on his Instagram page on Monday.

Okon also noted that Zuckerberg should also conduct an aptitude, comprehension tests for users to enable them comment on posts.

Okon stated, “Oga mark, without any discriminatory intent abeg create another app in this your app for people who have sense or you start to conduct aptitude tests, where admission into this your app will be on the condition of at least a pass.

"As for participation in the comments section, it should be strictly for those who have scored at least a pass in the aptitude tests and comprehension tests.”

Spokesperson for Northern Elders Forum, Hakeem Baba Ahmed has finally addressed the issues rising in Nigeria as a result of the alleged leaked Audio Conversation between Peter Obi and Bishop Oyedepo.



According to him, he defended Peter Obi saying that he did not say anything strange or different from what politicians usually do to solicite votes.
This event was reported on the social media by Nigeria Newsdesk broadcasting platform, they made this known in a statement they released on their Twitter page on Wednesday, 5th of March 2023.

According to them, they noted that The spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, on Wednesday Made it clear that Peter Obi in the alleged leaked audio only appealed for support, as many Nigerian politicians are known to beg for support from religious leaders during elections.



In his weekly column, The elder statesman noted that it will be amusing, but for its tragic commentary on the desperation of politicians, to see Nigerians’ reaction over a leaked audio conversation between LP’s Obi and a famous Bishop in which the former was begging for the Church’s support.
He asked a question saying, which Nigerian politician has not begged for support from religious leaders, and who among the big ones has not spent huge amounts to get men of God swing elections in his favour.
Through this medium, Hakeem Baba Ahmed defends Peter Obi over the leaked conversation saying that it is something that is pertinent to Politicians in Nigeria.
He made it clear that there is no crime in what Peter Obi has done and it doesn't warrant accusations of treason.

Court Remands Influencer Blessing CEO For Cyber-bullying, Libel

The Lagos State Federal High Court has remanded famous self-acclaimed relationship expert, Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, for alleged cyber-bullying.

According to Daily Post on Friday, Blessing CEO was arraigned on six charges of alleged cyber-bullying, libel, and for exhibiting uncensored movies.

Also, the self-acclaimed relationship expert was accused of using her Instagram page to injure the reputation of one Folashade Samuels and late Bimbo Ogbonna by exposing them to hatred, contempt, and ridicule.

Justice Yelim Bogoro, in a court sitting on Friday, March 31, remanded Blessing CEO in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services, NCoS, till May 30 for a hearing of her bail application.

Blessing CEO was reportedly arrested on Thursday morning over her involvement in celebrity auto dealer Ikechukwu Ogbonna, known as IVD, and his late wife, Bimbo Ogbonna’s case.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed to The PUNCH that Blessing was not arrested by the Lagos police but by the Force CID in Abuja.

Abia Vigilante Kills 27-Year-Old Over Missing Company’s Phone

A yet-to-be-identified official of the Abia State Vigilante group has shot and killed a 27-year-old staff member of De Choice Eatery, Izuchukwu Mbakwe, in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

According to reports on Monday, the deceased was shot at close range on his lap on Sunday, resulting in his death.

Mbakwe, a native of Umuosu Okaiuga Nkwoegwu in Umuahia North Local Government, was said to have arrived for his normal duties when the Internal Auditor summoned Vigilante Security Guards and demanded his arrest over the disappearance of a company-owned "Nokia Torch."

Overzealous guards were accused of stripping Mbakwe, beating him to a coma, and shooting him at close range with a Pump Action Rifle, which injured his Femoral Artery.

He was rushed to FMC Umuahia for treatment, where he died just as he was about to be referred to a specialist hospital.
