We are delighted to announce the Winners of the 3rd Edition of our Ramadan Writing Contest tagged the Whispering Crescent Writing Contests in 3 categories of Poetry, Essay and Fiction.

We received over 90 entries in total. While there are impressive and fantastic entries, a vast majority are below average of the grading scores.

We regret therefore to inform that due to the quality of the entries in the Fiction Category, no winner can be declared and as such, a workshop will be organised for those who submitted their works. The timing and structure of the workshop will be communicated shortly. The prize funds will be invested into a post-workshop competition for those who attend the workshop.

CALL FOR SUBMISSION
The 3rd Edition of Fitrah Review Ramadān Writing Contest

FitrahReview is pleased to announce the 3rd Edition of her writing contests which is divided into three categories as follows:

~Whispering Crescent Poetry Prize ~Whispering Crescent Short Story Prize
~Whispering Crescent Essay Prize

We invite the Muslim populace to submit to any of the three categories. That is, an entrant can only submit to only one category. Previous First Prize winners can no longer enter into the category they won.

PRIZE
•Cash Prize Of #20,000, N10,000 and N5000 shall be awarded to the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Prize Winners respectively in each category
•Certificate Of Excellence will be issued to the Winners and Runner-ups
•The Winners, The Runner-ups And The Honourable Mention Prize shall be published in an Anthology

THEME
The theme is free. However, it is expected to be Qur’an & Hadith based. As such, entrants are to write an essay, a flash fiction or a poem around a Qur’anic verse or a Hadith of their choice which they find inspiring.

GUIDELINES

1. Entry should be in a Microsoft Word document, any font style and size of your choice (size 12 preferred).

2. Do not include your name or other personal information in the document. Thus, write your Full Name, a short Bio, the Hadith or Qur’an verse that inspired your writing and source of the Hadith/Qur’an verse in the body of the mail only.

3. The length of your essay & flash fiction should be above 300 words but not more than 1000 words. Maximum of 30 lines of poem (title inclusive) and not less than 14 lines.

4. Send your entry via email to [email protected]. Your mail subject should read the category you are entering for.

DEADLINE:
Entry closes by Ramadan 22nd, 1442AH equivalent to May 4th, 2021.

Winners will in shaa Allah be announced on the day of Eid on our website & social media pages.

First we want to congratulate the entire muslim ummah for the successful completion of this year Ramadan, we pray Allah in his infinite mercy accept it from us and include it in the list of our good deeds. May he lets us witness many more Ramadan on earth. Aameen.
the Fitrah Review team sincerely apologize for the delay in the announcement of the winning entries of the second edition of our annual ramadan writing contest which ought to have been announced on the day of Eid (Shawwal 1st, 1441/ May 24, 2020), that is last Sunday.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

•Submissions will be read between
March 1 – April 30
and
August 1 – September 30 ONLY.

•We accept unpublished works that are not under consideration elsewhere. All copyrights revert to the author upon publication.

•the QuillS publishes in June and December. Submissions outside or prior to the reading time will be deleted unread, as well as works that do not follow general guidelines.

GENERAL GUIDELINES:

•Poems should not be more than 25 lines, excluding the title.

•Fiction & Nonfiction should be between 450 – 1000 words. Haibun and Haiku Sequence (renga) are accepted under this category as nonfiction.

•Essays, Book Reviews & Interviews should be between 750 – 1500 words. (Interviews should contain the Bio of the interviewer and the interviewed. Also Review should contain the Bio of the Reviewer and author(s) of the reviewed works.

•Visual Arts should not be more than three works. Visual Arts include but not limited to Drawing, painting, sketches and photography. The Editors may select from the artworks the Book Cover Art for the particular Issue. Haiga are accepted only if the author of the haiku is also the owner of the artworks.

•No entrant should submit more than 1 work for each category (except virtual art where maximum of three works is accepted)

•In the subject of your mail, enter the category with the journal name and Issue. E.g "Nonfiction, Issue 6, The Quills"

PS:
—One person can enter for all the categories but should be submitted separately.

–Submit your works with a short Bio of not more than 70 words, including your nationality and email address.

–All works should be in the body of the mail, no attachment. However, where there's a special format for your work that warrants such, kindly state it in the cover letter. If not, any works with attachment and no reason provided will be deleted outrightly.

FitrahReview is pleased to announce her maiden writing contest tagged "Ramadan Writing Contest."

The contest is in three categories of poetry, essay and flash fiction. You are free to make entry into the three categories. However, an entrant can only get a prize for one category but will get honorary mention in the subsequent categories that he merit.

A CASH PRIZE OF #5,000 SHALL BE AWARDED TO THE WINNER IN EACH CATEGORY. SEND IN YOUR WORK AND STAND THE CHANCE TO WIN.

THEME
The theme is free however is expected to be Qur'an & Hadith based. As such, entrants are to write an essay, flash fiction or poem around a Qur'anic verse or a Hadith of their choice which they find inspiring.

The format of your writing is your choice but you can use the following ideas to help you get started.

1. Write an essay about a specific ways you use your favorite Quranic verse or Hadith in your life, mention how it has helped you.

2. Write a short story about a character who came to learn how to use a specific Qur'anic verse or Hadith in his/her life.

3. Take your divine pen and write a soul-lifting poem about following a specific Qur'anic verse or Hadith in your life.

GUIDELINES
