Governors ready to implement new minimum wage – Gov Sule

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has assured that governors are not opposed to the implementation of the new minimum wage for public workers, dismissing claims that governors are not cooperating with the federal government on the issue.

Addressing journalists after meeting with Vice-President Kashim Shettima at the State House in Abuja, Governor Sule discussed the security situation in his state, stating Nasarawa’s readiness for investment and agriculture.

Sule said that Nasarawa has been paying the current minimum wage of N30,000 since 2019 and has also implemented promotions, gratuities, and other benefits for workers

FULL LIST: CBN PUBLISHES LIST OF LICENSED DEPOSIT MONEY BANKS

The Central Bank of Nigeria has released a comprehensive list of licensed Deposit Money Banks operating within the country.

The list, which was made public on the CBN’s official website on Tuesday, provides insights into the banking landscape in Nigeria.

Banks with international authorisation include Access Bank Limited, Fidelity Bank Plc, First City Monument Bank Limited, First Bank Nigeria Limited, Guaranty Trust Bank Limited, United Bank of Africa Plc, and Zenith Bank Plc.

Commercial banks with national authorisation include Citibank Nigeria Limited, Ecobank Nigeria Limited, Heritage Bank Plc, Globus Bank Limited, Keystone Bank Limited, Polaris Bank Limited, Stanbic IBTC Bank Limited, Standard Chartered Bank Limited, Sterling Bank Limited, Titan Trust Bank Limited, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, Unity Bank Plc, Wema Bank Plc, Premium Trust Bank Limited and Optimus Bank Limited.

Commercial banks with regional licenses are Providus Bank Limited, Parallex Bank Limited, Suntrust Bank Nigeria Limited, and Signature Bank Limited.

Players in the non-interest banking sector with national authorisation include Jaiz Bank Plc, Taj Bank Limited, Lotus Bank Limited, and Alternative Bank Limited.

In the merchant banking category, the apex banks listed, are Coronation Merchant Bank Limited, FBN Merchant Bank Limited, FSDH Merchant Bank Limited, Greenwich Merchant Bank Limited, Nova Merchant Bank Limited, and Rand Merchant Bank Limited.

The financial holding companies listed were Access Holdings Plc, FBN Holdings Plc, FCMB Group Plc, FSDH Holding Company Limited, Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc, Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc, and Sterling Financial Holdings Limited.

The Mauritius Commercial Bank Representative Office (Nigeria) Limited was listed as the sole representative office.

The Presidency has announced that President Bola Tinubu and his aides will return to Nigeria from Europe today.

Function News desk gathered that the President travelled for a meeting with the Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, over two weeks ago, from where he took a trip to Saudi Arabia to attend a special World Economic Forum, WEF.

He subsequently travelled to Europe after the summit

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who announced the development in a post on his X handle yesterday, said: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with his aides, will return to Nigeria tomorrow (today) from Europe.”

On April 22, Tinubu left Abuja, the country’s capital, for the Kingdom of The Netherlands on an official visit.

Ajuri Ngelale, presidential spokesperson, said the president was visiting The Netherlands at the invitation of Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

After the engagements in The Netherlands, Tinubu proceeded to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia to attend a special World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting between April 28 and 29.

The president was expected back in the country after the forum in Saudi Arabia, but he did not return, which fueled speculations about his whereabouts.

Some reports said the president travelled to London from Saudi Arabia for a private visit before heading to France, a European country.

Report reaching us says Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is doubtful for the 2023 AFCON semi-final match against South Africa.

Nigeria will face the Bafana Bafana on Wednesday and the team will fly to the venue tonight by 10 pm.

According to a statement from the Super Eagles media, Osimhen has an abdominal discomfort that needs monitoring.

The Napoli striker will stay back in Abdijan for close watch by the team medical.

Abidjan has been the base for the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

Students have been charge to use their certificate wisely and to emulate what they were taught in class.

Doctor Donald Ikyumeh, the lead consultant for Rainbow broadcasting Academy made the declaration while presenting certificate to students after a one month broadcasting training at Rainbow broadcasting Academy in Lafia.

Dr. Ikyumeh said, the organization was established to identify talents and harness them for future broadcasting quality manpower.

He further congratulated all participants calling on them to practice what they have learnt during the training also to hold their certificate and demonstrate it in their skills.

Speaking shortly after the presentation of certificate, one of the participants Mr. Jeffery Ahile thanked the lead Consultant for giving them the knowledge and opportunity to learn more about broadcasting.

He also used the medium to encourage his co-participant to use their certificate judiciously.The event was climax with presentation of Certificate to seventeen participants and refreshment.

The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, nationwide strike recorded mixed compliance across the states, yesterday. While some states were shut down with banks, public schools, courts and others shut down, some states recorded partial compliance and a few did not comply.
The directives of the two labour bodies were carried out in Lagos, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Kebbi, and Edo among others.
However, workers shunned the industrial action in Enugu and Abuja, with Labour leaders saying they would ensure strike in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, today.

Lobi Stars consolidated their hold on the league table after defeating Sporting Lagos 1-0 at the Lafia Township Stadium.

Remo Stars did their title hopes a world of good as they punched Gombe silly following a 4-0 triumph in Ikenne.

Former Shooting Stars striker Sikiru Alimi scored a brace, while Togolese ace Franck Mawuena and Aniekeme Okon contributed one apiece to condemn the visitors to their fifth loss of the campaign.

Enyimba barked like a toothless dog at the Sani Abacha Stadium, where Abba Adam’s second-half strike was enough to hand Kano Pillars a narrow 1-0 win.

Bendel Insurance proved to be a difficult customer to unravel for Niger Tornadoes as both teams settled for a goalless draw in Kaduna.

Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina United were the better team as they claimed a 1-0 victory over visiting Rivers United.

Shooting Stars were moments away from registering a memorable away victory in Ilorin, but Alao Mohammed scored in the 88th minute for Kwara United to cancel out Malomo Ayodeji’s first-half opener as the two teams played out a 1-1 draw.

Abia Warriors’ butt turned sour after receiving a 3-1 lashing from Plateau United at the Jos International Stadium.
