In line with my earlier humble request for friends and well-wishers to spread the love today by visiting hospitals, schools and care homes to mark my 62nd birthday, I visited Plateau State to commiserate with the Governor and the people over the recent widespread unfortunate killings in the State, which are unacceptable. I visited Mangu Local Govt. Area, where over 300 people, including women and children, have been killed. I commiserated and condoled with them over the several attacks on them and the killings of their loved ones.

I was at Bungha Pilot School in Mangu, which is the biggest IDP Camp in the State, occupied by about 60 communities. I made token support of N5 million with some bags of rice and also reassured them of our love and care. I equally explained to them that we are all in this together and that as long as we have some Nigerians living in IDP Camps, every Nigerian is living in IDP Camp.

I appreciated the Governor of Plateau State, HE Barr , for his warm reception and kind comments. I thanked him, especially for the great efforts he has made so far concerning the killings and terror attacks in the State, and for ensuring that the IDPs are well cared for. I commiserated with him over the killings in the State and encouraged him to continue to deliver good governance to the people.

I also thanked the traditional ruler Mishkaham Mwaghavul, HRH John Putmang Hirse, for the hospitality, and assured the Mangu people that in the New Nigeria, their security and that of every Nigerian will be prioritized.

As usual, today I attended the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal at the Court of Appeal in Abuja. Today's proceedings went well and at the end, the case was adjourned until Monday the 5th of June, 2023. I'm continually gratified by the efforts of our legal team.

Straight from the court's sitting, I attended the burial of my late dear friend, Mr Emeka Ofamata at Nnewi, Anambra State. I wish the Ofamata Family the strength and fortitude to bear the painful loss, and pray that the Almighty God who called him home, at this time, will grant him eternal rest.

I congratulate the Nigerian students from Queen of the Rosary College, Onitsha, who clinched second place in the just concluded World Affairs Challenge, which is an international competition for high school students, aimed at developing and implementing their own S.M.A.R.T. solutions for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The Nigerian students reportedly carried out innovation in Queens’ Lyfe bags – a 100 per cent plantable biodegradable bag made from rice straws, banana fibres, and corn husks and infused with tomato, pepper and watermelon seeds such that the bags can grow into plants when disposed of.

It is for millions of smart youths like these in our country that we remain resolute in building a New Nigeria centred on innovation and productivity, where people's skills will match their opportunities in life. The young students have brought honour to the nation through their smart idea which is very beneficial to the environment.

I celebrate them, their teachers, and millions of youths across the nation who are involved in different productive enterprises. Together we will build the New Nigeria of our dreams.

I'm Aware Of Evil Designs Against Me - Peter Obi

The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has said that he is aware of the evil plans against him and his supporters.

Obi revealed this in a statement shared on his page on Monday, shortly after the swearing-in of Bola Tinubu as the country's president.

The former governor of Anambra State went on to say that part of the negative plan was to reduce his party fan base by confusing them.

He said, "I am aware of some evil designs being hatched against me and my supporters in the coming months.

"Efforts will be made to taint my image. Campaigns of calumny are being perfected to defame my character and diminish my hard-earned integrity.

"These schemes will aim at degrading our support base and confusing the public. But, no evil campaign will alter the substance of my character; nor diminish my patriotic commitment to a better Nigeria."

29/05/2023

For all Nigerians, this is a time for deep reflection. It is also a time to re-examine our assumptions, even as we reaffirm our hopes. Let us calmly review our aspirations, in order to recalibrate our expectations and pin down the causes of our missed opportunities and disappointments.

We stand at that critical moment in time when, as a people, we must collectively come to grips with the reality of our injured destiny as well as the reasons for that injury. It is for us to reassess our plight as a young democracy and identify clear pathways to a better and greater future for us all. As we await the verdict of the election tribunal, I urge all Nigerians to use this opportunity to renew their commitment to the Nigerian ideal. That ideal remains noble and worth every sacrifice we can make.

Nigeria remains our only patrimony and it is a patrimony we must protect, rather than violate. We have no other nation but this, so let us remain committed to rescuing and rebuilding it.

The judiciary is part of the democratic enterprise and a critical governance tool for determining the propriety of the decisions and actions of every citizen and every institution of state. To that extent, and for that reason, I urge everyone to treat it with the respect and dignity it deserves.

We expect that the Nigerian judiciary will use the election cases now before it to reaffirm its independence and integrity. It has to do so, for all our sakes and for itself.

Nigerians must, therefore, remain peaceful and law abiding. No matter the depth of anyone's reservations about what is going on in the polity today, no matter the real and imagined provocations, and no matter the disagreement out there, we should remember that this will not last forever.

I remain committed, and untiring, in my determination to work with like-minded fellow Nigerians to end the curse of missed opportunities and squandered hope that has become our lot here.

I will never shrink from that original commitment, because I firmly believe that we must change from the present politics of criminality, and corruption, in order to make a new Nigeria possible.

I call on fellow Nigerians, especially the youths to remain steadfast, calm, patient, and peaceful. Our journey may be long and difficult but it is worth it in every way. Victory is assured.

We have to work together to move our beautiful country from corruption and criminality to a center of productivity rather than aimless consumption.

I am aware of some evil designs being hatched against me and my supporters in the coming months. Efforts will be made to taint my image. Campaigns of calumny are being perfected to defame my character and diminish my hard-earned integrity.

These schemes will aim at degrading our support base and confusing the public. But, no evil campaign will alter the substance of my character; nor diminish my patriotic commitment to a better Nigeria.

It is about the future of our youths. it is about ending the Years of Locust.

In all of this, I thank Nigerians, our great party (LP) and the media. The latter, as the Fourth Estate of the realm, has remained a trusted ally.

This Estate must continue to guide our people on the immense promise of a future in a new Nigeria.

God bless Nigeria and protect the troops keeping us safe in this season of vaulting insecurity.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Yesterday, I honoured the invitation to the presentation of Most Rev. Bishop Mathhew Hassan Kukah's new book: "Witness to Reconciliation - My Personal Journey Towards Reconciliation," in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Among the eclectic special guests were President Olusegun Obasanjo, retired Justice Kumai Akaahs of the Supreme Court, and so many others. Gov. Nyesom Wike was the Host. I ended up not speaking at the event due to a protocol mix up, which required me to speak after President Obasanjo had spoken, which I naturally declined. However, my compelling reason for attending the event was in part to acknowledge and further underline the overwhelming imperative of reconciliation processes in our country, Nigeria, today.

As I have always stressed, what is happening in the South-South, and indeed all over Nigeria, requires adequate attention and reconciliation in order to engender sustainable peace and progress.

The environment blight which Ogoni people have experienced and the unfulfilled promises, which by extension pertains to the larger South-South and indeed to the entire nation, continue to be a source of deep-seated mistrust, agitations, civil unrest and tribal division; all of which require urgent attention and reconciliation.

I thank Bishop Kukah for the painstaking efforts of putting together his experiences in this literary piece. I also urge the government to do more in the area of reconciliation, pacific settlement of disputes and promotion of national unity and development.
