Please read this story. Shaykh Ahmad al-Shaami was the Hanbali M***i of Douma (a town on the outskirts of Damascus). Shaykh 'Abd al-Razzaq said he never saw a man with greater adab than him.
One day, a thief entered the Shaykh's house and began to steal his wealth so the Shaykh emotionally said, 'Please don't take that! That is an amanah (trust) of someone else and I have to return it to them soon. I don't want to break their hearts. Take my wealth instead!" And he handed him his own wealth. Look at that iman! The thief took the wealth and assumed that the Shaykh didn't know him. The next morning, the Shaykh knocked on the door of this thief with tears in his eyes and with wealth in his hands. When the thief answered, the Shaykh handed him the wealth and said, "Forgive me on the Day of judgment! You were a man inflicted with poverty so you were forced to steal from me. If I was a true believer I would never have allowed you to reach such desperation."
When the thief heard these words of indescribable mercy - he was gobsmacked. He instantly broke down in tears, embraced the Shaykh, made tawba, and became from the righteous. These people are the inheritors of Rasūlullāh ﷺ. These people are the embodiments of Tasawwuf. These people are the lights amongst the darkness and diamonds among stones.
