My wife Olivia was in the kitchen with Bisi our new neighbor's wife making breakfast when our daughter Unique started crying from the bedroom.

Is that a baby? Shola asked me as we were still cleaning the room.

Is that a baby? Bisi asked my wife in the kitchen.

Yes? I replied Shola.
Yes? My wife replied Bisi.

You have a baby? That's so cute. Please go bring the baby let me carry. Bisi said excited.

Why are you excited? You will have to chill. Olivia told Bisi.

Immediately Shola left me in the living room and rushed to the kitchen where they ladies are.

Friend you have a baby; why didn't you guys tell us? Shola asked my wife. I had to quickly follow him to the kitchen.

You guys have a baby? Like this is a whole new experience. Let's go on a vacation. Shola said.

I second this. There's this new spot in town. Let's go explore there. Bisi said. Babe I'm talking about a vacation. Like real vacation. Not just a spot to spend few days, or a date. Shola said.

Babe are you trying to call me dumb? Bisi asked Shola provoked. No babe; I didn't say that shola replied.

My wife and I were just staring at our new neighbor in silence as the fought.

You call me dumb in the presence of our new friends. Bisi said. I'm so sorry babe. I'm the dumb one. Shola said.

All of a sudden, Bisi's mood changed. You are handsomely dumb. Bisi said smiling as she touched Shola's chin in a romantic way.

We fight like this all the time. Bisi added.

I think you should leave now. I finally said to our new neighbor.

Just then Unique let out another loud cry from the bedroom.

Bisi and Shola started smiling. What's funny? I asked them really getting angry now.

Your baby don't want us to go. Didn't you just hear the baby cry when you asked us to leave. Bisi said to us as they smiled.

Olivia please go check on the Unique. I said to my wife.

You call your wife by her name? Shola asked me as my wife went to check on our baby. Yes. I replied. That's not sexy. Bisi said smacking her tongue. My baby here can never call me by my first name. Bisi said.

And she Inturns calls you by your first name? Shola asked me. Yes there's no big deal there. I mean my name is my name.

We have a lot to teach this our new friends. Shola said to his wife Bisi.

Just then Olivia came out with our child. They Baby is beautiful. We will definitely be her God parents. Bisi said as she stretch out her hands to carry baby Unique.

"Who are these people; Are they even human?" This was the question that was going through my mind

The day of the coronation drew near for Queen Olamma to be crowned King of Amankwo village.

Afunwa was in the palace looking for answers. He wanted to find out who killed his father.

Ever since the first day he saw his late father in the garden, he had always prayed that his father appeared to him again and say something, something that he will help him find answers.

Obiageli knew that her son was a smart boy, but she found it hard to believe that the late King appeared to Afunwa after his death.

Even at that no one in the palace knew that the King had ones appeared to Afunwa.

The coronation happened to be one of the biggest and speak of coronation in the village, almost half the women of the village were happy about this new ruling. At least a woman should rule for the first time.

As the day drew near, Strange things began happening in the palace. First it was the Queen's daughter.

She suffered from a severe convulsion which has never happened to her before.

She slept that night as usual but, it was as if an attack was cast on her. She began forming foams from her mouth.

She was just lucky that a maiden was just right beside her when it started. The attention of the Queen was called.

And immediately medical attention was given to the princess.

Then an attack was made in the palace. Small ants filled the whole rooms in the palace, the ants were uncountable, they were in their billions. The chief priest was the one that chased the ants back to their holes using spiritual incantations. This has never happened before. It signified bad omen according to traditions in Amankwo village.

The last attack was a mighty wind which was too heavy and blew only in the Palace, the whirlwind was about to take the Queen last daughter. But she was lucky that the Queen was there right on time to save her.

Words of this three incidents had already gone outside the palace. The villagers heard about these strange experiences in the palace.

Soon murmuring started going round in the village. "I think the chiefs shouldn't crown Queen Olamma King". The kingdom will be in great danger if olamma is crowned King. The villagers murmured.

The chiefs had to come to the palace the following morning to tell the Queen their final decision.

What is happening in the palace is no longer ordinary. I think you should step down as King. The onuwu told the Queen as they gathered.

But instead Queen Olamma let out a loud laugh. He has come to you too; he has succeeded in buying you all out. Queen Olamma said.

What do you mean buy us all out? The onuwu asked. "You think I don't know who did this"? The Queen asked the chiefs.

Who exactly did this? The chiefs asked. Guards arrest him!!!. Queen Olamma ordered his guards. And immediately two able bodied guards arrested Chief Amah.

Chief Amah was the chief who was supposed to be crowned King until Afunwa was of age to take his throne. But the Queen insisted that she be crowned the King.

You sent those things to this palace to threaten me; You don't know that I'm born ready for you. The Queen said to chief Amah's face as her guards took her away.

I did not do this!!! Chief Amah yelled in anger as they guards took him to the cell.

No one; I repeat No one will stop me from been King!!. If anyone tries to stop me, that person will end up like Chief Amah. Have I made myself clear? The Queen asked the chiefs who had their head bow.

The nodded to Yes like an agama lizard. The coronation still holds tomorrow. Queen Olamma said and let out an evil smile before leaving the chiefs.

There was fear in the eyes of the chiefs.

My new neighbors came to my house very early in the morning the next day.

It was on a Saturday morning. I and my my wife were still cleaning up our house when they came.

They left a knock on our door. And I quickly went to check who it was. When I opened the door. It was our new neighbor.

Hey neighbor. Bisi and Shola said uniformly immediately I opened the door.

Hey. I said surprised. Wait are you surprised to see us? Shola asked me. No, but I didn't know you guys will come this early. I said.

We said we were having breakfast with you guys. We informed you yesterday. Shola said.

But this is just 7:00am. I said. When do you guys have your breakfast? Shola asked me.

I don't know, 10am. I said. We are sorry we didn't want to be late for our first breakfast with our new neighbor. Bisi said.

Just then my wife Olivia came out of the kitchen with a mob.

You guys again. Olivia said and sighed. We again. Bisi replied.

You guys are cleaning. Shola said. Babe please do them the honors of helping my dear friend's wife to clean. Shola told Bisi. Of course babe. Bisi replied Shola and kissed him before going to help Olivia.

How is life in this neighborhood like? Shola asked me as I was alone with him. Life has been how life is supposed to be. I answered. How's life supposed to be? Shola asked me.

Normal, peaceful, private of course until you came. I said. Normal is not fun. Shola told me.

Like I have an idea. Why not let the women start cooking why we the men clean up. Shola suggested.

I was just staring at shola. I didn't even know what to say or do at that moment.

Babe; Shola called the wife.

Bisi immediately came out to the parlor. She was really excited. Babe why don't you and your friend go into the kitchen to make breakfast why Myself and my guy here will finish up cleaning the house. Shola said to the wife.

Of course. I was even telling her that you don't joke with your food, that we should hurry up and go cook.

Bisi hurried back and went and took Olivia to the kitchen so that they can make breakfast.

Let's finish cleaning before this women are done cooking. Shola said.

I just stared at Shola. What kind of person is this? I said to myself. Do you know about the word privacy? I don't even know you bro. You are literally forcing yourself into our life. I finally said to Shola who was already mobbing the floor.

You want us to go? Shola asked me with all humility. Yes bro go. My wife and I need some privacy!! I said.

Okay. No problem we will go. Shola said.

Babe!!! Shola called his wife. His wife came out of the kitchen with a spoon she use for cooking.

This young man wants us to leave his house. Shola said. Really? Bisi asked. Yes. What did you do babe? She asked again.

I did nothing wrong. He said he needed some privacy. Shola said.

Then give him some privacy naughty boy. Bisi said smiling.

Stay at the other end and clean, why he stays here and clean. We need the house sparkling clean. Breakfast will soon be ready. Bisi said before leaving to the kitchen.

I guess we are stuck up together bro. Shola said and smiled at me.

Few seconds later we heard the two ladies arguing in the kitchen.

When we went to the kitchen. What they were arguing about got me gasp.

Bisi didn't want onoins in the food they were making because Shola didn't like onions. And my wife Olivia at the other hand wanted onions because I like onions in my food.

The argument continued; "its fun seeing them argue, they will make best of friends". Shola said smiling at me.

I was speechless at that moment.

News of Queen Olamma's intention of been the next King of Amankwo village spread round the village very fast like a wind.

The villagers heard about the Queen intentions. There was murmuring among the villagers.

A good number of villagers disagreed with the Queen been crowned King. Just a few wanted her to be King.

After all Afunwa is still but a boy. Its only right the Queen step in for him until he is of age. Adaora said to her friend on their way coming back from the stream.

They chiefs were supposed to crown the next King before the late King burial.

The enemies of the village had already got the news about the dismiss of great Okenwa.

It was time for them to strick the village since they are now in disagreement.

The onuwu was in a state of confusion. Since the chiefs want Chief Amah to be King but the Queen was opposing with few cabinets.

They onuwu and the chiefs had to consult the chief priest in the presence of the Queen.

Ezemmuo what do you suggest we do now? The onuwu asked the chief priest as the chief priest arrived the palace.

The chief priest sat down in the middle of the chiefs and started his incantations with his cowries before he finally spoke up.

"Chiefs and Queen of Amankwo village; the gods never lie, as we all know Afunwa is the rightful heir to the throne since the dismiss of the late King ". But at the same time he is not yet of age to rule the kingdom. The chief priest said and paused.

We know about that one. Chief okonkwo said. Ezemmuo please stop beating around the bush and go straight to the point, tell us what we need to know. Chief Obiora said.

It is only right that the person to ascend the throne until Afunwa is of age is of royalty. The chief priest said.

The chiefs were shocked by the sudden statement of the chief priest. Queen olamma had smile written all over her face.

Ezemmuo wait o, what you are trying to say is it that Queen Olamma will rule the men in the village? Chief Obiora asked the chief priest. The look from the chief priest answered it all.

Abomination. I will not sit here and watch a woman rule over me. I will not be a chief under the ruling of a woman. It has never been done. This is an abomination. Chief Okonkwo said and angrily left.

She will be crowned King the next Eke market day. That's what the gods said. The Chief priest said before leaving also.

Queen Olamma was smiling, this got chief Amah more angry. Queen Olamma knew that she planned all this with the chief priest. It was just a matter of time. Chief Amah had his suspicions.

Afunwa was in his late father's garden that evening when he saw his father. Father! Afunwa called. Immediately he went close, his father disappeared.

Father!!!! Afunwa screamed before running to his mother's chamber.

Mma I saw my father. Afunwa told the mother. You saw your father? Obiageli asked Afunwa. Yes mother. Afunwa replied. But your father is late. Obiageli said.

I know what I saw mma. I saw the tears and fire in his eyes. Something is not right; father didn't die an ordinary death. Afunwa said.

What do you mean? Obiageli asked Afunwa. Someone killed him. Afunwa replied.

I was with my wife Olivia in the living room when this new couples packed into our compound.

The noise from the truck that brought their things made our daughter to wake up.

Ayo who's that? Olivia asked me. I had to quickly looked out from our window to see who it was.

It was a couple who just moved in, in the night. I saw as the truck driver off-loaded their things from the back of the truck.

Unique was already crying and Olivia was trying to calm her down.

I watched them as they finished packing their things inside the apartment they rented.

After the were done packing their things. They man and his wife went into their apartment. That was when I closed my curtain.

"Do you think they will be friendly"? My wife asked me as she was feeding our daughter.

They look kind of friendly. I said. Me I don't want a woman that will come and bring wahala here o. My wife said.

I was still discussing with my wife when we heard a knock on our door.

"Who's that"? I asked. Open this door if you don't want me to break it down. A masculine voice said.

Who are you? I asked again. Open this door now!! The voice said again. And don't even try calling the police if not you won't like what I will do to you. The masculine voice said.

At this point I was scared. Ayochidi do something. My wife said to me. Take Unique and go hide in the bedroom. I quietly said.

Open this door or I will shoot. The voice said again. Please don't shot. I'm opening the door. I said as I walked towards the door and opened it.

Immediately I opened the door. It was our new neighbor and his wife.

I'm Shola and this is my wife Bisi. We are your new neighbors. I saw you watching us from the window as we offloaded our things. Shola said.

Really? I asked him. He nodded to yes.

You scared my wife and I. I would have called the police. I said. But you didn't. Shola said and he let out a loud laugh with his wife.

Ayochidi who's that? Olivia asked me from her place of hiding. Its our new neighbor. I replied.

New neighbor? Olivia asked as she came out of her hiding.

Hope we didn't scare you guys. I mean this was fun to us. We will be coming over tomorrow to your place to have breakfast so that we can know ourselves better. Shola said and his wife seconded.

See you tomorrow. Bisi said and they left to their apartment.

Olivia and I stared in shock at them as they left.

Who are this people? Olivia asked me. I don't know but I know one thing for sure they are crazy.

There goes our door open again. Please Shola doesn't like Onions and please no meat in tomorrow's breakfast. We are vegetarians. See you tomorrow. Bisi who just opened the door and came to us said. She pecked my wife on the cheek and left.

Why did you stare at them from the window? Olivia asked me.

I stood shocked in disbelief.

There was a very big disagreement between the onuwu and other chiefs in the King palace.

Afunwa is still but a boy. What will our enemies think if they hear that a little boy is ruling us. We can not allow that. We all accept that he is the King son, the heir to the throne, but we must allow another person to rule until he is of age to become King. Chief Okoro said.

I have been quiet, I didn't want to say anything until this moment. Afunwa is a great child but matters of the throne is not a childs play, I think we should allow Chief Amah to rule atleast until Afunwa is of age. Chief Obiora said.

The whole chiefs were quiet, it was as if they suddenly agreed with this ruling.

Since we all want Chief Amah to be King, why don't we get started with the rituals of crowing him king. Chief Obiora said.

I really didn't see this coming. But I promise to do my best to make sure that I take this Village to the next level. Chief Amah said and smiled.

The whole Chiefs clapped for him. Non of the Chief objected this suggestion.

When will the crowning ceremony hold? Chief Okoro asked the chief priest.

The next Eke market day. The chief priest answered.

Just when they thought everything has been settled, Queen Olamma came into the chambers where the chiefs were holding their meeting.

Over my dead body will I allow an outsider to rule in my late husband's throne. The Queen said immediately she entered the council of chiefs.

The chiefs were surprised that the Queen had the balls to come and confront them when they were discussing.

I overheard all that you men of this village said. We are not just men of this village. Chief Okoro corrected her. We are the chief and king maker of this village. He added.

My husbands body has not even got cold yet and you men are discussing to take over his throne, But it will never happen not when I'm alive. Queen Olamma said.

You know that Afunwa is still a boy, he is just twelve years old, we can't allow him to rule this kingdom. The enemies will take advantage of that to start a war. A strong King matters alot in a community. Chief Okoro said.

I know about that, but non of you men will rule in my husband throne. Queen Olamma said.

Do you have a better suggestion? The onuwu asked the Queen.

Chief Amah was just looking at the Queen.

I Queen Olamma will rule as the King of Amankwo village until Afunwa becomes of age to take over the throne. Queen Olamma said.

The chiefs were left in shock. The surprise and shock was written all over their faces.

Abomination!, Alu, Abomination, A woman can never rule us. It has never been done before. Chief Okoro said.

There's always a first time for everything. Queen Olamma said and smiled.

Chief Amah looked at the Queen and let out a wicked smile. He knew that the war for the throne was just beginning and he has promised himself to do everything in his power to rule as the King of Amankwo village and no one was stopping him.

My first encounter with Cynthia was in my SSS3. Cynthia had just registered newly in our school to write her waec and neco exams.

The very first day she arrived our class; I said within me she was the one for me.

My heart beat continuously because of her presence.

I saw the whole class paused when Cynthia entered the class.

Cynthia had gone to go seat with one of the girls in the class.

They exchanged pleasantries. I sat at the corner of the class as my gaze was on Cynthia. I wanted the perfect opportunity to go introduce myself.

I was pretending to be doing something on my desk but my gaze was on Cynthia.

Just then Ebuka walked in and introduced himself to Cynthia.

That was what I wanted to do; I wanted to be the first male to introduce myself to Cynthia.

I know, I was only seventeen years but I knew what I wanted.

Just as fate would have it; Our principal walked into the classroom and told Cynthia to stand up. Then he told Cynthia to meet me so that I can keep her up to date with the class curriculum.

That became my major chance. Hi Cynthia I'm Ayochidi. I finally introduced myself. Incase you need help with any subject as the principal said earlier. I will gladly help you. I said smiling.

Thank you. Ayo; she said. Ayochidi. I corrected her. Ayochidi. She said.

I saw the surprise on her face. My grandma is Yoruba. So she gave me the name. Just a mixture. I said to Cynthia. Oooh I see. So do you hear Yoruba? She asked me.

Few things. A little. I replied. Okay. She said.

That was how our friendship started. I help Cynthia with few home works. I always put her through in the subject she found difficult.

I started actually feeling that she was totally into me. The way we played together. Always together in school studying. I I thought she was beginning to love me the way I loved her.

I finally made up my mind one-day to ask her to be my girlfriend. Cynthia will you be my girlfriend. I asked her one day as we were alone in the library studying.

I saw surprise written all over her face. Ayochidi we are just friends. And besides we are still young to discuss about relationships. Don't worry, I promise you when we get to 25years, that's 8years from now. Ask me again. And I will accept. That was the reply I got from Cynthia.

This made me feel a kind of relieve, eight years from now. I will finally get the chance to date the first lady I ever loved.

Until one-day in school when news broke that Ebuka was dating Cynthia. And this occured during our inter-house sport in school.

Ebuka was a good footballer. He used his football skills in winning the heart of the woman I love. I felt betrayed.

When I asked Cynthia to know if the rumor is true. Her reply was that "it just happened". That broke me down in a thousand ways possible.

I thought she said she was too young to date; but how come she accepted to date Ebuka? What did I do wrong? What did I not do right? I was intelligent? I was going to help her with her homeworks.

At that moment I started restraining myself from Cynthia and everything that involves her.

So you got jealous that the lady you love choosed another boy over you; you killed her. The officer said.

I always see her in school. But I put a limit to seeing her. I don't know what happened to Cynthia. I honestly don't know who killed Cynthia, I did not kill Cynthia. I said in the interrogation room the school provided for the police officers.

If you did not kill Cynthia, then who did? The officer asked me.

King Okenwa laid unconscious in his chamber.

He was unable to speak, move or eat. The chief priest tried all he could to bring the king back to normal. But all his efforts were useless.

The chiefs gathered round the King as the deliberated on their next line of action.

The villagers must not know that our king is sick. The onuwu told his other chiefs.

What the onuwu is saying is the truth. The villagers finding out that the King is sick means our enemies also finding out.

The sands and winds has ear. Until our King is whole again, no other person outside this palace must know that our King is sick. Mazi Okoro said.

The chiefs unitedly agreed to this law.

Afunwa was really sad that his father who he just got to meet is now sick.

Obiageli comforted him, assuring him that his father will be alright.

Someone did this to father. Prince Afunwa told the mother. The mother never thought of it that way.

She had a rethink. Its true. Some thing is not right somewhere. We have to find out who shot the spiritual arrow on the King. Afunwa told the mother

Finding who the person is, is one of the ways to finding a solution to the King sudden illness. Obiageli said.

Can you ask the chief priest? Afunwa asked his mother.

It's not in our power to ask the chief priest Afunwa. But I will talk to the Queen to ask the Chief priest. Obiageli said.

She won't accept. She doesn't like you mama. Afunwa said. Obiageli looked at her son surprised.

Afunwa was just 12years old but he has the wisdom of a 50years old man.

We shouldn't conclude yet. Obiageli said. Yes the Queen doesn't like me. But making sure the King gets well is something that all of us in this palace want. Obiageli said.

Mama do you think that everyone in this palace want's the King to get well? Afunwa asked his mother.

How do you mean? Obiageli asked her son.

What if the person that shot the spiritual arrow on the King is in this palace? Afunwa asked the mother.

Be careful what you say Afunwa, let me just go talk to the Queen to talk to the chief priest. Obiageli said.

Obiageli went to meet Queen Olamma in her chambers but as she went to her chambers she met the Queen coming out of the King's chamber crying bitterly.

What's wrong? Is the King alright? Obiageli asked the Queen.

But instead she cried more. Talk to me. Obiageli told the Queen. The King is dead. My King is dead. Queen Olamma said and couldn't stop shading tears.

Obiageli out of disbelief rushed into the King's chambers and found the King lifeless body there.

The news of the King dismiss had already gotten to the chiefs before sunset that day and the chief were summoned to the palace.

We must crown Afunwa as the new King before words of the King dismiss gets to the villagers. The onuwu said.

But some of the chiefs disapproved, stating that Afunwa was just a boy.

"Afunwa is just 12years old, he is still a child, we can't crown him the King of Amankwo village". Some of the chiefs said.

These became the top problem of the people of Amankwo.

The story just began!!!

Chapter 5.

Afunwa's friends came to visit him in the Palace the next day.

It was no longer news that the great King Okenwa has miraculously united with his son during the iwaji festival.

Some of the villagers who didn't attend the festival were anxious to come to the palace and meet the Prince.

Arinze and Ekene was just at the entrance of the palace when a guard was showing Prince Afunwa round the Palace.

The King and his Chiefs were having an urgent meeting, if not the King would have been the one to show Afunwa round the palace himself.

No one was more happier than the King reuniting with the son.

"Those are my friends, please allow them in". Afunwa said immediately he sighted his friends.

My Prince but the King gave orders not to allow anyone come in or out of the palace aside his chiefs. The guard said.

My father is just overprotective, my friends don't bite, please allow them in. Afunwa said.

After a brief silence, the guard decided to let Arinze and Ekene in the palace.

'Afunwa'!. Arinze said immediately he came close to his friend. So we are truly not dreaming. You are the prince of this village. Arinze said.

Arinze won't your parents be worried that you are here all alone? Afunwa said to his friends.

All alone? Who said we are here all alone? Ekene asked Afunwa. When does staying with the Prince of this kingdom now all alone? Arinze asked Afunwa.

I know but you Arinze that I know will never tell your parents that you are out here before coming and it will end up getting your mother worried. Afunwa said.

'Afunwa Afunwa! The royal Prince'. Arinze hailed me.

I walked with my friends round the palace. I must admit it was a relief seeing a usual face ones more in the Palace. Everything seem different here. Afunwa said. I can only imagine. Arinze said.

I got to play with my friends. I was still with my friends when one of the Princess, Princess Akunne which was the second child of Queen Olamma came.

She was closely same age as us. She was about 12years also.

Princess good morning. I greeted the princess and my friends greeted her also.

Father is looking for you. She said before leaving. Boys I will have to go meet my father now. It seemed like he is done with his chiefs. I told my friends.

Should we go or wait for you? Ekene asked me. My house is your house. Come on, let me go introduce you to my father. I told my friends

They followed me to the King chamber. Igwe!! I greeted my father as I reached his chamber. My friends followed.

Father; this is Arinze and Ekene, they have been my friends from day one. I told my father. My father just smiled.

Who are your parents? My father asked them. They started discussing about their parents with my father but then one of the maiden called to my attention that my mother wanted to see me. I excused myself to go see my mother.

Few minutes when I went to see my mother; I overheard my friends screaming.

"Igwe!! Igwe!!! Arinze and Ekene screamed. This scream made the whole royal family rushed out to the King Chamber in anxiousness.
