Anambra School Emerges Winner in National Girls in ICT competition with Groundbreaking VR technology!
St. John Vianney Science College, Igbariam, used their virtual reality project to conquer the National Girls in ICT Competition 2024, claiming the national championship title yesterday! The National Girls in ICT Competition, organized by the Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, is a technology innovation competition for all girls in secondary schools across Nigeria.
Their innovative project, M-Tag VR, allows users to explore iconic landmarks like Zuma Rock and learn about fascinating cultural aspects of Nigerian tribes. The girls, Immaculate Ebube Ikegwuonu, Camilla Anyadike, and Nweke-Nonso Oluchi, mentored by their coach, John Onuigbo, triumphed over teams from all 36 states.
The girls' talent shone brightly throughout the competition. They started at the state level where they aced the Anambra state competition, then proceeded to conquer the Southeastern regional championship, defeating teams from Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, and Enugu, to make it to the national finals. Their exceptional project and skills impressed judges throughout, culminating in a thrilling national victory against strong contenders from the six geopolitical zones of the country. Rivers and Lagos states secured the second and third-place positions, respectively.

Veteran Nollywood actor, Zulu Adigwe, reportedly passes on
Veteran actor Zulu Adiwge has gone to be with the Lord.
According to movie producer, Stanley Nwoko, in an Instagram post, the actor passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.
“I regret to announce the passing on a veteran actor. Late Mr Zulu Adibe (sic)..What caused his death yet to be reviewed. Rest in peace Good actor,” he wrote.
However, unconfirmed reports say the actor had been battling with an undisclosed illness.

500 level ABSU student arrested for k*lling a rival cult member begs for pardon
Emmanuel Victor, who is a 500 level Optometry student of Abia State University, has admitted that he was the one in the viral video where another final year student Emmanuel Uche, was killed in March, 2024.
The suspect said he is a Vikings cu.lt member and he committed the crime because Uche was an Aiye cult member.
He pleaded for a second chance, stating that this was his first time killing somebody.

Kîlling-Spree In Awka As Gunmen Shoot Young Man On Friday
At least one person was kïlled on Friday in Awka, Anambra State capital.
This brings to about 15 the number of persons that have been kïlled in the city since Easter Sunday, just two weeks ago.
About six persons were kïlled on Easter Sunday, while the following Sunday, three people were kïlled.
Also, there have been pockets of kíllings in the city within the week, including the félling of one Nwanayoeze, who was said to be a popular youth among indigenes of the city. He was riddléd with búllets close to his house in Awka on Wednesday.
On Thursday, a former president general of Amansea community in the Awka North Local Government Area, Chief Cajetan Nwokike was kïlled.
Friday’s kílling occurred at Unizik Junction, where a man identified as Christian was gunned down. He is said to be an indigene of Enugu State.
His assàilants were said to have arrived in a yellow tricycle, which is the approved colour for all operators in Awka.
“The man is a manager of Anambra Executive Transport Company. He was shot three times, and when the gunmen were sure he was dèad, they entered their Keke and drove away very slowly, showing that they were not afraid of anything,” a source said.
Though the incessant kíllings in Awka have been attributed to rivalry among cult groups, many who know Christian said he was not a cultist.
When contacted, the police spokesperson in Anambra State, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said he was not aware of the kílling.
He lamented that many family members of slàin people do not report to the police for investigation, but prefer to bury their dèceased relatives.

Unknown gunmen on Thursday morning murderêd the former President-General of Amansea Development Union in Anambra State, Chief Cajetan Nwokike.
His death comes less than two months after President-General of Umuoji, Chief Silas Onyima, was shot dêad in his bedroom by assassins.
Nwokike’s dêath was disclosed by the National President of the Association of Past Presidents-General of Anambra State, Omife I, in a statement forwarded to journalists on Friday.
“The Association of Past Presidents-General of Anambra State (APPAS) has received the shocking news of the brutal dêath of one of her members, Chief Cajetan Nwokike, former PG Amansea, who was allegedly shot dêad by unknown gunmen yesterday morning in his house at Amansea.
“The report said that late Cajetan Nwokike was performing his traditional morning prayer of breaking of kola nut that fateful morning when two young men entered his house and shōt him point blank on the head, kílling him instantly.
“APPAS is gràvely worried about Chief Nwokike’s dêath which is one too many and we are appealing to Governor Soludo and the security agents to leave no stone unturned to unmask the perpetrators of this serial kïllings.
We condole with his family and assure them that his kíllers will not go unpunished. May his soul rest in peace,” the statement read.

BREAKING: Court Sentences Bobrisky To Six Months Imprisonment Without Option Of Fine
Controversial cross-dresser Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye popularly known as Bobrisky has been sentenced to six months imprisonment without any option fine for abusing the Nigeria currency – naira.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court, Lagos, in her sentence, said the judgment will serve as a deterrent to others who are fond of abusing and mutilating the naira.

Anambra State Command Recovers Three More Bodies of Boat Accident Victims
Marine Police of Anambra State Command has recovered bodies of the three remaining victims of the unfortunate boat accident involving a movie cast.
Two of the bodies were recovered yesterday 11th April, 2024 while the last was washed in by the tide this morning.
All the bodies have been deposited in hospital mortuary in Asaba while the President of the Guild of Actors and Actresses has been notified of the recovery.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye has urged all water commuters to be safety conscious and avoid behaviour that may jeorpardise their safety and that of others while on transit on water.
He promised expedited investigation into the sad accident that claimed lives of five actors. He also commended the Command’s Marine Unit and its Commander for dedication to duty.

Just In: Ogbonnaya Onu dies at 71
Former governor of Abia state, Ogbonnaya Onu is dead.
Family sources informed newsmen that Onu died at a hospital in Abuja this morning.
The American trained scientist, teacher and politician was 71 years old.
Ogbonnaya Onu was a lecturer at University of Port Harcourt before he made a foray into National Politics during the scuttled transition to civilian rule of former president Ibrahim Babangida from 1991 to 1993.
He was elected governor in 1992 and served till the late Sani Abacha overthrew Ernest Shonekan's administration in 1994.
Onu remained in politics and made a few attempts to run for President.
He resigned as minister of science and technology in the Buhari administration to contest the presidential primaries in 2022.

Breaking: CKC Onitsha Becomes World champion in WAC competition
History has again been made after Christ the King College (CKC) Onitsha emerged victorious at the prestigious World Affairs Challenge (WAC) 2024.
CKC secured the coveted global first-place position, marking the first time Nigeria has clinched gold in the competition’s 32-year history.
The World Affairs Challenge, organized by WorldDenver, empowers high school students to develop innovative solutions for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, students tackled critical issues like climate change, poverty, and inequality.
The students, Ekufu Ernest, Obuna Somtochukwu, Umeodinka Emmanuel, Ejike Ekene, and Ubah Jason, led by their coach, Mr. John Onuigbo, impressed the judges with their impactful project, “Wise Tales by Primus,” a captivating series of digital comic stories addressing environmental degradation, climate change, and substance abuse. “Wise Tales by Primus” aims to raise awareness and inspire positive change among young people.
CKC Onitsha’s journey started at the African Regional Competition, where they were named the highest-scoring Nigerian team and the top five in Africa.
The team proceeded to pitch in the virtual global finals, and following a rigorous evaluation, the team’s in-depth understanding and passionate delivery during the final Q&A session left a lasting impression.

Actor Junior Pope Odonwodo has died.
According to reports, four actors including Junior Pope fell into Anam River in Anambra State, on their way to a movie location and their bodies have been recovered.
The actor had earlier shared a video of himself and others on a boat, on their way to the movie location.
Captioning the video, he wrote: “See me lamenting….The risk we take to entertain you; crossing river 9ja yesterday with no life jacket…. Na wahooooo Who does that ??”
I’m so sad. can’t believe this. Big Sam where are you? am shaking,” Yvonne Jegede wrote.
The 39-year-old was married to Jennifer Awele.
They have three children together.

Anambra Joint Security Force Extend Manhunt for Unknown Gunmen to Ogbaru Forest, Recovers 9 Home Made Bombs, 4 Walkie Talkie.
Anambra State Joint Security Force on Friday, 5th April 2024, extended its manhunt for criminals attacking security formations in the State to Ogbaru forest.
Locations around Amiyi and Ochuche were combed for the insurgents. Troops of the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Navy lent considerable firepower to the operation which completely routed the hoodlums from their hideouts in the forest.
Several camps were found and destroyed during the operation which lasted several hours.
Nine Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) recovered from the camps were safely defused by Police Bomb Squad.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye commended the Military for its steadfastness in supporting the fight against criminality.
He also thanked the DSS, NSCDC, NDLEA, NIS and various Vigilante Groups across the State for the wonderful synergy that is yielding fantastic results in keeping Anambra State Safe.
The Commissioner of Police also warned cultists running amok in the State Capital to be aware that their days are numbered. He warned that secutity will not fold its hands and watch them destabilize the State in the name of cult rivalry leading to fatalities.
